Scouts make blankets for Polo Rehab residents

BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com Residents of Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center received gifts Dec. 22 that warmed their bodies and hearts alike.

Eight members of Forreston Girls Scout Troop 1092 and their three leaders delivered handmade fleece blankets and Christmas cards to each of the center’s 48 residents, and treated them to Christmas carols besides.

After leading the residents in “Jingle Bells” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” the Scouts handed out the blankets and cards, receiving big smiles and enthusiastic thank yous in return.

Troop leader Heather Menke said the troop learned in November that the center was short on blankets and set to work filling that need.

Leader Dr. April Moore said the 17 girls in the troop worked for five hours on a recent Saturday, making a total of 51 blankets. Some even took blankets home to finish them.

“The girls worked really hard on this project,” she said. “We wanted to be absolutely sure everyone got a blanket and a card.”

Moore also credited the community for pitching in.

The Forreston Lions Club, Forreston State Bank, Koeller’s Forreston Hardware, numerous citizens, and Moore herself made monetary donations that paid for the materials.

Gouker said that while that move would save money, the legalities still need to be reviewed by state’s attorney Eric Morrow.

The Ogle County Board has eliminated one step in the zoning process.

The board approved an ordinance to the zoning map amendment and special use permit procedure Dec. 18 that makes the Supervisor of Assessments and Planning & Zoning Committee’s recommendation no longer necessary.

Up to now, after the Zoning Board of Appeals heard a zoning request, it would report its findings to the committee, which also then made a recommendation to the county board on the same request.

The county board makes the final decision on all zoning requests after considering the recommendations.

Now, according to the new ordinance, the ZBA will report its findings directly to the county board without going through the Supervisor of Assessments and

Planning & Zoning Committee.

Three county board members who are also members of the committee objected.

Wayne Reising, of Oregon, said the move would be a “disservice” to the county board.

Tom Smith, of Rochelle, agreed.

“We’re the elected people,” he said “Now you want to take us out of the equation.”

The Supervisor of Assessments and Planning & Zoning Committee is made up of seven county board members.

Lyle Hopkins, of Polo, also objected. “I feel that step is a very

Jan. 9 is county-wide Forreston Cardinals Day

BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com The Forreston High School varsity football team got county-wide recognition Dec. 18 for its state championship.

The Ogle County Board declared Wednesday, Jan. 9 as Forreston Cardinals Football State Championship Day in the county.

The Cardinals won their third state championship in five years in Class 1A Nov. 23 when they defeated the Camp Point Central Panthers 44-6 at a game held at the University of Illinois in Champaign.

Board chairman Kim Gouker designated board member Dean Fox, of German Valley, to present the proclamation to FHS officials.

“Therefore be it resolved, on this 18th day of December, 2018, in recognition of their hard work and dedication, and the honor they have brought to all of the citizens of Ogle County, by winning their third state football championship in a span of five years, the Ogle Country Board hereby designates that Wednesday, January 9, 2019, shall be recognized as Forreston Cardinals Football State Championship Day, in all of Ogle County, Illinois, and encourage all residents of Ogle County to join in recognition of this fine and exemplary group of young men, and their entire coaching staff,” the proclamation reads.

By Karen Merlak We have reached the final week of busyness before the Christmas holiday.

We are grateful for the quiet moments in between the activity.

Even with all the planning for a beautiful Christmas, our thoughts turn to the real blessing of the season, a Savior.

This year, I will be missing our church service for the last Sunday in Advent and the Christmas Eve service at Pine Creek Christian Church.

I couldn’t turn down an invitation to spend the holiday with my daughter, Stephanie, in Minneapolis.

This is the time of year for reflections on the past holidays and on the many memories we have created.

The Christmas Eve program has been a big part of our Christmas celebration in Pine Creek for many, many years.

Several of us have memories of trying to remember lines and songs as children.

I will always remember the hymn, “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”

As a young child, this was the song we were singing in the program and I had a little trouble with the words.

On the drive to the church on Christmas Eve, I still remember my mom helping me with the line, “Above thy deep and dreamless sleep.”

This is one of my favorite hymns to this day. The silence on Christmas Eve has a magical quality.

