Doug Bishop has served as Jasper County Treasurer for the past 14 years. Doug has also served as chair of the Jasper County Veterans Alliance and served on the National Veterans and Military Services Committee. Doug also serves as the chair for JEDCO. Doug and his wife DeAnn have served as coleaders of the Baxter Area Youth group for the past 12 years. They have been married 27 years and have three grown children. In 2009 Doug was honored with the opportunity to escort Junior Ekins and Lawrence Halter to Washington DC on an Honor Flight. They both served in the South pacific in WWII, Lawrence in the Army and Junior in the Marine Corps. They survived seven beach landings between the two of them. Lawrence is now 99 and Junior is 94. They have now, ten years after the Honor Flight, graciously agreed to escort me as we make our way down the parade route on the 4th of July.
