Drive-thru brat, hot dog lunch offered by Lions on July 9

The Leaf River Lions will be having a Drive Thru Brat and Beef Hot Dog Sandwich lunch on Saturday July 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Serving will be in the old fire station next to the Bertolet Memorial building at 103 W. Second St. The lunch will consist of your choice of either a brat or beef hot dog sandwich with chips, cookie and a drink.

The cost of the meal is $5 with proceeds going toward Lions’ projects.

Oregon district offers old trophies

The Oregon School District is offering the public a chance to pick up old trophies currently on display at the former David L. Rahn Junior High in Mt. Morris.

“Numerous old Oregon/Mt. Morris junior high trophies will be on display and available for any

interested community members to pick up and keep on Friday morning, July 1 from 9 a.m. to noon outside the main doors of the former Mt. Morris Jr. High gym lobby area,” said Mike Lawton, activities director in an email.

The Oregon School Board decided earlier this year to close the David L. Rahn Junior High School, located in Mt. Morris, and move seventh and eighth grade student to the Oregon High School in Oregon, located 5 mies to the east.

FORRESTON LIBRARY Summer Reading Program Summer reading is off to a great start and it’s not too late to join in the fun! Children in preschool through kindergarten meet Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., while students in 1st through 4th grade meet on Wednesdays at 11:15 a.m.. azoellner@shawmedia.com Rumble strips are coming to Lowell Park Road at its intersection with Pines Road, where more than 20 crashes have occurred since 2009.

Ogle County Engineer Jeremy Ciesiel said he ordered temporary rumble strips a few weeks ago, and plans to have permanent ones installed as part of next year’s construction season.

The project should go out to bid in March 2023, and likely will be completed around June 2023, he said.

“The cooperation of the property owners [near the intersection] by signing a petition made the process at lot easier to do,” Ciesiel said. “There was the concern about the proximity of the residents [to the rumble strips], but when they were in favor of it, we were able to move forward with it.”

Marcia Dewey, of Polo, brought petitions signed by the nearby property owners to the May 17 Ogle County Board meeting. The petitions state the residents are OK with rumble strops being added and that they are aware of the noise factor. She also had other petitions with more than 200 total signatures asking that rumble strips be put in on Lowell Park Road.

Dewey was injured in a June 1, 2021, crash at the Lowell Park and Pines roads intersection. The driver of a box truck didn’t obey the stop sign on Lowell Park Road and entered the intersection.

From Jan. 1, 2009, to April 30 of this year, 21 crashes have occurred at the intersection located about 3 miles east of Polo, according to a traffic study conducted by Ciesiel. Sixteen of them involved drivers on Lowell Park Road who either did not obey the stop signs, or failed to yield to traffic on Pines Road after stopping.

The temporary rumble strips cost about $4,000, Ciesiel said. He expects the permanent rumble strips to cost $24,000 to $25,000, based on previous projects’ costs.

These temporary rumble strips will “be an experiment” because of the length of time they’re looking to keep them in place, Ciesiel said.

“To be honest, we’ve never had them up for more

than a couple months,” he said. “I’m not sure how well it will hold up. I got a variety different than what we’ve had on previous projects in the hope we can keep them in place over the winter, but I’m not sure what a snow plow will do to them.”

Ciesiel isn’t sure when the strips will be delivered because of continued supply chain issues. As of June 23, they also still were waiting on the arrival of flashing LED enhanced stop signs for the north and south legs of Lowell Park Road, which were ordered six weeks prior, he said.

“The supply lines for just about everything we’re trying to acquire is so messed up, still,” Ciesiel said.

“I never know when to expect anything. Everything just takes much longer than we would like.”

County highway department employees will install both the stop signs and the temporary rumble strips once they arrive, he said.

Sue Ramage, whose sister was killed in a crash at Lowell Park and Pines roads, said she is “so excited.”

She credited Dewey’s efforts in gathering petition signatures for the addition of the rumble strips.

“I’m very happy, and I still hope for a four-way stop, but rumble strips is a huge start,” Ramage said.

“It’s wonderful. I just hope it’s going to save lots of people from having an accident there, from any direction.”