One special Christmas, I invited our friend, Thelma Jones, to the program.

After dropping her at her home in town, I made the drive my home in country.

The moonlight over the snow in the

fields was something out of storybook.

The peace found in the glistening snow stays with me even today.

My favorite Christmas memory will always be when our children met Santa in the mall in Sterling.

The jolly man in the red suit engaged our children, carrying on a conversation out of our earshot.

Their visit ended with Matt tugging on his beard, and smiles from all of us watching.

The joy from that visit with St. Nick made the celebration even more wonderful on Christmas morning.

Sharing the morning with our children, gifts opened, and paper littering the floor reminds us the wonder of giving and receiving a gift.

The most precious gift was given to us by God. Not every Christmas has been picture perfect.

When Clint was four years old, he touched his hand on a heater hours before the Christmas Eve program.

The burn didn’t seem serious until after the program, so Clint and I went

to the emergency room.

Watching him sleep in the back of the van on the way home reminded me of the care that Mary gave to Jesus who came into this world as an infant.

It is fitting that Christmas comes to us at the end of the calendar year.

We can look back on the months that have passed, thankful for the good and difficult days.

More importantly, we start to look forward to the new year.

We are filled with a sense of hope in what could be in next twelve months.

We can face this time with hope because we have gotten to know the Savior.

We have established a relationship with the One who came to save each of us.

My wish is that each of you will be filled with peace, joy, love, and hope this season.

Come and join our church family as we continue to celebrate all that we have received from the season.

A Stillman Valley man was honored last week for saving the life of a high school classmate.

Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle presented the 911 Hero Award to Russell Carlson Dec. 20 for his quick response when Gary Hollingsworth, 79, of Holcomb, suffered a heart attack last summer.

Carlson credited the CPR training he had 30 years ago when he was a volunteer fireman.

“Taking CPR classes every year was stressed, and I took them,” he said with a smile. “Year after year, as you all know, it can get boring.

But I guess it kicked in.”

Carlson became tearful, remembering the August day that he used his skills.

“I got a second chance - I had cancer in 2002, and I wanted Gary to get his second chance,” he said. “I’ve known him since high school.”

Hollingsworth, who had quadruple heart bypass surgery 19 years ago, said he and his wife were hosting a luncheon at their home when he suddenly was stricken.

“I was reaching for a chair and that’s the last thing I remember,” he said.

WWII VETERAN HONORED

Bronze Star awarded to family of Byron soldier Medals come 74 years after they were earned for bravery

BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com The family of a Byron World War II veteran finally received his decorations for bravery last week, almost 74 years after he earned them.

Staff Sergeant Gene Sabin was honored during a ceremony held Dec. 17 at the U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger’s office in Ottawa.

Kinzinger presented Sabin’s award, a Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster pin denoting a second award of the same medal, to his grandson Mike Schabacker, of Stillman Valley, while several other family members watched.

He also presented Sabin’s campaign medals, good conduct medal, World War II victory medal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge to the family.

Kinzinger explained that Sabin’s service records were among the millions of files lost in the 1973 fire at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis.

Born in Sycamore in 1920, Sabin lived most of his life in Byron, and died in 1984.

Schabacker said that after his grandmother died, family members found a letter Sabin had written, asking about the Bronze Stars he had never received.

He then contacted Kinzinger to see if anything could be done.

Although most of the records were destroyed, a few partial records were located, Schabacker said.

“They were able to establish he was awarded two Bronze Stars for heroic action,” he said. “I was very excited we were able to get it straightened out — it’s official now.”

While there are no records of Sabin’s decorations, Bill Lenches, the executive director and curator of the 12th Armored Division Museum in Abilene, Texas, provided some information.

“Gene Sabin served as a squad leader in the 3rd Platoon of B Company, 66th Armored Infantry Battalion,” he said. “One of his fellow

Carlson immediately began chest compressions while another luncheon guest Dorothy Hollandsworth dialed 911.

EMTs Todd Seaworth, Mike Alsup, and Bill Newkirk soon arrived, along with paramedic Chris Kunce.

“By 5:31 you had a normal heartbeat and normal breathing, and that was before you ever got to Swedish American,” Mott told Hollingsworth.

