PreviouslyIwroteanarticle concerningtheMoundBuildersinthisarea.TheMound Buildersoccupiedthisareaabout2,000 yearsago,which was1,875years beforeOregonwasfounded.

Kett’sHistoryofOgleCountymentionsOregonwasbuiltononeoftheir ancientvillages.Alocaldoctor,Dr. Chappel,mentionedalargeMonk Moundwas leveledwherethecourthousewasbuilt.

Thesecondgroupofpeoplewho occupiedIllinoiswastheNativeAmericans.In1492,Columbusmisnamed themtheIndiansthinkinghehad reachedIndia.

Whenthe whitemanfirstsettled in America,theNativeAmericanpopulationwaslessthan 12million.Noindividualownedland.Thelandwasowned orclaimedbythetribe.Eachtribe wantedalarge,unoccupiedspace arounditsvillageforhuntingandfishing.There wasnocommonlanguage.In Americatherewereabout100languages.

TheNativeAmericanslivedinsimplevillages.Their clothingwassimple,theskinsofanimals.Huntingand fishingprovidedmuchoftheirfood. Manyofourcitiesandvillagestoday markthesitesoftheirvillages.Dixon, FreeportandGalenaareexamples.

Apropositionwasonthemidterm generalelectionballotNov.8.

Accordingtounofficialresults,as of10p.m Nov.8,theproposition passedwith675“yes”votes,or56.39%; atotalof522people–or43.61%ofvoters–votedagainstthechange.

“Iamverypleaseditpassed,” MayorKenWilliamssaid. “Itmarks thewayforwardtogreaterthingsin thecity.”

Thenewformofgovernmentwill gointoeffectfollowingtheApril4, 2023, electionandafterthefirstmeetingoftheincomingOregonCityCouncil,Williamssaidinapreviousinterview.

CarlosPaezwaitedtovoteonTuesdayfortworeasons–hewantedtocast hisfirst ballotasanAmericancitizen on the ElectionDayandhewantedthe little“IVoted”sticker.

“ThisisthefirsttimeIhavevoted,” saidPaez,70,ofOregon.“Ibecame a UnitedStatescitizenonJuly14,2021.”

Paezhaslivedandworkedinthe UnitedStatessincearrivinginFlorida fromCubawithhisparentswhenhe was13.

AfterworkingasanautopartsdistributorinFlorida,hemovedtoIllinoisin2004withhissecondwife,Tricia,whopassedawayearlierthisyear. Hisfirstwifehadurgedhimtobecome acitizenbefore shepassedawayand Tricia encouragedhimtocontinue securingthelengthyprocess.

HemarriedBarbaraBeecherin1975and sheprecededhimindeathin2018.Theylived formanyyearsinSunCityArizonainwhich hesmartlynicknamed“God’swaitingroom.” ThelastfouryearshelivedinNoblesvillewith TeriandJohninhopesofrenewingrelationshipswithallofhiskids.

Marv,alongwithNeat,spenttimefishing andtraveling,butmostwasspentinCanada atCatsontheRedandPut-in-Bay,OHon LakeErie,whereitwastheirhomeawayfrom home.Theyalsolovedspendingtimewith grandchildren,andinmostrecentyearswith great-grandchildren,whichhethoroughly enjoyed.

“I’mhonoredandbeyondhumbledtojointhis impressivemultinationalteamthathasalonghistoryofprovidingexceptionalshoretechnicalsupporttoourfleetandjointoperations,”saidFlood, a Summerville,SouthCarolina.native.“I’mexcitedto pilot this tremendousorganizationasitcontributes totheNavy’surgentdemandsforreadiness,capabilityandcapacityinpursuitofafreeandopenIndo-Pacific.”

Floodmostrecentlycommandedthe30thNaval Construction Regiment(30NCR)inGuam, which provides commandandcontroloverallNavalConstructionForceunitsinthe7thFleetareaofoperations.Healsoparticipatedinsevendeployments, threeinsupportofOperationsIraqiandEnduring Freedom.

HetakesthehelmfromDeWitt,whoworkedpreviouslyatNAVFACFarEast,asapublicworksofficerfrom2007until2010.

YokosukawasalsoDeWitt’sfirstdutyassignment from1994to1996,whenhe served aboardtheforward-deployedfrigateUSSRodneyM.Davis(FFG 60)asasurfacewarfareofficer.DeWitt’snavalservicebeganin1993aftergraduatingfromtheUniver-

School district foundation searching for board members

TheOregonSchoolFoundation boardislookingforinterestedparents, grandparentsandcommunity memberstofillsixopenseatstheorganizationhasonitsboardofdirectors.

BrockSoltowranfor301yardsand fivetouchdownson32carries,andthe Polo defensegotakeystopmidway throughthesecondhalftopavethe waytovictory.

“That’swhereeverybodywantsto go,andit’sreallyexcitingthatIgetto swimthere,”shesaid.“Therelays, I wasreallyhappywith,andthe100fly, butmy200IMwasnotexactlywhat I wantedtogo,butit’sallright.I’vegot anotherraceatstatenextweek.”

Kilmerswama2:11.31towinthe200 IMbynearlyfivesecondsoverteammateSwiech(2:16.10).Butevenafter beatingherseedtimeby1.47seconds, shestillwantstogofasterthisweekend.