Her sister, Kathleen Brooks, died July 5, 1972, at age 22. Brooks’ then-2-year-old daughter survived the crash.

“The timing couldn’t be better, because next week is 50 years since my sister got killed,” Ramage said.

“So I feel like it’s for her.”

Let Freedom Ring rolls out red carpet for annual Fourth of July celebration

Mt. Morris’ annual Independence Day festival kicked off Wednesday and will continue through the weekend.

Let Freedom Ring takes place Wednesday, June 29, and Friday to Monday, July 1-4.

“Ours isn’t a huge carnival festival.

It’s a small-town festival,” said Tiffany West, LFR Committee chairperson. “It reminds me of grabbing your picnic basket and blanket and coming out and having a good time.”

On Wednesday, Little Miss and Mister Firecracker were crowned. (The winners names were unavailable in time for Ogle County Newspapers’ print deadline.) The winners will represent Mt. Morris for the next year, participating in the village’s July 4 parade, as well as parades in surrounding areas, West said.

The Jonas Fultz Memorial Car Show runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday on Wesley Street.

“This is a memorial car show,” West said. “In years past, they usually did a cruise. Last year, they chose not to do a cruise, so we’ve changed it to this.”

Friday night’s band is the Sting Rays, who perform 1950s and 1960s style music, she said.

“To incorporate that, we decided to do a ’50s and ’60s style costume contest,” West said. “That’s something new this year.”

Also new is a tractor and small engine show on Saturday, she said.

That takes place in the Kable parking lot from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m., the watermelon eating contest takes place in the Bandshell yard. It has a $5 entry fee, West said.

On Sunday, the Kiddie Parade will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Main Street; registration is at noon on Wesley and Main streets. Firefighters will host water fights for kids starting at 1:30 p.m. on Main Street.

“We have an alumni gathering at the Senior Center,” West said. “It’s people from the Oregon and Mt. Morris area where they can come together and have a good time. We’ll have light snacks, and drinks can be brought in.”

There used to be a dance, but they’ve found people would “rather chit-chat,” she said.

The fireman’s breakfast will open up events on July 4, with breakfast being served from 7 to 11 a.m. at the fire station. The cost is a donation, West said. Breakfast also will be avail-

able at the Mt. Morris Airport from 7 to 11 a.m., with the fly-in/drive-in breakfast.

Registration for Pound the Pavement is from 8 to 9 a.m. at Dillehay Park, with the run starting at 9 a.m.

“They are the biggest supporters of the festival,” West said. “They give us a large check each year. This year was $4,000.”

This year’s patriotic program – which takes place at the Bandshell stage from noon to 1 p.m. – will include a recreation of former President Ronald Reagan’s speech, as well as a motorcade, West said.

Then, at 1 p.m., the Illinois Freedom Bell will be rung.

The parade follows at 2 p.m.

“If anybody wants last minute to participate, please feel free,” West said. “Show up at registration and we’ll get you a spot.”

She encouraged past royalty to participate by either creating their own float or hopping in a convertible with a sign stating the year they were a queen or king.

“Then our grand fireworks [start at dusk],” West said. “The firework people said it was going to be a better year than last year, so I’m excited to see what they’re going to be.”

Raffle tickets to be the one to start the firework show are on sale now and will be available for purchase until 8:30 p.m. on July 4, when the winner will be announced, West said.

A total of $77,673.39 was allocated to county departments, $39,351.06 to community organizations and $42,500 to the Mt. Morris Fire Protection District in the form of an economic development grant.

Ogle County received $9,836,809 in ARPA funds, which was delivered in two tranches; the second tranche was delivered in June.

“Last year’s money, the tranche of money we first got – the $4.98 million – we set aside $500,000 of it for monies for the economic development operations as well as grants to assist communities on economic development,” Finance Committee Chairperson Greg Sparrow said.

The county set aside 5% of the second tranche – $250,000 – for community development grants or other nonprofit entities, he said.

The Mt. Morris Fire Protection District had to complete an application in order to be eligible for the economic development grant.

Applications are considered by the Ogle County Economic Development Department, the county Finance and Insurance Committee and the Executive Committee before being sent to the full county board for final approval.

