Sidewalk, water main bids awarded

The Port Byron board approved a bid for the Illinois Route 84 sidewalk and water main replacement project on March 22.

The project to update the aging High St. infrastructure has been in the works for nearly six years, with work expected to begin this summer.

Miller Trucking & Excavating of Silvis, with the lowest bid of $3,461,240.75, was awarded the IDOT contract. Jared Fluhr with MSA Professional Services said six bids were received, with the winning bid aligned with the village’s projected budget.

The extensive project consists of two parts, the first replacing over a mile of sidewalks, plus new retaining walls, improving storm drains, and meeting ADA sidewalk requirements from the public maintenance building at Quarry St. up to 11th Ave. at Dollar General.

The village will pay half the costs with TIF funds, with State and Federal funding to cover the other half.

The other portion of the project involves replacing some sections of 80-year-old water mains that are breaking more frequently. Mayor Bruce Peterson said about 500 feet of water mains will be replaced along the route. The village and engineers combined both projects since the sidewalks need to be removed to replace the mains, with some federal funding awarded.

The storm sewer additions on the highway could cost the village an additional $250,000.

Fluhr said there was no stormwater drainage in the bidding plans, so a “significant effort and increase in project scope” was mandated by IDOT, with an ultimatum for the Village to address it or lose funding for the project near the public works building. Fluhr noted that the village received additional grants that helped offset the costs.

“It’s a better roadway and the overall project is a win for the village, but who pays for it? The landscaping, plus

grading on village or private property, the State’s going to try and recoup their expenses,” said Peterson.

He added that there’s a tremendous amount of detail and time invested into State highway projects, even for villages as small as Port Byron “There’s a lot of local expense to meet the red tape,” he said.

Trustees argued that the modifications should not be shouldered by the village, with Fluhr stating they’re “not expecting full payment of it” right away and negotiations are ongoing. He said MSA and the village need to position with both IDOT and the village’s interest in mind.

HILLSDALE

Contract with sheriff ’s office is renewed

Nearly two years after switching from village to county police protection, Hillsdale trustees approved another contract with the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office on March 15.

The board reviewed the annual agreement, which had no changes in cost or coverage from the current year. There were some minor changes in wording at the recommendation of their civil attorney.

The board can notify the county 60-90 days ahead of the contract date, if they wish to make any changes. The contract goes into effect May 1.

Trustees also approved the annual budget, with finance chair Joni Reiss reviewing the figures and explaining the changes from last year, since the total

budget was down by about $13,000. The General Fund had a projected income of $240,300, with projected expenses of $239,798; Motor Fuel Tax account had a projected income of $30,485 and projected expenses of $30,485; and the Sewer account had a projected income of $81,300, with projected expenses of $81,300.

The Village Park will be open for public use this year, with the drinking water to be tested prior to turning on the fountain. For events at the park, residents are encouraged to call the Village Hall and reserve the pavilion and/or ball field at 309-658-2433.

The board also discussed having an annual village wide clean-up day sometime in May, with details to be worked out with Conrad Disposal. They will also plan for an electronic waste pick up day sometime this summer.

In other action, the board: • Hired Freelance Landscape to weedeat ditches in town at $380 per time.

• Hired John Lundquist to mow village-owned properties for $450 per time.

• Ratified the hiring of Chad Tanner as the village’s part-time maintenance employee with a start date of March 8.

• Hired Shaun Meier to do the mosquito spraying in town again this year.

• Approved up to $700 to be spent on town flowers.

• Agreed to set up a Village of Hillsdale Facebook page, with Mayor T.J. Francis, trustee Amy Myrtue and Village Clerk Jane Lundquist to be administrators.

The social media platform will provide public information such as ordinances, elections, road work, and events.

• Renewed two Certificate of Deposits at Farmers National Bank.

BY SARAH FORD For Shaw Media It’s only been about two weeks since an audaciously bold plan was revealed by Living Lands & Waters founder Chad Pregracke, but the buzz is still building.

The Quad Cities visionary and team announced an exciting vision for the future of the Interstate 80 bridge during a livestream event on March 18 and the initiative is going strong on social media platforms.

The plan is to save the old I-80 bridge and repurpose it into a National Park to be enjoyed by locals, tourists, and bison, while making the longest manmade wildlife crossing in the world.

