Sauerkraut Days offers weekend of fun Forreston festival will be held August 2-4 Forreston Sauerkraut Days promises a weekend of family fun Aug. 2-4.

“The weekend festivities are a combined effort of the Hometown Days Committee and the American Legion Families,” said committee member Jane Koeller. “The combined effort guarantees a fun weekend for all.”

The weekend kicks off on Friday. Aug. 2 with a beer garden opening at 6 p.m. and DJ Tyler providing the music until 11 p.m.

This year the beer garden will be located on Walnut Avenue.

A dunk tank will be operating all weekend with lots of favorite local individuals.

The dunk tank will be run by four local organizations so take a chance at getting someone wet.

The second annual Kraut Kids 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 6:30 p.m. and the 5K Fun Run/Walk is at 7:30. Both races will start and end at Memorial Park.

Registration forms for the races can be picked up at Green’s Motors or Koeller Forreston Hardware.

Bingo is back this year and the fun begins at 6 p.m.

Capping off Friday night is a Movie in the Park. This year “Legos 2” will be shown on a huge inflatable screen on the east side of the grade school.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy this family favorite. The Hometown Days committee will have concessions available.

Saturday, Aug. 3 starts bright and early at 7 a.m. with Sunrise Yoga at Warnken Park.

Kelcy Moring will lead everyone through some gentle stretching to get the day started.

Saturday is filled with a lot of favorite activities – car show, bingo, Craft and Vendor Fair, Faith Lutheran Bake Sale, Co-ed Softball Tournament, Lions Cheese Sales, Sauerkraut Lunch, and the Lion’s Pork Chop Dinner.

This year additional events have been added that are sure to keep everyone entertained.

The Forreston Firemen’s Association is bringing back water fights. The fun starts at 10 a.m. for the kids. Then at 12 p.m. the big boys and girls go at it with

contests between different fire departments.

A bags tournament begins at noon, with registration at 10 a.m. in the beer garden.

Freeport Humane Society will be at Memorial Park from 12 to 4 p.m. for an adoption event.

Face painting is planned from 1 to 4 p.m., and the Lion’s Pork Chop Dinner will start at 4 p.m. at Memorial Park.

JJ & BO will be on the stage in the beer garden from 4 to 7 p.m. Back Country Roads will take over at 8 p.m. in the beer garden.

Also at 8 p.m. is a new event for the kids – Kids After Dark.

11th Sauerkraut Days Car Show is Aug. 3 The Forreston American Legion Family will sponsor its 11th annual car show as part of the yearly Sauerkraut Days on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Forreston’s Memorial Park.

More than 150 cars and motorcycles are expected during the daylong show.

Dash plaques will be given to the

first 100 entries, and door prizes will be given out during the day.

Sauerkraut lunches will be served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The cost of a lunch is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 7-12.

The lunch includes a brat or hot dog (with or without sauerkraut topping), a bag of chips, and a can of pop.

Music will be provided by 3D Sound.

Trophies for the car and bike show will be awarded at 3 p.m.

The Forrestville Valley School District recently honored two staff members.

Michael McClellan was named Teacher of the Year, and Jim Hillman was chosen as Outstanding Support Staff Member of the Year.

McClellan is a high school science and Project Lead The Way teacher, as well as a coach for Forreston High School’s football, basketball, and baseball teams.

According to a press release from district officials, during his tenure McClellan has developed positive relationships with the staff, students, and community members of the school district, while holding his students and himself to the highest expectations.

He has demonstrated the ability to make connections with students from all areas, making sure to provide multiple opportunities for students to get involved in science and engineering career explorations and activities.

He continued to serve as a threesport coach working as an assistant coach in football and basketball, along with being the head coach of baseball.

Ogle County official to make unique career change

BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com A veteran Ogle County official is making a drastic career change in just over a month.

Planning & Zoning Administrator Mike Reibel, 51, of Byron, will leave his post on Aug. 30 after 25 years to become a Lutheran minister.

Reibel said the idea enter the ministry isn’t new — it’s something he has been considering for 20 years.