ARPA was signed into law by President Joe Biden on March 11, 2021. It is a $1.9 trillion package that offers “fast and direct economic assistance for American workers, families, small businesses and industries,” according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury website.

One program ARPA supports is the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds program, which delivered $350 billion to state, local and tribal governments. Of that, $65.1 billion was designated for counties.

The amount each county gets is based on its share of the U.S. population, according to a National Association of Counties March 2021 legislative analysis of ARPA.

New management for iconic drive-in, but same legacy

azoellner@shawmedia.com Jay’s Drive-In has new owners, but the Ortizes plan to honor the car hop’s legacy.

Area residents Amy and Michael Ortiz purchased the ’50s- and ’60s-themed car hop from Terry and Vicky Wilkens on June 3.

“Vicky and Terry have been training us for this entire process,” Amy Ortiz said. “They’ve been wonderful in helping us keep on their legacy of Jay’s.”

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Ortiz said. They plan to reopen Mondays at a later date.

“We’re keeping the same menu,” she said. “Nothing is changing. We’re just working on getting some stuff from vendors.”

Visitors also will see familiar faces while being served, as the staff remains the same – including the Wilkens, Ortiz said.

Jay’s Drive-In, located at 107 W. Washington St., in Oregon, was closed at the start of June for inventory and reopened on June 12, she said.

“We are planning to do a lot more events at Jay’s,” Ortiz said, noting that they also purchased the lot behind Jay’s Drive-In. Halloween parties and Easter egg hunts are potential future events, and the Ortizes also are looking to add a live acoustic music night to the list of offerings.

“We’re very excited to be part of the Oregon community,” Ortiz said.

ere we are almost to the Fourth of July. It always seemed to me that when we reached the Fourth of July, school soon started and summer ended. Now I think that summer is really just getting started. The days are hot, the grass is turning brown, and the watering of the flowers is a necessity.

But the rains have arrived just in time. Today at breakfast, Bob and Bud called the rain, the “million dollar rain.” We have all heard that term for years and I did not have to water my plants.

I was just glad the downpour did not happen on my birthday or last week when we had Town and Country Days. Some years we have not been so fortunate with Polo’s big days.

Monday of this past week several of us started work on the display board for St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. When the file cabinet was brought down from Aplington House it got over turned. Several of the file folders were all upside down and the Lutheran Church was one of them.

I put the churches information and pictures in a box. I was just glad that all the information was down at the history museum and not upstairs at Aplington House. We could work where it was cooler.

We spent most of the day simply laying things out and we had plenty of room. Pictures on one table and history on another. Mike and Kurt had brought the big board down and so we started to see what space we had.

Lily started making headings and Lori, who is our church secretary, started laying pictures out on the board. Linda and I watched and gave directions. The time went fast and we all went home tired although maybe I was the only one tired.

I went to bed early and the phone woke me up at seven the next morning

and the message was not a good one.

John Fritts had been killed the afternoon before in a tragic accident.

Two days before on the day of Polo’s parade John stood in my living room and I introduced him to my granddaughter Clare. She was there to take me to the parade.

His last words to me before he went out the door were, “Betty, it is nice that your children and grandchildren are taking such good care of you.” He was such a compassionate person and always interested in how you were doing.

John, Kenneth, and I went back a long time together when we all volunteered for Representative Jerry Mitchell. Those of us from Polo who handled Jerry’s train were Tom Scholl, Curt and Pat Erickson, Kenneth, and myself.

Most of my grandchildren rode in that little train. Clare rode in it many times. Kenneth and Tom would take turns driving the tractor that pulled it or driving the truck that carried the train to parades. The rest of us would

walk and hand out Tootsie Rolls.

Even today if I am at a parade, I have to have a Tootsie Roll.

The day of my 90th birthday party, Krista, my daughter from Wisconsin, enjoyed visiting with John and his wife.

Krista told John she learned how to put the train together and take it apart.

She brought her two boys down from the north and they rode in the train.

We also had to find children from other towns for all those parades.

It was a great day all of us visiting together that day of my birthday.