He stressed that Carlson’s early intervention was the key to Hollingsworth’s successful recovery.

Mott said Hollingsworth wanted to meet and personally thank the emergency responders who came to the scene, as well as telecommunicator Brian Symons, who answered the 911 call.

The workshop will be led by NLI’s Director of Stewardship, Zach Grycan, and Melissa Grycan, Stewardship Technician for The Land Conservancy of McHenry County.

Participants will learn how to identify native and non-native trees and shrubs by buds, twigs, and bark.

The workshop will start with an indoor classroom session to be held at Natural Land Institute’s office, 320 S. 3rd St., in Rockford, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

There will be a break for lunch with the afternoon session incorporating hands-on learning with a walk from 1– 2 p.m. at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, 2715 S. Main St., Rockford.

Meeting to plan Black Hawk plaza is Jan. 15

Simpson to present geology program on Jan. 8

A planning meeting to share ideas for the renovation of the plaza around the Black Hawk Statue is scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Nash Recreation Center, Oregon.

George Bellovics, landscape architect for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will lead the meeting.

The plaza area includes the parking lot, walk-ways,

interpretive kiosks, viewing area with rock wall, and accessories such as benches and landscaping.

All interested persons and community leaders are encouraged to attend to lend their ideas for development of the new plaza.

The snow date is Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Retired Highland Community College professor Steve Simpson will present a program on “Every Rock Tells a Story” at the Northwest Illinois Audubon monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, 1010 Park Blvd., Freeport.

Drawing on his 32-year career teaching geology, Simpson will tell stories as revealed by rocks.

Attendees are encouraged to bring rocks and fossils for “analysis” and discussion.

He will also share some of his favorite stories about rocks and their discoveries by careful investigations of geologists.

A program about tracking will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Oakdale Nature Preserve near Freeport.

The age-old art of tracking was an essential life skill for early peoples.

Today, tracking gives us a way to learn what animals are present and what they are doing when we cannot see them.

The program will begin at the Mogle Center at Oakdale.

Participants should dress for the weather including footwear for snow.

Partnership for creative classes offered by OPD The Oregon Park District and Village of Progress have partnered to offer creative expression classes throughout the year.

The January class will create a child-size snowman porch decoration.

“Allow your child to express their creativity and create projects out of recycled materials with the

consumers and staff from the Village of Progress,” said Tina Ketter, superintendent of receation for the park district. “Kids ages K-3rd will be working alongside people with developmental disability to create a child-size porch decoration of a snowman to decorate your home.

Each participant must be accompanied by an adult.”

Class will be on Friday, Jan. 18 from 12:30-2 p.m., which is a half day of school for Oregon School District students.

“The fee is just $6 for residents of the Oregon Park District and $7 for non-residents,” Ketter said. “The deadline to register is Friday, Jan. 11. Register at www.oregonpark. org or call 815-732-3101.”

The partnership is able to continue this program thanks to a Douglas and Lynn M. Roberts Family Foundation Grant.

The program is for children ages five and six years old, along with a parent or guardian, and will start at 10:30 a.m.

Wee Nats is offered the first Saturday of each month through May. It will last approximately one hour and each month will have a different nature

theme.

The program includes a lesson, story, craft, and a hike. The cost is $5 per child and there will be a 15 student limit.

January’s program will study animals who live under the snow.

OUTDOOR EVENT Wee Naturalist program offered for kids on Jan. 5 University of Illinois Extension, in partnership with the DeKalb County Forest Preserve, will be hosting their Wee Naturalist program on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m.

The program will take place at the Natural Resource Education Center in Russell Woods Forest Preserve located one mile west of Genoa on Illinois 72.

With the Polo girls basketball tournament wrapped up, it was a 1-3 record for the host Marcos.

West Carroll defeated Polo 55-41 in the fifth-place game, avenging an earlier 58-52 defeat.

The highlight of the tourney for Polo was a 55-45 win over Oregon.

In the topsy-turvy world of local girls basketball, it was also a case of two teams splitting decisions, as Oregon had previously beaten Polo 47-38.

“The win against Oregon was the best all-around we’ve played this year,” Polo coach Jeff Grobe said.

