Newton is a progressive community with a population of 15,250 located east of the Des Moines metro on Interstate 80 and is the home of the Iowa Speedway. The Newton Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency consisting of 27 sworn and 5 non-sworn employees and includes a school resource officer, narcotics detective, general crimes detective, K9 unit, SWAT team and motorcycle unit.