Intrigued citizens immediately weighed in on the iconic proposal, showing support by adding Bison Bridge photo frames on social media, discussing the pros and cons of such a proposal, and dreaming of a national landmark that would put the region on the map.

Even “Dirty Jobs” host Mike Rowe shared the project to his 5+ million followers.

“It’s not a tax funded thing, but he’s got to convince the powers that be to get on board with permits and permissions and so forth. Give it a look, and if you think it’s worthwhile, leave your name behind,” Rowe wrote.

The plan may seem impossible, or like Pregracke told the viewers “outside the box big thinking.” Many questions need to be answered, pieces need to fall in place, the bureaucratic process needs to play out, and the people get involved in the simplest of ways – by signing a petition at bisonbridge.org.

The foundation hopes to collect 50,000 signatures to help move the plan forward.

Pregracke said that momentum can be found in getting people onboard with the same vision.

Of course, there’s the possibility of the plan falling through if the Iowa Department of Transportation decides to build a new bridge on the same site. But if the agency chooses another bridge site, the idea can grow - it’s all part of the necessary process.

And say the power of the peoples’ voices works and the project is given a green light – what could we expect? Pregracke and his team envision a repurposed bridge with various potentials – a visitor’s center that could host events, plus trails, wildlife, a spectacular view of the river, even hippies and music, Pregracke joked.

With 130 acres of bridge and offramp space to work with, the bridge could loop the QC trails and provide a spectacular view of the river val-

ley, from a new point of view.

“We’re not building a bridge, it’s already there,” Pregracke said, adding that the other option is to blow it up and spend millions in demolition costs.

The concrete and steel bridge built in the 1960s is threatened by road salt and vibrations, he added, and not so much by the weight.

“We got an idea and that’s how it starts. People will stop. The real deal is the Mississippi River. This is an opportunity to bring the community together for a big project,” said Pregracke of the I-80 crossroads of the Midwest.

The proposed bison on the bridge has raised eyebrows, with Pregracke stating it would be a small herd of less than 10.

Odell Library Board of Trustee Odell Publ ic Lib rar y has teamed up with more than 70 libraries to offer a virtual program with John Sandford, the best-selling author of the “Books of Prey,” on Tuesday, April 13, at 7 p.m.

For those who eagerly await each new book, this is an opportunity to sit down at home and listen to Sandford discuss his books and entice with his soon-to-be-released

The project proposal was revealed as plans are underway to replace the current bridge, though it’s in the early stages. There needs to be environmental impact, traffic, and structural integrity studies, plus all transportation planning meetings within the next five years.

By presenting alternatives at this stage, Pregracke is hoping the people can influence the process.

As for the question of cost, Pregracke was adamant it would be privately funded, even hinting that substantial donations are ready to go. Or they could also sell bricks, he said with a laugh.

The National Park designation is a goal of the project, with a mention of the 62 acres of the St. Louis Arch National Park as an example of what can be done. But a focus on saving the bridge from doom is the first step of the process.

The Bison Bridge Foundation has been launched for the purpose of repurposing the I-80 bridge, with plans to advocate for support at the local, state, and federal levels.

They’ll be engaging with community leaders, local elected officials, business owners, and stakeholders all over the country, according to the website.

The Bison Bridge is a concept like no other currently in the United States, and potential success relies on people getting excited, sharing the word, and signing the petition.

“This is the only place in the world that we can make this happen,” Pregracke concluded.

What have we learned after one year of COVID-19?

BY STEPHEN D. HARRISON, M.D. Most of us would view this past year as one big blur. Our perspective of everything has been, from time to how we approach our business.

It is a humbling opportunity to remind us how we are all in this together. When one suffers, we all do.

It is also an opportunity for us to blend our best science with our best faith to move forward for the next crisis that may occur. Indeed, just as this pandemic was predicted, so too will there be another one.

We must keep in mind that our vigilance will wain the longer the interval, along with the number of times we sound an alarm but do not have a significant condition. That is human nature.

Not everyone had the same outcome with this devastating disease. Not every geographical area had the same outcome. What were the common features of success and what were the common features of failure?

The areas that took the condition seriously by social distancing and masking did far better than areas that did not. Several countries shamed the United States with these simple measures. Prop-

OBITUARIES DONALD H. WARD PROPHETSTOWN – Donald H. Ward, 94, of Prophetstown, died Friday, March 26, 2021, at Allure of Prophetstown, Prophetstown.