More impressive was the fact that Marcos did it without top player, Alex Dusing, who tore an ACL against Forreston and is out for the season.

“She’s out for about 8-9 months,”

If there is a silver lining for Dusing’s injury, it is that everyone else will take on added responsibilities and playing time. For a team as young as Polo, that would be instrumental going forward.

“We’re a real good fresh-soph team playing varsity competition,” Grobe said.

Oregon is 3-8 overall and will continue to have its ups and downs as the girls learn to adjust to varsity action and a very competitive conference slate. Grobe feels there have been 2-3 games that got away from the team.

“We need to be more consistent and keep on improving,” Grobe said.

“The potential is there.”

With a little over five weeks of the regular season remaining, Polo has been assigned as a 1A regional host.

It will be a major challenge with heavyweights Amboy, AFC, Dakota and Freeport listed in that sub-sectional.

“Come regional time, we could do some damage,” Grobe said.

Polo’s next game is Jan. 7 at Stockton. The first home game of 2019 isn’t until Jan. 17 against rival Forreston.

Dec. 17 Aquin 53, Oregon 46: Trey Woolsey had 14 points and Ryker Finch added 10 for the Hawks in a loss to the Bulldogs at the Forreston Tournament.

Brennan Carlson had 15 points for Aquin, and Ben Hunzinger added 14.

Forreston 60, Orangeville 35: After a 15-15 first quarter the Cardinals erupted for 17 points to Orangeville’s six in the second quarter.

Braedon Fyock led the Cardinals with 15 points on four treys. Mitchelle Heinz followed with 10 and Hunter Rogers added eight followed by Derek DeVries with six and Kolten Dirty with five.

Dec. 18 Polo 55, Dakota 49: Polo jumped out to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter, and held on to beat Dakota in the consolation bracket game at the Forreston Tournament.

Brady Webb dropped in a game-high 19 points for Polo. Braiden Soltow helped with 12 points, while forwards Lane Hopkins and Justin Young each had nine.

Forreston 42, Freeport Aquin 41: The Cardinals outscored Aquin 17-13 in the final period of play to win a closely contested game.

Ethan Greenfield led Forreston with 15 points and Braedon Fyock scored 14 on four treys and one free throw. Hayden Singley had five points and Mitchell Heinz four.

Oregon 65, Pecatonica 63: The Hawks held off a late charge by the Indians to claim 13th place at Forreston on Dec. 20 Trey Woolsey hit four 3-pointers and led all scorers with 27 points for Oregon, which led 51-40 after three quarters.

Noah Campos also hit four 3s and scored 18 points, and Dalton Hermes added 15 points in the win.

Griffin Mulcahy had 18 points to pace Pec. Dec. 21 Polo 55, Forreston 43: The Marcos took ninth place with a win over the host Cardinals.

Braiden Soltow scored 20 points to lead Polo, with Brady Webb adding 15 and Justin Young scoring nine.

Braedon Fyock led Forreston with 20 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Hayden Singley and Mitchell Heinz had nine each for the Cardinals.

Polo led 14-12 after one quarter, then scored 16 points in the second to take a 30-20 lead into halftime.

WRESTLING Twelfth Place: Polo was 12th as a team at the Panther Invitational on Dec. 15 with 38 points.

Taking fifth for the Marcos were 120-pounder Connor Eubanks, 145-pounder Alex Davies, and 160-pounder Marcus McKenna.

Marcos split: Polo split a pair of matches at Stillman Valley, defeating Somonauk 36-28 and losing to the host Cardinals 47-32.

Alex Davies won two bouts at 145 pounds to pace the Marcos.

Connor Eubanks (126) won against Somonauk, while Lane Lindquist (160) and Marcus McKenna (170) won against Stillman.

n a historical vote whose ramifications will be felt for years to come, member schools of the IHSA narrowly approved a district format for football.

The vote was 324 in favor and 307 against.

Beginning two years from now, teams will be no longer be affiliated with conferences. Rather, they will be placed geographically within 8-9 team districts of similar sized enrollment.

This only applies to football. All other sports remain the same within their conferences.

Already, shockwaves are being throughout Illinois, with many schools adamantly opposed to the concept of districts and the potential problems created by their facilitation.