“I felt the call to the ministry both internally and externally,” he said. “Many people have encouraged me. The Holy Spirit is leading me to pursue this call.”

Reibel will attend Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, to obtain a Masters in Divinity degree with the goal of being an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

While earning his four-year degree, he will serve as the part-time vicar at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark.

The course is offered online, which is one of the reasons he and his wife Bridget decided the time was right.

He has served for several years as a lay minister at All Saints Lutheran Church, Byron.

“It’s a little scary and intimidating,” Reibel admitted with a grin. “Improvise, adapt, and

Reibel started working in the zoning office on Jan. 1, 1992 as assistant zoning administrator under Ben Reints.

He took over as administrator in 1994 after Reints’ death.

After studying geography, biology, and natural resources in college, Reibel became interested in his current career when he attended a zoning meeting while he was in college.

“I thought it would be nice to made a difference to a community through planning and zoning,” he said. “It has challenges — you never know what’s coming next. There’s always something new coming, and that’s what keeps it interesting,” Working close to home was also important to him.

“I like making a positive impact for the future in the county I grew up in,” he said.

He said he has enjoyed working with other county officials as well as the residents.

“I’ve got to know so many people throughout the county. Building those relationships has been meaningful,” he said.

The county board accepted Reibel’s resignation at its May 21 meeting and are seeking a replacement for him.

“I feel like I’ve been blessed to live and work in Ogle County,” Reibel said. “I hope to leave the county in good hands.”

Fair board president Harlan Holm said the service was added for the convenience of fair-goers.

“Hopefully it will leave a little more cash for them to buy food and other items at the fair,” he said.

Indivisible chapter joins Lights for Liberty vigil

BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com About a dozen members of Indivisible: Oregon/Mt. Morris joined hundreds of others July 12 as part of a nationwide protest over the treatment of migrants.

The group held signs and marched along Illinois 64 in Mt. Morris in the early evening to do their part for Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps, an event geared to particularly bring attention to conditions at detention facilities at the U.S.-Mexico border and to advocate for changes to this nation’s immigration policy.

Similar events were planned around the U.S., as well as other nations.

“Anyone who acknowledges the Creator recognizes hospitality as an imperative,” said marcher Steven Opalka. “Failure to provide hospitality is a transgression.”

The sign he was carrying read, “More plates, not locked gates.”

Another participant Glen Majewski said he teaches immigrant children.

“It breaks my heart that these children would be taken away from their

families and locked in cages. It’s evil and it’s wrong,” he said.

“We’re all outraged about what’s going on at detention centers,” said Mary Francis, a member of Indivisible.

Julie Mastny, another participant, said she hopes legislators will put politics aside and take action.

“We want our representatives to come together and figure this out,” she said.

The marchers drew mixed reactions from passing motorists. Some honked and gave them the thumbs up.

Others were not so supportive and at least one yelled profanities from his vehicle.

According to the Liberty Vigil website, vigils were planned in hundreds of cities. Big cities and small towns participated, and at least one event was planned in every state in the U.S. as well as five continents.

“We may be the smallest, but we’re not the only one,” said marcher Denise Cheek, a retired elementary teacher.

Locally, a group in DeKalb also participated in the protest.

It’s time to register students for 2019-20 school year The Forrestville Valley School District office is currently accepting completed registration packets for the 2019-20 school year.

The packets and fees may be dropped off or mailed until Tuesday, July 30.

The forms are available online on the district website, http://www. fvdistrict221.org/.

The online portion of registra-

tion must be completed by July 30.

Remember to hit “complete” in the middle of the screen at the end of all of the steps.

School computers will be available in the district office until July 30 and during Walk-In Registration to anyone who has not yet completed the online portion of registration.

Both the online and paper portions of registration must be completed by

July 30 to register a child for the 20192020 school year.

Walk-in registration will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Forreston Junior Senior High School cafeteria for anyone who has not yet turned in the registration packet.

SSET drive for school supplies continues till Aug. 6 It’s time to get S.S.E.T. (Supplying Students Educational Tools) 4 School.

