DIXON | CITY GOVERNMENT

How will he manage? O’Donnell, Dixon’s first city manager, comes on board Monday BY JERMAINE PIGEE jpigee@saukvalley.com 815-625-3600, ext. 5525 @JPigee84

DIXON – Don’t expect Cole O’Donnell to walk into City Hall on Monday and begin making sweeping changes to Dixon city government. “You have to evaulate what is going on,” said O’Donnell, who will start his work as the city’s first city manager next week. “To come in and make changes

means nothing is working right, and that is not the case here. I don’t want to come in and just start to make changes.” Voters last year approved changing the city’s form of government from commission to managerial. A new mayor and City Council were elected, and tasked with filling the new city manager position. Administrator David Nord filled the role in the interim, and was a finalist for city manager when the council hired O’Donnell on Nov. 2.

“I’ve already met with the staff and the elected officials in Dixon,” O’Donnell said. “The first few days will be settling in, and I’ll continue to evaluate the process and policies.” O’Donnell comes to Dixon after being city administrator in East Moline for 4 years. He also has stints in Algona, Iowa, and Renville, Minnesota, among his 21 years of experience as an administrator.

DIXON – Lee County’s first baby of 2016 must have wanted the title of New Year’s Baby. “He is the one who chose this day,” said Danielle Dudley, 25. “I thought he was

coming later on.” Dudley of Harmon and her boyfriend Steven Rutherford, 28, of Amboy, are now the parents of baby boy, Steven Rutherford Jr., the first baby born in Lee County this year. “It’s exciting,” Dudley said of the title. “This makes him even more special.”

The baby checked in at 5 pounds, 11 ounces and 18.5 inches long, born at KSB Hospital in Dixon around noon on New Year’s Day. Although the baby was born a week early, Dudley said the newborn is doing fine. “Our due date was January 8,” Dudley said as Rutherford

fed the newborn. “Today marks 39 weeks.” Dudley said her contractions began at about 5 p.m. Thursday. As the day progressed, she said the contractions got worse and they were happening closer together. SPECIAL CONTINUED ON A5