Basically, half the schools agree with the proposal and the other half do not, with a small minority (69) offering no opinion. This issue is not going away any time soon and the IHSA offices will be bombarded with complaints from the no camp.

Much of the blame is being placed on the IHSA, but let’s be clear. It was not the IHSA’s intention to implement districts without a majority approval by its member schools.

But, had they not proposed the plan, it never would have came to fruition. The reason for putting it up for vote were numerous complaints schools had about difficulties in scheduling, conference instability, travel, along with equity in competition.

On paper, a district format is the fairest way to go with geographic proximity to one another and relatively equal enrollment. But, that won’t always be the case.

Schools that don’t have a close proximity to teams their size will be forced to travel longer distances than they do know. And, even though teams will be classed by enrollment, there will be some huge mismatches, especially in the Chicago area.

Lost are long-standing conference rivalries. If you are 2A and your biggest league rival is 3A, the only way you could ever play is in the two allotted non-conference games, which have no bearing on the play-

offs.

The top four teams in the districts will qualify for the post season. It’s a fairly simple concept that has been used by a number of other states for years.

Locally, Oregon was one of the schools voting in favor of districts.

As the smallest school in the BNC, they have been at a competitive disadvantage in football.

Their chances of making the playoffs will increase. With the way the districts look to shake out, Oregon will also have the good fortune of being with seven other programs that have solid community support.

Not every school will be that fortunate. It’s the luck of the draw where you end up at. There will be some unfavorable districts in terms of travel, bad programs and competitive disparity.

At the moment, football districts are being highly debated in every corner of the state by fans, coaches, media, players, parents, officials and just about everyone with a connection to the sport.

Indeed, it is one the most monumental decisions ever within the IHSA framework, on par with the decision to go from one class in basketball to two in 1972.

There are far too many pros and cons to discuss. Let’s keep it simple and see what happens between now and 2021 when districts take effect.

Will some teams drop co-ops, add co-ops, go to 8-man, etc? Could we see beleaguered Chicago public league programs opt out of districts and play in their own conference without playoff consideration?

My high school time cut across two years prior to the playoffs and the first two years (1974 & 75) of them. What I remember is that conferences still actually meant something and there was pride in being a league champ. The playoffs were simply an added bonus.

But, those were simpler times.

Maybe what is going nowadays with all the consternation connected to high school football is a reflection upon society.

Nobody ever seems content with their lot in life. So, we constantly makes changes to appease society and things seemingly get worse.

Will districts be an improvement?

I guess it depends on how it affects your particular school or team.

Rather selfish to take that approach, but that’s where we’re at in today’s world of high-school sports.

Holidays can be challenging to those who are grieving person.

For those who are grieving, painful feelings during the holidays are normal.

Rather than place unrealistic expectations on themselves to do things the way they always have, grievers should lower expectations for themselves.

While it may feel insincere if you try to force feelings of happiness and joy, do allow yourself to have fun.

Loss teaches us more than any-

thing about the preciousness of life and not to take it for granted.

We can also allow the holidays to be opportunities for memory, legacy, honor, connection, and healing.

Expressing feelings and revisiting memories can be part of the healing process.

Some suggestions for honoring lost loved ones might include: • Draw pictures or make cards of favorite holiday memories with the deceased.

• Create a special ornament to hang on the tree or doorway.

• Write a holiday letter to the deceased and place it in a special place either wrapped as a present under the tree or tied with a bow and placed next to their picture.

• Place a picture of the deceased at the dinner table with a candle so they are part of the holiday feast.

• Cook a favorite dish or dessert

SAFETY REMINDER

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White reminds motorists who are celebrating during the holiday season to drive safely by not driving impaired or distracted.

“Drunk and impaired driving causes death and injury on our roadways every year during the holidays,” White said. “Let’s keep the roads safe for our loved ones and others by driving sober and making sure we don’t drive distracted.”

In 2017, from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day, four of the 11 driving fatalities (36 percent) were alcohol-related in Illinois, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

In 2017, four of the six fatalities (66 percent) were alcohol-related from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day in Illinois, according to IDOT. In 2016, 29,528 DUI arrests were recorded by the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office.

