KSB Community Wellness has partnered with the college to present the exhibit along with a “Survive and Thrive” program at 12:30 p.m. today. The program will feature speaker Ruth Montino, who will recount her story from diagnosis to recovery. The exhibit, in the east mall, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. ROCK FALLS – Ribbons will be cut today, and the first student groups will experience the Storybook Trail. A dedication ceremony for the first permanent Storybook Trail in Illinois will begin at 10 a.m. at the bridge near Avenue D, and at 12:30 p.m., 60 third-graders from Lincoln Elementary School in Sterling will walk the half-mile trail. The trail extends from Avenue D near Linville Crossing to McNeil Road. Organizers weren’t sure the trail could be ready until spring, but Eagle Scouts were able to set up the 32 poles that hold pages from the books. The Scouts also built birdhouses for the trail. All of the books will have nature themes, and activities related to each book will be planned. The city worked on the project with Mary Nelson, a program director with the University of Illinois Extension Service. STORYBOOK CONTINUED ON A3

Celebrate 75 at Loveland
DIXON – Loveland Community House and Museum, 513 W. Second St., will celebrate its 75th anniversary Saturday with an Open House Gala from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free, and refreshments will be served. A ceremony, with music from pianist Vitlaus von Horn and the Dixon Municipal Band, will begin at 2 p.m.

Rock and roll all day in Dixon
DIXON – The inaugural West End festival, featuring music, artisan vendors and street food from local businesses, will be held from 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday on First Street from Peoria to Highland avenues. Admission is $5 at the gate at the east end of the block. Local artist Colin Adams and bands Small Town Hymnal and 30 West will play. So, too, will Dixon native Kerry Devine and his band LAVA Rock, at 7 p.m., and Journey tribute band Inifinity: The Ultimate Rock Experience, at 9.

STERLING – The United Way of Whiteside County’s annual chili cook-off will be Saturday in the parking lot at East Fourth Street and First Avenue. There will be live music, children’s activities, hot dogs and desserts. Chili tasting costs $5 and begins at 11:30 a.m. A peace chain for the YWCA of the Sauk Valley also will be linked, and walked across the First Avenue Bridge, at 10 a.m.

Have a bazaar time in Sterling
STERLING – The Sterling Moose’s annual bazaar will be held Friday and Saturday at its lodge at 2601 E. Lincolnway. There will be a fish fry from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, along with a cakewalk at 7 p.m., and drawings afterward. A vendor and craft show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with soup and sandwiches for $5.50 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and $8 turkey or roast pork dinners from 5 to 7 p.m. There also will be prize drawings and a silent auction Saturday.

The Sauk Valley College Foundation will present its Fall Harvest Drawdown from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Riverside Lawn at the college, 173 state Route 2. Tickets are $20, and organizers say out of every 10 will be a winner. Barbecuestyle meals will be sold, and The Crystal Cork will have a cash bar. Firefly will play from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and then it will be drawdown time. You need not be present to win. Proceeds will go to the school’s students and programs.
