Will city take latest gamble? Lone grocery wants to add video gambling BY CHRISTI WARREN cwarren@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5521 @SeaWarren
MORRISON – Can, or should, a grocery have video gambling machines?
Scott Sullivan, president of Sullivan’s Foods, asked the Morrison City Council that question this week. During Monday’s meeting, he asked council members to approve a pour liquor license for Sullivan’s, which would allow video gambling machines in the grocery. Sullivan said the company
had been watching video gambling progress since it began in 2012 in Illinois, and “we’ve made a decision to try to bring forward video gaming into our stores.” “We’ve been watching how it works, and I see convenience stores and truck stops, and it requires a liquor license – you have to be able to pour alcohol
in the store,” he said. He said two Sullivan’s stores have pour licenses, but neither yet has gambling machines. “We’re continuing to move forward in all the locations,” he said. Council members were reluctant and decided to delay a decision until their next meeting
Sullivan noted the profits from video gambling being made by cities, retailers, and the state. “I think it’s something that keeps some of the money in your local area, and we’ve decided to take a crack at it,” he said. GAMBLE CONTINUED ON A4