I certainly was not prepared for the phone call on Tuesday. I was emotionally drained and hardly able to comprehend what had happened. How can life change so quickly? It all seemed so unreal.

That is why we have to make the most of each day and live life to the fullest.

The father, B. F. Sheets, was born in Wallsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1832, four years before Oregon was founded. His father was a farmer.

While living on their farm in Kane County, Illinois, he attended Rock River Seminary in Mt. Morris. He moved to Oregon in 1861 where he became deputy circuit clerk for Ogle County.

In 1862, he was elected sheriff of Ogle County. In the same year he was mustered in as Lieutenant-Colonel of the 92 Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. He served as our senator (18891893). He also was a very successful merchant owning a hardware, plumbing and heating business in downtown Oregon.

His life is a great success story, farm boy, business man, sheriff, senator and superintendent for the Illinois Reformatory located at Pontiac. He

B. F.’s son Rev. Frank D. Sheets was born in Mt. Morris on Oct. 25, 1858.

Rev. Sheets served as pastor of several of the larger churches in the Rock River Conference, Grace Methodist in Rockford, Embury Methodist at Freeport and several Chicago churches.

After retirement they moved to 102 S 7th Street next to his father’s house.

B. F.’s son, Dr. Horace Sheets, lived at 500 S. 6th Street. Horace graduated from Oregon High School in 1886 and

attended Rush Medical College, receiving his medical degree in 1901.

On Dec. 11, 1918, he was assigned to duty at Fort Riley, Kansas, with the rank of captain.

While practicing medicine in Oregon for 27 years, his office was located above the Oregon State Savings Bank building at 406 Washington St. Being an avid golfer he was a founding member of the Oregon Country Club.

Ogle County fair board still seeks contestants for queen pageant The Ogle County Fair Board is seeking contestants for its 2022 Queen Pageant.

The pageant includes four divisions: Little Miss & Mr., Junior Miss, Young Miss and Miss Ogle County Fair.

The pageant will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, opening night of the fair, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The 168th Ogle County Fair will be held from Wednesday, Aug. 3, through Sunday, Aug. 7, at the fairgrounds, 1440 N. Limekiln Road, one mile west of Oregon just north of Illinois 64.

The Little Miss & Mr. Division is open to children ages 5-8, Junior is for ages 9-12, Young is for ages 13-15 and Miss is open to ages 16-21.

Winners in each division will participate in events at this year’s fair and throughout the coming year.

Chicago’s oldie’s rock and roll band, The StingRays, will perform on July 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Warren Reckmeyer Bandshell in downtown Mt. Morris.

“Everyone fortunate enough to see previous shows by this exciting and engaging act will fondly remember the dynamic stage presence of this wonderful band and will attest to the ‘do not miss’ grade level of their show,” said Larry Ubben, organizer. “The StingRays play the greatest music ever written and play it with the energy, passion and authenticity of the artists whose music they love.”

Ubben said the StingRays love interacting with audiences through trivia, dance contests and even joining people in the audience.

“The StingRays always get the crowd dancing and singing to songs from Rockabilly – tons of ’60s to the ’70s,” he said.

Concessions for the evening will be provided by the Ogle County Beef Producers and Hector’s Corn Roaster. The Let Freedom Ring Committee will be serving root beer floats. Concessions will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

“It’s opening night of the four-day Let Freedom Ring Festival, adding much more to the already festive

Plenty of live music on the slate in downtown Mt. Morris

Summer reading is essential to not falling behind T

he importance of reading during the summer months has been studied extensively and results indicate that students who do not read in the summer lose skills, often falling below reading levels they achieved during the school year.

It can be compared with an athlete who for some reason sits out a season and/or the offseason training. It takes time to get back to the same performance levels they had. For this month we’ll look at several ways we can encourage our children and grandchildren to include some reading in busy summer schedules.

One consideration is that spending 15 to 30 minutes five days a week would be enough to prevent summer reading loss. The reading does not have to be completed all at one time.

For example, we might help build routines that fit in two 10 or 15-minute times for reading several days each week.

Reading aloud to your children and grandchildren counts, too!