Eighty-six percent of all drivers arrested for DUI are first-time offenders, according to White’s office.

White suggests that those drinking during celebrations take public transportation, a cab or a ride-sharing service or designate a sober driver.

White also reminds everyone to use safety belts and avoid driving while distracted, with a special emphasis on not texting while driving.

OGLE COUNTY SHERIFF Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reports the following arrests.

Dec. 18 Remal Walker, 28, of Rockford, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. He appeared in court and was given a full cash bond of $1,338. He was released after posting bond pending a court appearance.

Karen Dille, 44, of Peru, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant.

She posted the $521 full cash bond and was released with no further court date.

Dec. 21 Deputies, the Rochelle Fire Department, and the Rochelle Ambulance responded at 6:35 a.m. to a two-vehicle roll over accident on Interstate 39 mile marker 99 northbound.

A northbound car driven by Conner M. Rylatt, 24, of Boulder, Colorado was attempting to pass a northbound semi tractor-trailer driven by Troy L. Hooks, 57, of Plainfield, Wisconsin.

The car went out of control and struck the trailer, causing the car to cross over to the southbound side and roll over into the west side ditch coming to a stop on its roof.

Rylatt refused medical attention.

Hooks was not injured.

Rylatt was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Deputies along with Byron Fire and EMS responded at 6:15 p.m. to the 6000 block of North Deer Path Lane in rural Byron for the report of a one-vehicle crash.

Their investigation indicated that a vehicle driven by Melissa Speers, 33, of Mt. Morris, was northbound on Deer Path Lane when it drove off of the roadway striking a parked pickup truck before then striking a tree and coming to rest.

Speers was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident, improper lane usage, and driving on the shoulder.

Speers was issued an I-bond with a court date of Jan. 16.

She transported to Rockford Memorial

Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Dec. 23 Billy Byvick, of Stillman Valley, was arrested for domestic battery and on an outstanding Lee County warrant after a domestic disturbance at 8449 Meadowlark Lane, Stillman Valley.

She was transported to the Ogle County Jail where she will be held until she can be brought before a judge.

Also arrested at this location was Christopher Byvick, of Stillman Valley, for violation of an order of protection.

He was also transported to the Ogle County Jail and will be held until he can be brought before a judge.

Illinois State Police assisted in the investigation.

OBITUARY DOROTHY I. SEURING Dorothy Irene Seuring, 100, of Baileyville, died on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at Liberty Village.

She was born on Jan. 5, 1918, in Winslow, to Clarence and Phebe (Reck) Wales and graduated from Winslow High School in 1936.

She married Irvin Seuring on Aug. 10, 1946. He died April 15, 2017.

Dorothy tested cream at a local cheese factory and worked as a housekeeper.

She worked at Burgess Battery during World War II before marriage and then became a farm/house wife.

She and Irvin farmed in Florence Station before moving back to the home farm in Baileyville.

She was a member of the Florence

United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for 25 years and as a Sunday school teacher.

Dorothy was active in her children’s school functions along with the parent teacher association.

She was also a 70-year member of Silver Creek Home Extension.

She enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards, gardening and canning, baking, cooking and in later years reading.

Surviving are her son, Rodney (Karen) Seuring, of Baileyville; daughter, Teresa (Chad) Hageman, of Caledonia; stepson, Gene (Patricia) Seuring, of Rockford; grandchild, Adam Hageman, of Chicago; step-grandchildren, Douglas (Susan) Seuring, of Carmel, Indiana, Michael (Jennifer) Seuring, of Chicago, Wendy (Jon) Ralston, of Denver, Colorado, Kathy Holtze, of Winfield; nine

step-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Myrna Seuring.

Preceding her in death were son, Randall Seuring; husband, Irvin; step-grandson, Steven Seuring; brothers, Ralph and Robert Wales; sisters, Lois Meighan and Letha Leverton.

Services were held Dec. 19 with burial at Cranes Grove Cemetery, Baileyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cranes Grove Cemetery Association, Florence United Methodist Church, or Stephenson County HCE (Home Extension).

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Pastor’s Kathleen Brinkmeier and Joe Warner and Liberty Village Bounce Back program.
