Arrests made in ’83 murder BY KATHLEEN A. SCHULTZ kschultz@saukvalley.com 815-625-3600, ext. 5535 @KathleenSchul10
DIXON – The Lee County Sheriff’s Department arrested two Chillicothe men Tuesday in connection with a murder more than 3 decades cold – and of which another man also was accused.
They are in Lee County Jail on $1 million bond each. Simonton was not available Tuesday night to provide any more details, including what led investigators to the two men, and whether the third man involved still is charged in the death, or even still is a suspect.
Brothers Terry E. Bobell, 68, and Gordon K. Bobell, 65, are charged with first-degree murder in the 1983 death of Gary D. Dawson of Peoria, who was beaten to death and thrown into a hog lot south of Franklin Grove on Aug. 28, 1983, Sheriff John Simonton said in a news release Tuesday evening. Chillicothe is just north of Peoria.

STERLING – It’s about what’s inside, in more ways than one, for burgeoning clothing designer Apolinar Castillo. The 27-year-old loves to create garments from scratch, and his six plussized models turned heads when they walked the runway wearing Apolinar Castillo Designs at the Drake Hotel in Chicago in February 2014. But he’ll also make alterations to your prom dress – albeit somewhat reluctantly. “When you get something from the store, the factories have so much more machinery than we do,” he said Dec. 23 in the classroom at Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts in Sterling. “I’ll do it, and it’ll look nice on the outside.” FASHION CONTINUED ON A13