There will be no funeral service or visitation. A graveside service was held March 30 at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.

The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home of Prophetstown is in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial has been established by the family.

Don was born on May 31, 1926, in Morrison to Jay H. and Susie M. (Hart) Ward Sr. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison.

Don married Irene E. Oetzel on April 16, 1950 in Prophetstown. She died on Aug. 9, 1999. Don grew up on the family farm in Morrison. He then farmed in the Prophetstown area his entire life.

Don was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church, the Whiteside County Farm Bureau and

The overwhelming majority of older people survived. In fact, the majority of any category survived. Children tended to have less severe consequences, though there were clear exceptions.

As we speak, the bad statistics are on the decline. Many factors have been cited including herd immunity that appears more prevalent than previously thought.

The vaccine has helped. Collectively the vaccines are 99.99% effective in preventing serious diseases just as smallpox and polio vaccines were. Extreme life threatening response to the vaccine was less than one per 200,000.

While the threat of variants looms on the horizon, those variants seem reasonably well contained.

The same social forces that tamed the original, the same science and faith can contain them as well. The same ignorance and fear can let them proliferate to the point of equal or worse destruction.

DORIS ‘JUDY’ BULL EAST MOLINE – Doris “Judy” Bull, 88, of Park Vista in East Moline, formerly of Port Byron, died Monday, March 22, 2021 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Services were Wednesday, March 24, at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will in Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Judy was born Nov. 5, 1932 in Hiteman, Iowa, the daughter of James and Ruth (Morgan) Barker. She married Earl Bull on July 3, 1952 at the Port Byron Methodist Church. Judy worked with her husband at the Bull Chiropractic Clinic for many years until retirement.

Judy and Earl enjoyed many things together, most especially attending political events, and also dancing. She loved being a mom and raising her family, spending time with her babies and Christmas time with everyone. Later in life Judy enjoyed playing cards and games with her friends at Park Vista.

Judy and Earl raised four children, David (Gretchen) Bull of Morrison, and their children, David (Kacy) Bull, and Meghan Volkert; Karen Sharp (deceased), and her children, Joshua and Daniel Cox; Lori (Thomas) Calvert of Cleveland, Tennessee, and their children, Justin (Brittany) Calvert, and Jesse (Autumn) Calvert; and Lisa (Greg) Jones of Port Byron, and their children, Amanda (Richie) Ford, Michael Neer, Erika (Chad) Ray, Alex Jones, and Nayte Jones.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Reagan, Bracken, Stella, Grayson, Logan, Derek, Livia, Carter, Vincent, Victor, Brody, Remi, Callan, Cylah, Carsyn, Gavin, and Avery; and also her sister, Sara (Frank) Fenno of Colona.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Karen; and a brother, Jim Barker Jr.

ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ A. MACLEOD FULTON – Elizabeth “Betty” A. MacLeod, 69, of Fulton, died Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.

Services were March 25, at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton.

Interment was at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Fulton.

The rose petals are placed on the individual before going through the doors of Resthave a final time.

The funeral home returns the quilt to Resthave so that it may be used to honor another person.

In the past, the River Cities Quilter’s Guild has donated a male and female Journey Quilt to Resthave Care and Rehabilitation, 408 Maple Ave., Morrison.

To honor veterans of Resthave on their final procession, the guild has donated a Valor Journey Quilt.

When a resident dies at Resthave, the funeral home places one of these three quilts on the individual before they leave their room. Staff and residents are notified by the ringing of chimes three times. The chimes are an invitation to participate in a farewell procession to say their goodbyes

Whiteside County Drug Court approved for recertification

Director, Whiteside County Court Services “My life will be forever changed because of the drug court program.”

Those were the recent words of Shandra, a 2018 graduate of the Whiteside County Drug Court program.

Last month, the Whiteside County Drug Court was approved for recertification by the Illinois Supreme Court.

There are more than 100 problem-solving courts in Illinois, with the vast majority being drug courts. Others are known as mental health, veterans, family and DUI courts. Although in existence less than seven years, the Whiteside County Drug Court became one of the first problem-solving courts to attain both certification and recertification.

Certifications involve compliance with state problem-solving court guidelines, with periodic formal reviews overseen by the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts.

