LEE COUNTY | CONVICTION COMPARISON
Rate close to that in Whiteside Both counties’ state’s attorneys coming off first year in office BY CHRISTI WARREN cwarren@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5521
DIXON – During 2013, there were 442 total felony, misdemeanor, and DUI convictions in Lee County, according to a report released from the state’s attorney office. Compared to the 1,024 felony, misdemeanor, and DUI convictions in Whiteside County during the same time period, the figure seems small, but when accounting for population differences,
the rate is around the same number. The number of convictions per 100 people in Lee County is 1.3. In Whiteside County, it’s 1.8. 2013 was the first year in office for both Lee County State’s Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller and Whiteside County State’s Attorney Trish Joyce. “It was kind of daunting, taking office with the number of serious cases that were pending, Sacco-Miller said. ROCK FALLS – Sleek, shiny speed boats will be revving up and down the Rock River this weekend, in a revival of the longdormant Rock Falls River Chase boat races. Race promoter Terry Hicks, who lives near the Rock in Rock Falls, wondered what happened to the old River Chase, last put on 7 or so years ago by various groups and individuals, and what it would take to get it going again. What it would take, it turns out, was him. Hicks, who has a full-time job with Dana Corp. and is a busy full-time “baseball dad for his two kids on top of that, decided to tackle one more project, rolling up his sleeves and chasing his River Chase dream. He contacted a racing club, and checked out available hotel rooms for its racers and their families. RIVER CHASE CONTINUED ON A2