A second idea is to include all kinds of books, magazines, recipes and cookbooks, instructions or directions, or web-based reading on various internet sites. Books, of course, can be electronic versions which may offer more appeal. A good goal is to try to read a wide variety of genres as well.

Any reading done for everyday events can count. Think about the reading you do in a program you receive at a baseball game or a play.

Reading directions to put something together or rules for a game offer another kind of reading.

There is certainly reading when

you cook with recipes. You might keep a log of all the different kinds of reading your family does over the summer.

We also need to be sure that reading materials are available for our children and grandchildren. Our local public libraries have excellent summer reading programs for all ages.

This summer’s theme has an outdoor focus and is called “Read Beyond the Beaten Path.” Children need to sign up and set a goal for the number of books they plan to read. Both the Oregon and Mt. Morris libraries have engaging activities throughout June and July and an end-of-program special event.

The Oregon Public Library program runs from June 6 through July 29. Registration began May 19, and you can register at any time. The Mt. Morris Public Library program registration was May 31 to June 17.

The Mt. Morris program ends on July 23. You need to have a library

card to participate in the library summer reading programs and registration is required for many of the activities.

Be sure to stop in one of the libraries for further information and details about obtaining a library card if you do not already have one. The staff members are also happy to help you locate books for all ages and interests.

Time spent reading plus reading all kinds and genres of texts (including digital and electronic versions) plus making sure reading materials are available equals a recipe for summer reading that will prevent a summer reading slide. Enjoy time this summer reading to and with your children and grandchildren!

LET FREEDOM RING Mt. Morris’ own Aireloom Music Studio Musicians will provide free live music for the crowd on the Campus during the annual Let Freedom Ring Festival on July 2 from 4 to 8 p.m.

First up, local duo Acoustic Axis opens the afternoon of free live music on the bandshell from 4 to 5 p.m. Guitarists and singers Kevin Remrey and Larry Ubben, with guest percussionist Gary Saunders, perform blues and classic rock from Leadbelly and Jimmy Reed through the Who and Tom Petty with passion and style.

Next, Aireloom Music Studio owner Mary Ley will be performing after a two and a half year hiatus with her Native American Flutes, classical and acoustic guitars from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Ley will share some folk, kids songs, Spanish, French and patriotic tunes.

Closing out Saturday’s lineup of free live music is local musician Chris Kolling, a guitar player and song singer, performing from 7 to 8 p.m.. The music he performs includes some familiar classic rock and roll as well as original material. Kolling teaches guitar and other instruments at Aireloom Music Studio in Mt. Morris.

Concessions for the evening will be provided by the Ogle County Pork Producers, who will be serving their famous butterfly pork chop sandwiches, chips, drinks and dessert from 5 to 7 p.m., just south of the bandshell. LFR’s watermelon eating contest will happen on the Campus at 6:30 p.m. after Ley’s show.

Reagan’s 1963 bell dedication to be revisited in Mt. Morris

President Ronald Reagan, portrayed by Mark Tremble of the Performing Arts Guild, will “return” to the Mt. Morris campus at

noon on July 4.

He will reminisce about his 1963 visit to the village to dedicate its first Illinois Freedom Bell at the Veterans Memorial Fountain.

“Reagan’s bell dedication speech, reminiscent of the ’60s reverberates throughout the years. It was delivered about six months after the Cuban Missile Crisis and four years before he became governor of California,” organizer Sally Gray said. “He served eight years as the 40th president of the United States starting in 1981.”

Reagan’s motorcade will arrive at the campus shortly after the program begins. He will be joined on stage by choir and band members from the junior and senior high schools of the Oregon Community Unit School District.

“The students are from Mt. Morris and Oregon. The program finale will be performed by a barbershop quartet singing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’” Gray said. “The official State of Illinois Freedom Bell adjacent to the century-old Reckmeyer bandshell will be rung immediately following the patriotic program. All are invited to participate in ringing the giant bell.”

The Let Freedom Ring grand parade begins at 2 p.m.

“Reagan’s bell dedication transitioned the theme of the Mt. Morris July Fourth Festival in the late 1950s from ‘An Old Fashioned Fourth’ to today’s ‘Let Freedom Ring,’” Gray said. “Our 2022 campus celebration combines both traditions including an invocation, the pledge of allegiance, speeches, a choir, band, barbershop quartet, bell ringing and The Star-Spangled Banner.