For most kids, this is an exciting time of new clothes and new school supplies.

For other kids, it is a time of anxiety and worrying whether they will have the necessary supplies for school.

Every kid, not only wants, but also deserves new school supplies.

“This is the 16th year that we will make new supplies a reality for kids. This is also the 16th year that we are asking for your help,” said organizer Jane Koeller.

Collection bins will be located at the Bertolet Memorial Library in Leaf River, the German American Bank in German Valley, Koeller Forreston Hardware and the Forreston Public Library in Forreston.

The supplies will be collected

through Tuesday, Aug. 6.

All supplies are welcome, but the greatest need is for the following items: spiral notebooks, two-pocket folders, loose-leaf notebook paper, glue, colored pencils, crayons, and markers.

New and gently used backpacks will also be accepted.

The supplies will be distributed to any family, in the Forrestville Valley School District, that quali-

fies for the free or reduced lunch program.

Editor’s note: Otto Dick, Oregon, has researched the people, places, and events important in the Oregon area’s history for the Ogle County Historical Society. The following is one of a series of the articles he has written.

In 1876 he served as a judge in the circuit court for Ogle County.

In 1891 he was elected and assigned to the Second District of the Appellate Court located at Ottawa.

Finally in 1895 he was elected to the Illinois Supreme Court, serving 19 years.

Memorial services were held at the Illinois Supreme Court on Oct. 16, 1924 honoring the life of Judge James H. Cartwright, deceased.

Former Illinois governors Frank O. Lowden, Joseph W. Fifer, Richard Yates, Charles S. Deneen, and Edward F. Dunne wrote the memorials.

Frank O. Lowden said, “On Nov. 26, 1873, Judge Cartwright was married to Hattie L. Holmes, of Oregon, Illinois. Six children were born of this marriage, five of whom survive him, two sons and three daughters.”

The Cartwright farm, “Springvale,” consisting of 360 acres is now the Mongan Etnyre Subdivision, located across the river from Black Hawk.

The farm was devoted to the production of race horses — pacers and trotters.

The judge owned a summer home setting near the Knox Spring. This spring was named in honor of Joseph Knox, who built the first jail in Oregon.

Cartwright Lane, a main street

through the subdivision, was the original road to the stables and summer home.

The most outstanding horse at Springvale was Citation, who raced during the early 1900s.

She was named the world’s champion mare of 1907 and 1908. She set a world record with a time of 2.01 ¾.

One account reads the judge was very proud of Citation, burying her in their family plot.

When driving by his home at 302 S. Third St., remember his amazing story.

Born in the Iowa Territory, son of a Methodist circuit rider, served in the Civil War, attended the University of Michigan Law School, Oregon mayor for two terms, lived in several log cabins, attended Rock River Academy in Mt. Morris, and taught in a country school.

He endured the hardships of frontier life and became the Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court.

His footprint reveals an amazing story.

Judge James Henry Cartwright left his footprint at 302 S. Third St. An article in the Oregon paper read, “The new frame house of Capt.

Cartwright is one of the finest in Oregon. It has a comfortable bath room, in which may be had hot and cold water.

Verily Third Street is becoming the resident street par excellence of Oregon.”

James was born in the Iowa Territory on Dec. 1, 1842.

His father Barton Hall Cartwrigtht was a circuit rider Methodist minister.

Moving to Ogle County, his father continued his services as a circuit rider, first living in LaFayette Grove and in 1850 the family moved to Mt. Morris.

After living in several log houses they now lived in their first frame home.

Here James attended grammar school and later attended Rock River Seminary.

This seminary played an important part in the history of this area.

He was unable to finish his schooling at the seminary, lacking funding. He then taught at a nearby country school.

When the Civil War broke out, Cartwright enlisted in the first regiment of the 69th Illinois.

His father also joined the Civil War as a chaplin under Gen. William T. Sherman.

In 1864, young Cartwright re-enlisted, this time in the 140th Illinois Infantry.

He was elected captain of the company.

After the Civil War, he studied law at the University of Michigan.

