SERVING ROCK FALLS, STERLING AND THE SURROUNDING AREA SINCE 1854

WHITESIDE COUNTY | CAR CHASE

Deputy on leave for firing gun 3 arrested; 5 police agencies involved; 1 jailed on $500K bond BY CHRISTI WARREN cwarren@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5521

STERLING – A Whiteside County sheriff’s deputy was placed on administrative leave after firing his gun at a

car during a chase Wednesday night. Three men were arrested after the chase; a handgun was found near the suspects’ vehicle. That’s according to a news

release sent by the sheriff’s department almost 20 hours after the incident. The deputy, whose name isn’t being released, fired “after narrowly avoiding being run down,” the release said.

Passengers later told authorities that driver Andre L. Peat said, “I’m going to have to hit this guy,” the release said.

Jennifer and Adam Drinkall of Milledgeville smile as they look over the plans for a playground that will be built at Milledgeville Elementary School and dedicated in the name of their daughter, Ivy, who died last July of sudden infant death syndrome. Community donations and fundraisers will pay for the playground where Ivy’s two sisters go to school.

Elementary school playground to honor 5-month-old girl BY JERMAINE PIGEE jpigee@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5525

MILLEDGEVILLE – Adam Drinkall wishes he could watch his daughter, Ivy Faith, play with her two sisters, Lili, 8, and June, 5. “You take those things for granted,” he said, holding back tears. Ivy Faith was just 5 months old when she died last July of sudden infant

death syndrome. In her memory, the Drinkall family raised $60,000 in about a year. The money will be used to build a new playground at Milledgeville Elementary School. The playground was approved Monday by the Chadwick-Milledgeville school board. “We are grateful for their generosity and generous donation they made

in memory of their daughter,” district Superintendent Tim Schurman said. “This playground will benefit students for years to come.” It’s important to Drinkall, 34, that parents can watch their children play together on the new playground. “We want a place for kids to play and for families to enjoy one another,” he said.