The Whiteside County Drug Court exists in large part because of the foundation set by (now retired) Circuit Judge John Hauptman, the county’s first drug court judge (2014-2016), and Circuit Judge Trish “Joyce” Senneff, who as state’s attorney garnered support from local criminal justice personnel.

The program allowed me the time I needed to work on myself and helped me find the resources I needed to get on the right path. Don’t get me wrong. I struggled at points along the way, but the amount of support from the team and other participants helped me persevere through the tough times.”

Shandra, 2018 graduate of the Whiteside County Drug Court program Upon Judge Hauptman’s retirement, Circuit Judge Stanley Steines became the drug court judge, assuring a smooth transition and ongoing stability.

Drug court team members consist of the judge, two probation officers, treatment providers, the drug court coordinator and representatives from the state’s attorney’s, public defender and sheriff’s offices.

The team represents an array of roles, expertise and opinions. Each week, they provide updates to Judge Steines before any court hearing. The goal is to provide a nonadversarial approach by collectively doing what is best for each participant.

The drug court program is rigorous and lasts generally about 18 to 24 months. Participants must volunteer, but many are facing the alternative, harsh reality of a prison sentence.

Each participant must undergo ex-

tensive assessment to ensure they are appropriate candidates. All of the participants have faced years, even decades, of daunting substance abuse addictions not easily overcome.

After consulting with their attorneys, participants enter into an agreement to abide by the guidelines. During their time in the program, each will encounter incentives and sanctions that match the success and/or setbacks of their behavior.

Initially, all participants are required to appear in court weekly, but as they progress in the program, court appearances are tapered until graduation.

Most participants convey that the battle with addictions is a lifelong struggle and drug court is by no means a cure.

Many start down the spiraling road of addictions by their mid-teens.

Shandra was no exception.

“I was in active addiction for so long

that my life was in a constant circle of negative actions and consequences.”

Drug court can serve as a solid foundation for living a sober lifestyle and becoming a productive citizen.

Healthy community activities are emphasized. Drug court officers will plan sober lifestyle events, such as picnics and holiday parties, where team members can interact informally with participants and their families.

“The program allowed me the time I needed to work on myself and helped me find the resources I needed to get on the right path,” Shandra said. “Don’t get me wrong. I struggled at points along the way, but the amount of support from the team and other participants helped me persevere through the tough times.”

Since 2014, 28 participants have completed the program successfully, including two military veterans. Many participants will maintain contact with the drug court officers, treatment providers and other team members for ongoing support long after their obligation to the court has ended.

“Today, my life has never been this good,” Shandra said. “I have a job that I love. I’m involved in my community. I have a new relationship with my family.

I am showing up in my life as the best version of myself.”

Erie chapter of NHS hosts in-person induction

The Erie High School National Honor Society chapter patiently waited this school year, hoping to have its annual induction ceremony in person.

March 16 saw the reality of inducting 13 of the 15 members accepted into the chapter. Unfortunately, one member was sick and one was quarantined.

Inducted were Erin Ashdown, Riley Packer, Parker Holldorf, Ema Huizenga, Bryce Jepson, Aylah Jones, Hannah Kirkpatrick, Kate McConnell, Mikayla Morrissey, Brianna Neumiller, Hannah Neumiller, Bryce VanDeWostine, Taylor Wilson, McKenzie Winckler and Noah Wiseley.

Holldorf and Kirkpatrick will give their speeches at a future NHS meeting.

After the processional, president Grace Johnson welcomed the group and lit the candle of knowledge. She gave a brief history of NHS, which was built in 1921 by a group of secondary principals to recognize the accomplishments of students with strong academics, leadership, good character and service completed by students in their

Superintendent Chuck Milem addressed the group. Mya Jones and Carter Jepson spoke on two of the pillars of NHS. The inductees came forward when called by secretary Ella Heyvaert to

give a 1-minute speech on a characteristic they personally valued. Speeches ranged from empathy, compassion and courage to confidence, loyalty and trust. After their speech, each new inductee received the NHS stole from treasurer Chloe Wiseley, signed the

chapter membership book and received their certificate of membership.

The final item on the program was the candle lighting ceremony and the repeating of the NHS pledge.

A reception was held for the inductees and their families.