He received his law degree in 1876 and returned to his home at Mt. Morris.

The early years of his practice were in Oregon. He became the attorney for the Chicago and Iowa

“As a singer, guitarist, bandleader, film actor, songwriter, and humorist, he may be RootsRock’s only true Renaissance man,” Ubben said.

Wilder’s engaging personality led him to become one of America’s first Satellite DJs on XM Radio. He’s now the host of the Americana Countdown show on WMOT radio/Nashville.

Butterfly festival July 27 at Elkhorn Creek preserve

The Northwest Illinois Audubon Society will host its annual Elkhorn Creek Butterfly Festival on Saturday, July 27 from 1 to 5 p.m.

This fun, informative, family-friendly afternoon will be spent exploring the Elkhorn Creek Biodiversity Preserve for the many butterflies found at this site.

The preserve is three miles southwest of Forreston on the southwest corner of West Grove and Freeport Roads.

Participants may join guided butterfly tours or look on their own.

Tours begin at 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m.

To date, butterfly explorers have

identified 34 species of butterflies and skippers.

Information about pollinators will be shared. A shady area will be provided with chairs and a restroom, cold beverages, and snacks.

Park in the lot off West Grove Road.

No fee will be charged to participate, and registration is not necessary.

Take a chance to win 65� TV and help raise funds for horse barn The Ogle County Horse Barn Committee will sell raffle tickets for a 65-inch TV at its Build-aBarn booth on the Ogle County Fairgrounds during the fair July 31 through Aug. 4.

The drawing for the TV, donated by Exelon Generation, will be held on Oct. 13 during the committee’s Spooktacular Horse Expo, a two-day event at the fairgrounds. Another donor has issued a Matching Funds Challenge for the barn. This donor will match dollar for dollar up to $2,000, for all donations made during the 2019 Ogle County Fair. Many donors have sponsored events and classes in horse shows. The third annual Build-A-Barn

Ogle County Fair Show will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4 beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a full schedule of halter, performance, and speed classes.

Classes for draft horses and mini horses have been included this year. The Build-A-Barn committee is raising funds to build an exhibition horse barn at the fairgrounds. The barn and arena will be available for rent for various horse activities, which, in turn, will attract more people to the area, potentially bringing increased revenue for local merchants.

Ecology classes offered at White Pines State Park Sign up now for these classes offered by the UofI Extension Ecology is the science that studies the interactions and relationships that exist among living organisms and their environment.

A class studying those interactions is being offered by the University of Illinois Extension at White Pines State Park in August, September, October and November.

The goal for this class is to introduce, or reintroduce some key parts to ecology and use specific skills to reach conclusions in a field setting.

Skills such as observation, describing, generalizing to create a theory, inferring, concluding, classifying and of course measuring are all part of our everyday life but we will take it back to more of a science skill focus.

The concept of ecology is based on three major ideas: 1. Ecology of nutrition is the interaction between producers and consumers.

2. The cyclic flow of matter

through the planet’s environments such as water, carbon, and nitrogen along with others are recycled over and over again.

3. Energy keeps those cycles going.

All energy comes to the planet from the sun and leaves the planet in the form of heat.

Any changes or interruptions, natural or man-made, to these patterns or relationships can alter life on the planet.

It is important to understand the relationships of our natural areas, such as a conservation area, so we can relate larger scale situations in a scientific way with sound support.

The class will be held on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, on Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 14, and Nov. 4. The cost is $5.

It was so, so, so fun!” Cherie Dietrich Lewison Dietrich said July 7 after all the Mt. Morris High School Class of 1969 50th reunion activities were over and everyone was headed home.

This was only one of the many excited comments made by classmates after having a such a great time.

The class of ‘69 celebrated years of memories from when they attended Mt. Morris Elementary School, Junior High and the four years at MMHS, 1965 to 1969.

Events began July 3 at the Mt. Morris Moose for the alumni dance.

The few who attended were greeted by a banner proclaiming the 50th reunion of the class of 1969.

Mark Lewis of MEL’S Graphic Designs of MM created the beautiful Mounder class banner which everyone enjoyed during the reunion activities.

