Oregon Park District, Taft offering science, tech classes The Oregon Park District is teaming up with the NIU Lorado Taft Educators to offer a S.T.E.A.M series of classes.

S.T.E.A.M stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. “S.T.E.A.M is poised to transform our economy in the 21st century. This movement is widely adopted by institutions, schools and individuals. This class fits your 3rd-8th graders schedule perfectly,” said Tina Ketter, superintendent of recreation for the park district. “Has your student ever had an interest in examining how to transport an object from one place to another, wondered how to protect a product from break-

Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for courses taken during the term. Those earning academic honors include Allison Bandera, Marissa Gorsegner, and Brooklynn Schelling, all of Oregon; Brix Clayton, Justine Gorzny, and Lana Scholl, all of Polo; Jordan Cone and Brittany Harn, both of Byron, and Mitchell Roedel, of Davis Junction.

Dog training classes in Oregon The Oregon Park District is offering dog training classes at Wiggly Park Dog Park.

Beginner Dog Training is an on-leash obedience class with trainer Bree Pazera. “Bond with your dog while teaching them to be more confident and respectful,” said Tina Ketter, superintendent of recreation. “This class is perfect for dogs just starting out with training.” Each dog handler must be at least 15 years and up. Participants need to bring a 6 foot leash, treats, and a choke or a pinch collar. Dogs must be

at least 6 months of age and the same handler should work with the dog through each class. The class meets each Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at Wiggly Park from May 1-June 5. An orientation will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 6 p.m. The fee for the class is $50 for residents of the Oregon Park District and $60 for non-residents. Registration is at Nash Recreation Center, 304 S. Fifth Street, Oregon, and can also be completed over the phone by calling 815-732-3101. The deadline to register is Wednesday, April 24.