The pump motor failed at the main well once again. Residents were issued a boil order. Last fall, the pump went down and was repaired. Public Works Director Randy Balk had no idea why the pump failed in such a short time. Repair costs probably will reach $40,000.

Fulton’s streetscape revitalization started when Leslie Electric began taking down light poles on Main Street to begin refurbishing them. The project is part of the downtown revitalization grant awarded to the city of Fulton and the Fulton Chamber of Commerce. The poles will be done in a burgundy color

Revitalize Erie’s Easter Scavenger Hunt takes place Revitalize Erie celebrated the spring season by having an Easter Scavenger Hunt around town March 20.

Taking part in the hunt at 21 stops around Erie were 220 kids.

There were 33 volunteers helping with the fun activities.

Local businesses donated treats, prizes and places to play games, with businesses in the triangle and beyond filled with children and their families on the first day of spring.

Revitalize Erie volunteers also gathered the wishes of children for delivery to the Easter Bunny.

Fulton Police Report

The Fulton Police Department reported the following police arrests and citations.

March 13 Terry L. Fife Jr. of Clinton, Iowa, was arrested for operating a vehicle with expired registration, driving while license is suspended and operating an uninsured vehicle in the 800 block of 18th Avenue. He was released with a notice to appear.

Jason C. Huling of Camanche, Iowa, was cited for speeding at Route 84 and 31st Avenue. He was released with a promise to comply.

March 14 Robert J. McGee of Fulton was cited for disobeying a stop sign in the 400 block of 11th Avenue. He was released with a promise to comply.

Anjel A. Nichols of Clinton, Iowa, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of a stolen vehicle in the 1300 block of 17th Street. She was taken to the Whiteside County Jail.

Individuals named in this report have been accused of a charge. They are presumed innocent until proved guilty.

Morrison Police Report March 19

About 11:35 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Eric R. Losik, 27, of Mt. Carroll, in the 400 block of East Lincolnway for a moving violation.

As a result of the stop, Losik was issued a warning citation for improper lane use. Losik also was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol. Losik was taken to the Whiteside County Jail, was processed and released with a notice to appear.

March 20 About 3:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Nicholas N. Schultheis, 36 of Sterling, in the 100 block of West Lincolnway for an equipment violation.

As a result of the stop, Schultheis was issued a warning citation for obstructed windows (tint) and was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant issued by Stephenson County, charging Schultheis with failure to appear – theft. Schultheis was taken to the Whiteside County Jail.

Senior Baylee Anderson signs to play with Kankakee Cavaliers

In this school year of unique happenings, an Erie High School student added another unique experience.

On March 19, Baylee Anderson signed to play volleyball for the Kankakee Community College Cavaliers.

The college signing was unusual because it occurred before Anderson stepped on a court to play a competitive match as a senior.

Anderson’s first match was March 20 at home in the Prophetstown gym.

Kankakee volleyball coach Terry Allison was impressed with the game highlights and goals submitted by Anderson to invite her to Kankakee for an open gym practice in November.

During this time, Allison observed Anderson’s skills and introduced her to potential team members.

Anderson said many of the girls will be returning to the Region IV NJCAA school in the fall. She enjoyed the experience and hopes to play defensive specialist.

Anderson has always wanted to play at the college level. With two older brothers, she learned how to play hard and take spills on the volleyball and basketball courts and jump back up to play some more.

Anderson said she watched a lot of volleyball over the years and thought that digging the ball was impressive, but she also realized that she didn’t have the body type for that skill, so she started looking at other positions that she could play.

Panthers coach Heather Bruns said Anderson is not afraid of falling on the

gym floor if that is what it takes to keep the ball in play.

Bruns attributed Anderson’s skill level to a strong dedication, playing club ball, and learning to play new positions. As a junior, Anderson was a setter, but this year she moved to defensive specialist. The move seemed to work well in practices. She can read the ball well and get it to a teammate or get it over the net herself.

Sauk Valley College also approached Anderson, but the college doesn’t offer a physical therapy assistant program, a vocation that Anderson wants to pursue.

Bruns helped Anderson by suggesting colleges and helping edit game films into a video of her highlights.

In the end, it was Anderson herself who did the work for Kankakee’s consideration. After the November visit, she felt the Cavaliers were her future team.

Being in Region IV, Anderson will play against Sauk Valley, so family and friends hopefully can travel to Dixon to see her play.