The First Fridays Open Mic returns on July 1 to K’s Sports Bar in Oregon.

“The monthly event attracts many talented performers, but musicians and singers of all skill levels find acceptance from its supportive audience. Each performer is allowed 15 minutes, and everyone can also join in on a jam session at the end of the show,” said Lowell Harp, organizer.

The show starts at 7 p.m. “Admission is free, although a jar is available for donations.

After graduation, she worked at both MicroSwitch and Kable News in Mt. Morris. Viola married Harold E. “Bud” Nighswonger on August 28, 1948 in Forreston. Harold preceded her in death on March 24th, 2003. Viola was a mother and homemaker, and she enjoyed being a 4-H leader, Girl Scout Leader, and volunteer at the Byron Forest Preserve. She also worked in Byron at the Sno-White Bakery, Ben Franklin Dime Store, Murphy’s Restaurant in the Cacciatore’s Grocery Store, and caring for the landscape at Byron Bank. Viola enjoyed being

United Way of Lee County to join with Ogle County The United Way of Lee County Board of Directors has approved a union with the Ogle County territory to expand the region currently served.

“UWLC has successfully funded local nonprofit partner agencies throughout the years because of the area’s vibrant volunteer culture.

We are excited to foster similar opportunities for those who live and work in Ogle County, for those who want to help these vital programs improve the lives of their neighbors. We are proud of the work done in Lee County, and we know Ogle County deserves no less,” said Peter Shaw, United Way of Lee County’s Board President.

While many factors contributed to this decision, one of the main reasons was that the two counties share many of the same nonprofit agencies.

“Many of our local partner agencies and donor businesses cross lines into both counties. This change will allow a more streamlined donor experience as well as the opportunity to collaborate, benefiting both counties,” said Amanda Wike, Executive Director of

United Way of Lee County.

This change was driven by the United Way campaigns in both Lee and Ogle counties.

“We are always evaluating how we can better support the community,” said Jennifer Heintzelman, Vice President of the United Way of Lee County Board of Directors. “When the opportunity arose, we knew we had to make it happen. Both counties are very similar in size, serving similar populations. It makes perfect sense that we coordinate resources and streamline our processes.”

United Way of Lee County is actively seeking individuals to volunteer for the Ogle County Advisory Board as well as different campaign positions.

SHERIFF ACTIVITY Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reports the following activity.

June 20 James A. Catalano, 69, of Dixon, was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm (class 1 felony) after deputies responded to the 4000 block of West Timber Lane near Grand Detour at approximately 12:04 p.m. in response to a welfare check.

Catalano was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held pending a court appearance.

June 21 At approximately 8:42 a.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at Big Mound and Kilbuck roads. An investigation showed Glenn Wille, 41, of Davis Junction, was traveling east on Big Mound Road in his 2015 Dodge Dart when he failed to obey the stop sign at that intersection. Wille’s vehicle collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado driven by James Sundly, 37, of Machesney Park. Sundly and his passenger, Dominic

Patton, 19, of Lindenwood, were transported to Rochelle Community Hospital for suspected minor injuries. Wille was cited for disobeying a stop sign. The crash remains under investigation.

At approximately 5:29 p.m., deputies and Monroe Center, Lynn-Scott-Rock, Stillman Valley and Kirkland fire protection districts and EMS responded to the intersection of Illinois Route 72 and North Mulford Road for a two-vehicle crash with injuries. An investigation showed that a Chevrolet sedan driven by Mark Dunklau, 61, of Paw Paw, was traveling south on North Mulford Road, just east of Route 72, when Dunklau continued into the intersection without stopping at the posted stop sign. Dunklau’s vehicle was truck by a Volvo truck-tractor, which was hauling a trailer, driven by Alfredo Mantiel, 27, of Kirkland, who had been eastbound on Route 72, just west of the intersection. Both vehicles came to rest in the southeast ditch.

