Our Community T
he quaint city of Geneva is the county seat of Kane County, Illinois. With its magnetic charm, this growing community has caught the eye of many residents and visitors who appreciate its rich past and its strong and promising future. Geneva is home to approximately 22,000 residents and welcomes thousands of visitors annually who take pleasure in its distinctive hometown and warm atmosphere. With its location along the scenic Fox River, Geneva benefits from a beautiful backdrop for its pleasing shopping district, year-round festivals, and a myriad of recreational opportunities.
Geneva’s storied past begins with the arrival of its first settler, Daniel Shaw Haight, in the early 1830s. After building a cabin along the Fox River, he chose to relocate and sold his land to James and Charity Herrington in 1835. By 1836, the town was selected as the site of the new county seat. Early names of the settlement included “Big Spring”, “Herrington’s Ford” and “La Fox.” Ultimately, the town was christened “Geneva” – a name that was adopted from a city in upstate New York. The suggestion most likely came from Dr. Charles Volney Dyer, a Chicago resident and noted abolotionist who had recently traveled to New York. James Herrington proved to be an influential person in the establishment of Geneva. Prior to his untimely death in 1839 at the age of 41, Herrington platted the new town, served as sheriff and established the first post office, tavern, and general store. The advent of the railroad in 1853 was an important development in Geneva’s history, placing the town on a main line offering both commuter and freight rail service. Along with the railroad came a surge of Swedish immigrants who helped construct the railroad and many chose to stay in the fledgling town. Geneva was officially incorporated as a village in 1858, followed by incorporation as a city in 1887. The Geneva of today has preserved its charming historic essence, distinguished by peaceful tree-lined streets with many well-maintained homes from the mid-to-late 19th century. While this unique historical character remains intact, Geneva has experienced thoughtful development with the incorporation of superior educational and health care resources, vibrant arts and cultural offerings, and a dynamic and thriving business climate.

or more than 40 years clients have turned to State Street Jewelers to celebrate special moments, from engagements and weddings to birthdays, graduations and anniversaries.

It also offers engraving services. State Street Jewelers can assist with most repairs and restoration for pieces including watches, performed on site. Established in 1985, generations have turned to State Street Jewelers for pieces to celebrate a birthday, graduation, anniversary, promotion as well as engagement and wedding rings. or 60 years TriCity Family Services has been a support system helping provide families with counseling services, community resources, education programs and workshops to find emotional wellness.
The ongoing Single Moms support group meets online twice a month, providing a space and time for individuals to share their questions, find resources and find support.
“Mental health at every age is important to producing happy, healthy neighborhoods,” explained Kelsey Boyer, Communications Manager for TriCity Family Services.
At TriCity Family Services its incredible team provides counseling services for individuals, families, children and adults addressing a number of concerns including a new onset of anxiety, managing grief, phobias, marital discord and post-divorce conflicts. It offers FamilyBased Treatment for Eating Disorders, taking an evidence-based approach that recognizes parents and family are the best resource to help a child recover from eating disorders.
In its 2025 fiscal year, TriCity Family Services served more than 5,500 individuals as young as 4 and through adults well into their senior years. The community mental health center provided more than 43,000 hours of care, including counseling services as well as workshops and support groups. “We’re here for everyone,” Boyer said. “We really believe every person in our community deserves equitable access to quality mental health care.” TriCity Family Services provides workshops on a range of topics from parenting concerns about new behaviors in their preschooler to helping teens develop confidence and navigate challenges. Most of these emotional wellness workshops are offered at no cost, Boyer said.
Most PPO insurance, Medicaid and Medicare are accepted for counseling and therapy services, but insurance is not required. Sliding scale self-pay is made possible through generous donations, corporate sponsorships, fundraising, grants and public funding. “We’re so lucky to be in a community that supports mental health,” Boyer said. SWEDISH DAYS JUNE 23-27, 2027 It’s the most renowned event unique to Geneva and coincides with the Midsommar Festival - Swedish Days, as a nod to the community’s Swedish heritage. This inspired their familyowned business Woofbeach where they provide dog grooming, training and dog daycare options. The couple brought their business to the Fox Valley area in 2012 and it has taken off with locations in Batavia, Geneva, South Elgin, Aurora and Glen Ellyn. Each location offers dog training and dog grooming, with dog day care available in Aurora and Batavia. The Batavia location also offers dog boarding options. Grooming services include options for a bath, nail trims, paw pad service, ear and teeth cleaning too to help every pup feel fresh while cared for by professional, experienced groomers. Grooming services are available for appointment and walk-in hours. From basic obedience to working on a special canine certification, the professional dog training team at Woofbeach takes the time to work with each dog at its own pace, to develop basic and advanced dog training. The Geneva Park District manages fitness centers, community parks, pools and a miniature golf course. Sunset Community Center and the Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center feature BestLife Fitness. There is cardio and strength equipment as well as fitness classes. The SPRC also includes an indoor track.