July 4 started with the Firemen’s Breakfast cooked by members of Mt. Morris Fire Department at the Mt. Morris Firehouse.

Several classmates met at the station and others attended with family and friends.

As usual the firemen and many volunteers put on a tasty breakfast.

BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com No one was injured in a fire late Tuesday afternoon that destroyed the home of Al Koper at 2589 W. Oregon Trail Rd. With temperatures in the high 80s, firefighters from eight area departments battled the blaze.

Mt. Morris Fire Chief Rob Hough said the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Still at the scene, Hough said that while the cause had not yet been determined the fire had likely started in the attached garage.

Koper and his daughter, and two granddaughters, who also reside in the home, were outside working in the yard when they discovered the fire and called 911.

The Kopers’ 4-H animals were not injured in the blaze.

Forreston High School football coach Kyle Zick won Channel 23’s 23 Sports Ticket’s 2018 - 2019 Coach of the Year beating out other nominees including Judy Krause, Winnebago girls’ basketball; Lacee Sattelberg, Belvidere North cheerleading; and Mike Winters, Harlem boys’ basketball. Zick won the online poll with 590 votes.

Zick surely didn’t disappoint Forreston Cardinal fans in his first season as head coach of the football program as he led the Cardinals to a 12-2 record, including a 44-6 blowout win over Camp Point Central in the Class 1A state championship.

It was Forreston’s third state title in five years, all won at the University of Illinois’ Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

Four games were also nominated for the 23 Sports Ticket’s 2018 - 2019 Game of the Year: Forreston vs. Lena-Winslow, football 1A state semifinals; Hononegah vs. Boylan, girls basketball 4A sectional championship; Dakota vs. Forreston, boys basketball 1Aregional championship; and Byron vs. Oregon, girls soccer 1A regional championship.

The Class 1A state semifinal between Forreston and Lena-Winslow took the title with 604 (58.5%) total votes.

With less than five minutes remaining in the game, the Cardinals returned a punt for a touchdown that decided the end of the game.

July 11 Thomas W. Fiala, 62, of Dixon, was arrested for violation of order of protection. He was held at the Ogle County Jail pending a court appearance.

Deputies and the Lynn-Scott-Rock ambulance responded at 7:05 a.m. to a one-vehicle accident with injuries in the 400 block of North Illinois 251.

A semi-tractor trailer combination driven by Gregory L. Maturo, 63, of Madisonville Kentucky, was northbound when the driver swerved to miss a stopped vehicle in the road at a construction area.

The semi crossed over the southbound lane and struck the embankment on the west side of the road, coming to a stop jack-knifed.

Maturo was treated at the scene by Lynn-Scott-Rock EMS and refused any further treatment.

He was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Michael R. Haas, 40, of Rockford, was arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop in the 2,000 block of North Illinois 2 for a registration violation. He was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

July 12 Ernest Miller, 30, of Leaf River, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. He was released on a recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29.

Mario Pineda, 25, of Rochelle, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. He was released on a recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9.

Samara Goff, 41, of Mt. Morris, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. She was released on a recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29.

July 9 Danny Roos, 63, of Oregon, was arrested for fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer after deputies attempted to stop the truck he was driving in the 4,000 block of North Illinois 2 at 9:20 p.m.

Roos was also issued citations for a non-functional registration light and speeding 15-20 mph over the speed limit. He was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

Joseph L. Grove, 69, of Leaf River, was arrested for disorderly conduct after a domestic disturbance at 9:20 p.m. at 113 N. Main St. in Leaf River.

Grove was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Illinois State Police and the Mt. Morris Police Department.

Ryan Hackbert, 36, of Rockford, was

arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. He posted the $150 full cash bond and was released from the Ogle County Jail with no further court date.

Michel Ndikubwayo, 19, of Rochelle, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. He posted the $275 full cash bond and was released from the Ogle County Jail with no further court date.

Travis Adams, 35, of Rochelle, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. He was released from the Ogle County Jail on a $5,000 recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29.

