Kye Smeltzly, 17, of Port Byron, sells bags of sweet corn at the Gibson-Bode parking lot on Walnut St. in Port Byron on July 16. The Smeltzly family has been growing, picking, and selling sweet corn locally for over a decade, with Kye and his dad, two brothers, and two cousins filling three truckloads every morning of the season, which started July 14. They sell in Port Byron as well as Mindfire Communications parking lot in LeClaire, IA from 10 a.m. until sold out. They’re also set up at the Port Byron Farmers’ Market from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Sundays. The cost is $5 for 13 ears of fresh-picked corn.