The park district also manages Playhouse 38, a community theater program.
In the summer the Geneva Park District manages Mill Creek Pool and Sunset Pool, with opportunities for swim lessons, lap lanes and spray ground. Memberships are available at both locations as well as drop-in daily rates.
Geneva is home to public and private golf courses, providing ample space to work on one’s long game. The beautiful parks and trails are a favorite among those who love long runs, cycling and walks.
Enjoy some putt-putt at the Stone Creek Miniature Golf, a river-themed course with 18 holes located in Wheeler Park. The park district has completed upgrades that include a new washrooms and a covered patio for birthday parties. Try out the Disc Golf Course, also located in Wheeler Park.
The Kane County Cougars baseball team is based in Geneva. Along with great baseball, amazing fireworks shows and gametime fun, the organization hosts events year-round including trivia nights, concerts and more.

reparing students with knowledge, skills and personal qualities to be productive citizens remains the core mission of Geneva Community Unit School District 304. The unit district serves approximately 5,000 students from preschool through high school. There are 10 schools in District 304 which includes one high school, two middle schools, six elementary schools and one preschool. Across District 304 schools students’ test scores outpace state and national averages in all core subjects including language arts, math and science. With class sizes at an average of 21 students per class, students have a learning environment where they can thrive. Building on the strong foundation provided by Geneva 304 elementary and middle schools, all students have opportunities for success once at Geneva High School. At GHS students
can participate in a wide range of academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that allow them to pursue interests and develop skills in and outside of the classroom. As a result of this community effort, Geneva High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School from the U.S. Department of Education in 2023. anguard Gifted Academy offers a K-5 micro school where gifted students learn, explore, question and develop their social-emotional skills among their peers in the elementary school grades. Launching its 10th year of operation in fall 2026, Vanguard Gifted Academy was developed to offer gifted students a place to foster and encourage their love of learning while supporting their social emotional needs, which is as essential to their studies and growth explained Head of School Amy Trujillo. “Our students are gifted or twice exceptional. Many are both,” Trujillo explained. The school’s instructors balance the ability to engage gifted students in their learning exploration while meeting their social emotional needs. The school’s Core Knowledge curriculum is fully personalized, offering advanced lessons up to 12th grade. Enrollment is open year-round and students as young as 4 may be accepted. “We give a well-rounded approach to education without bias,” Trujillo said. Throughout the year the students participate in showcases, to share their learning experiences and to build their leadership skills in creating presentations and public speaking, Trujillo said. There are also programs to support parents through their child’s educational journey.
At Vanguard, students are encouraged to complete work and tasks during the school day, and there is no homework. Trujillo said this is to provide students with ample time to enjoy sports, music studies and other afterschool activities. For the students and teachers at Vanguard, community is a series of expanding circles, starting with students and families and expanding into the neighborhoods and cities along the Fox River and beyond. “We have a lot of connections with the community and we’re excited to have even more outreach with STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts and Math),” Trujillo said.

CITY UTILITIES
Getting settled starts with getting connected. The City of Geneva provides electric, water and wastewater services within City limits, and new residents can establish service through the City’s Finance Department. Utility bills can also be managed and paid online for added convenience.
GARBAGE & RECYCLING
Geneva’s residential garbage and recycling services are provided by Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS). On Thursday or Friday. Residents can find information about weekly trash and recycling collection, leaf and brush pickup, recycling guidelines and purchasing garbage stickers through the City’s website.
PUBLIC WORKS
Geneva’s Public Works Department helps keep the community running smoothly, overseeing streets, water, electricity, engineering and other essential services. The department also coordinates road construction, snow removal, garbage and recycling, and other services residents rely on throughout the year.

MILL CREEK RESIDENTS
If your new home is in Mill Creek, it’s important to know that the subdivision is located in Unincorporated Kane County and is not within the City of Geneva’s corporate boundaries. As a result, some services differ from those provided to City residents; for example, Mill Creek residents receive water service through the Mill Creek Reclamation District and electricity through ComEd. The City directs Mill Creek residents to Kane County’s Mill Creek SSA information for additional services.

eciding how to organize a new home after a move or getting a handle on the chaos of children’s toys and overflowing closets is precisely the moment when Michelle Frediani is ready to step in as a professional home organizer. “I help people feel better in their lives and in their space,” Frediani said. Michelle said she believes in meeting her clients where they are and with what they want to accomplish. For her organizing services she can work with clients to set up a new living space, preparing to downsize and move, or improve their home organization whether it’s in one room or throughout their home.
“I tailor to each individual,” Frediani said. “Everybody has a different story, a very different space and way of doing things.” She also offers household management services, where she comes once or twice a month to help
individuals with tasks that can range from meal planning to home repairs, resetting spaces and even maintaining a calendar and budget. Frediani has experience working with clients who have neurodivergent tendencies including OCD and ADHD. She’s comfortable working with families, even engaging children in finding ways to organize toys and clothes, making them proud of their involvement with the process and decisions. Decluttering, downsizing and organizing can create moments of anxiety, but Frediani brings a calm demeanor and approach, whether its looking at creative ways to implement storage systems or helping someone understand their attachment to objects and working through the process of deciding what to let go. And when it comes to decluttering, she aims to bring donated items to local agencies and outlets that will further support the community.