OBITUARIES DARYL R. CHRISTIANS Daryl Ray Christians, 82, of Mt. Morris, died on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his home.

Daryl was born on May 9, 1937 in Avon, South Dakota, the son of John E. & Jennie G. (Hamminga) Christians.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Roberta J. Murdock on Oct. 14, 1972 in Mt. Morris.

MARIAN E. DAVIS Marian Elizabeth Davis, 96, of Oregon, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Pinecrest Community, Mt. Morris.

Marian was born in Mt. Carroll on Oct. 9, 1922 to Zella (McGinty) and George Keim.

Her family moved to Chicago when she was two years old.

Marian began singing in public when she was four years old and at age 10 she started private singing lessons and making appearances at various churches and other events.

She attended Steinmetz High School in Chicago for one year before the family

MARY A. DAVISON Loving mother and grandmother, Mary Alice Davison, 74, of Oregon, died on Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Serenity Hospice and Home.

She was born Dec. 11, 1944 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Jack and Nina (Nelson) Batten.

She married Orvis Allen “Junior” Davison Jr. on Oct. 12, 1962 in Dallas, Texas.

He preceded her in death on June 16, 1997.

They lived in Savanna for two years before moving to Mt. Carroll.

She started a junior choir, sang in the adult choir, and presented musical programs.

The family moved to Oregon in 1959.

Marian joined the choir at Oregon United Methodist Church, formed a junior choir, and continued giving musi-

cal programs even into her later years.

She continued her love of music at Pinecrest Terrace, often leading songs during activities.

Marian was known as a gracious woman, always stylishly dressed with her hat and looking her best.

She and her husband would have celebrated their 77th anniversary on July 18, 2019.

Survivors include her loving husband, Herbert; sons, Eric R. (Pat) Davis, of Byron, Mark (Barb) Davis, of Oregon, and daughter Sheila Johnson, of Puerto

Vallarta, Mexico; grandchildren Jennifer (Richard) Boyden, Eric Ryan (Velvette) Davis, Peter (Megha Patel) Probst, Danielle Johnson; great-grandchildren Kylan Springman and Suriya Probst.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard Keim and Keith Keim; her sister, Joyce Strength; and granddaughter, Shelley Shelton.

The family wishes to thank all of her wonderful caregivers at Pinecrest Terrace for their professional and compassionate care.

Mary worked for more than 30 years at the Lorado Taft Field Campus as a cook.

She loved to spend time in her flower gardens, feed and watch the humming birds come and go, and play with her dogs.

Mary was a great cook, especially her home baked cinnamon rolls, which she would gener-

ously share.

Mary is survived by her three children, Tracy Andrew Davison, of Juda, Wisconsin, Amy Jo (Paul) Gillingham, of Oregon, and Adam Allen Davison, of Oregon; two granddaughters, Jessica Davison and Lily Gillingham.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Junior; her

half-brothers, Sonny, Buddy, and Jack; and a lifelong friend, Carolyn Saratori.

Funeral service were held on July 12 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon, with the Pastor Dave Rogula officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date at the Washington Grove Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in Mary’s name.

NORMA R. STUFF Norma R. Stuff, 99, of Polo, died on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care.

Norma was born on Jan. 21, 1920, in Polo, the daughter of George and Sadie (Zumdahl) Hammer.

She married Max Stuff on March 11, 1946 in Polo. He preceded her in death in August of 1977.

Norma was a hairstylist for many years

along with a loving and dedicated farmers wife.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening, doing her own yard work, cooking, and baking cookies for many.

Norma continued to ride her bike around Polo till she was 95.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Steve) Knutson, of Polo; grandchildren, Brett (Nicole), Rick, and Kenny (Jana); great-grandchildren Niklas, Emily, Max, Annalise, Gray, and Isla.

She was preceded in death by son, Lance Stuff; sisters, Belva Hammer and Blanche Bloyer; and brother, Maynard Hammer.

Visitation and funeral services were held on July 18 at the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St., Polo.

Burial was immediately following at Fairmount Cemetery, also in Polo.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