Dunklau and Mantiel both were transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Dunklau later was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

June 23 Tommy Marcum, 35, was arrested for domestic battery after deputies responded to the 100 block of Allen Street in Holcomb at 1:08 a.m. for a domestic disturbance.

Marcum was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held pending a court appearance.

Tanis O’Brien, 22, of Dixon, was arrested for improper container/driver (cannabis)

after deputies responded to the intersection of West Pines and Lowell Park roads at approximately 2:15 a.m. for a reported disabled vehicle. O’Brien also was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

O’Brien was released on scene and given a return court date.

Cesar Ramirez-Rivera, 20, of Aurora, Colorado, was arrested for driving without a valid driver’s license after a traffic stop on Interstate 88 mile marker 72 at 10:09 p.m.

Ramirez-Rivera also was cited for expired registration. Ramirez-Rivera was released at the scene and given a future court date.

June 24 Dianna Tyler, 36, of Rockford, was arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop at Illinois Route 251 and Big Mound Road at 1:19 a.m. Tyler was released on an I-Bond and given a future court date.

Gordon was transported to a Rockford area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 6:04 p.m., deputies, Lynn-Scott-Rock and Rochelle fire protection districts and EMS responded to the intersection of Illinois Routes 64 and 251 for a two-vehicle crash with unknown injuries.

An investigation showed that a Dodge Ram driven by Ruslan Aldamov, 44, of Lynnwood, Washington, was traveling east on Route 64 when Aldamov failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection.

Aldamov’s vehicle then struck a southbound Kia driven by Davonte R. Williams, 31, of Rockford. Williams and their passenger, Channing A. Lewis, 30, of Rockford, were checked for injuries before refusing further medical treatment.Aldamov was cited for driving with no valid driver’s license, failure to obey a stop sign and driving with unsafe/

NOTICE OF PUBLIC SALE OF REAL ESTATE OREGON COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 220 OGLE COUNTY, ILLINOIS Notice is hereby given that the Board of Education of Oregon Community Unit School District 220, Ogle County, Illinois, (“Board”) will sell at public sale the property located at 105 W. Brayton Road, Mount Morris, IL 61054, commonly known as the David L. Rahn Junior High School (the “Real Estate”), by sealed bid. Bids must be submitted in a sealed envelope entitled “Bid for School District Real Estate.” The name, address, and telephone number of the bidder must be displayed on the outside of the bid. Bids shall be due on August 9th, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., at the District Administrative Office, 206 S. 10th Street, Oregon, IL 61061. All bids received after August 9th, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., will not be considered and will be returned unopened to the bidder. Facsimile bids will not be considered. Bids will be opened and read aloud on August 9th, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., at the District Administrative Office. The award of the bid, if at all, shall be by the Board of Education on August 15th, 2022, at 6:30 p.m., or such later date as the Board may determine.

Beginning on June 28, 2022, at 9:00 a.m., a bidder's information packet will be available at the District Administrative Office and on the District's website, www.ocusd.net, which shall contain the terms and conditions of the sale, a Bid Form, a specimen lease agreement, a specimen real estate purchase agreement, an ALTA survey, a commitment for title insurance for the Real Estate, and such other documents as made available by the Board in the bid packet. Any questions relating to the sale of the Real Estate should be sent via email to the attention of Dr. Thomas Mahoney, Superintendent at tmahoney@ocusd. net. A written response to all inquiries shall be given by Dr. Mahoney to all bidder that have provided him with contact information. No oral representations will be binding upon the Board.

Additionally, no inquiries may be submitted after August 5th, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.

The sale will be made on the following terms: (i) 10% of the bid amount in earnest money is deposited by the successful bidder within three business days of the execution of the contract by the Board; (ii) the successful bidder leases a portion of the Real Estate back to the Board through June 30, 2025; (iii) an optional pre-bid meeting will be held at the Real Estate on July 11th, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.; (iv) the Real Estate is being sold “AS-IS” without any representations; and (v) the Board reserves the right to reject any and all bids whether they meet the bid specifications or not,including bids that meet the minimum purchase price, to waive any irregularities, or to reschedule the public sale. Bidders are encouraged to obtain a bidder's information packet that contains further details on the terms and conditions of the sale.