Anderson said she’s excited for her final high school season to finally start.

For Bruns, Anderson is her third player to sign to play at the college level. The others were Jenna Saad and Jasmine Nickerson.

Attending the signing were Anderson’s mother, Cherie Newton, father, Brad Anderson, stepmother, Sara Anderson, brothers Trey and Brady Anderson, and Panthers teammates.

Kankakee coach Allison was to be at the signing, but he alerted Anderson that he was ill and would not be able to attend.

SPORTS ROUNDUP Fulton 45, Orion 14: The Steamers rolled to a win at home, scoring touchdowns via the run, pass and the defense.

Fulton led 17-0 at halftime after a 1-yard TD run, a 32-yard TD pass,m and a 30-yard field goal. The Steamers than added TD runs of 13, 41 and 51 yards, as well as a 40-yard pick-six in the second half.

Rockridge 34, Morrison 22: The Rockets scored the final 14 points to defeat the Mustangs at Bud Cole Field.

Morrison led 16-14 at halftime after a lightning-quick scoring drive to close the second quarter, then led 22-20 after three quarters before Rockridge rallied.

Kewanee 21, Erie-Prophetstown 14: The Boilermakers scored with 1:04 to go and converted the twopoint conversion to beat the Panthers.

Kewanee took over down by a point with just under two minutes left and went 84 yards in under a minute to win.

After the Boilermakers scored to take a 7-0 lead, Erie-Prophetstown answered with a pair of touchdowns of its own, the second set up by Brody Naftzger intercepting a screen pass and taking it 50 yards to the Kewanee 5. The Panthers cashed in on that drive just before halftime.

As a result of the traffic stop, Workman was issued a warning citation for no valid registration and was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis (30 to 100 grams – Class A misdemeanor). Workman was taken to the Whiteside County Jail, was processed and released on a notice to appear.

March 25 About 3:21 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Jeremy S. Wagner, 41, of Morrison, in the 100 block of East Mar-

ket Street for an equipment violation.

As a result of the traffic stop, Wagner was issued a warning citation for obstructed windows (tint) and arrested pursuant to two arrest warrants issued by Iowa charging Wagner with violation of probation (both warrants).

During a search of the vehicle as a result of the arrest, numerous tools, power tools, landscaping power tools and other contraband were discovered in the vehicle. Wagner also was charged with unlawful possession of weapons by a felon (Class 3 felony), unlawful use of weapons (Class A misdemeanor), unlawful possession of methamphetamines (Class 3 felony), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor) and theft (Class 3 felony).

A passenger in the vehicle, Seth D. Peterson, 21, of Morrison, was charged with theft (Class 3 felony).

Wagner was taken to the Whiteside

postsecondary education students and institutions.

This funding will not count against a student’s current financial aid, is not required to be paid back, and will not impact their future educational funding.

Morrison United Methodist announces Holy Week services Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, announced its Holy Week services, which will be in the church’s sanctuary (unless otherwise designated) and are open to all: Maundy Thursday, 7 p.m. April 1: The Maundy Thursday service will focus on Scripture readings and hymns related to the Last Supper. Holy Communion will be served. Morrison United Methodist Church’s communion is an open table.

Good Friday prayer time, noon to 3 p.m. April 2: All are invited to come to the Morrison UMC chapel any time between noon and 3 p.m. to pray and reflect on Jesus’ crucifixion.

Sunrise Easter service, 6:30 a.m.

April 4: On Easter Sunday, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus will begin with a half-hour sunrise service.

Emmanuel Reformed Easter Sunday worship This Easter Sunday’s 8:30 a.m. (masks mandatory) and 10 a.m. (masks recommended) worship services will have Pastor Luke Schouten continuing his Lenten message series, “Journey of the Stones” with his final message “He’s Alive!” drawn from John 20: 1-18.

The Sanctuary Choir will sing “Hallelujah Chorus” and “Mercy Tree.” First Sunday will lead the worship set at both services. Ministry Coordinator Rich Criss will be the organist for the service, providing the prelude, interlude and postlude.

Easter Sunday service, 9 a.m. April 4: Morrison UMC’s main Easter Sunday service will be at 9 a.m. The service will feature special vocal music led by Choral Director John Frame, a song by Kids for Christ, Sunday School for the children and a message of hope on the significance of the resurrection.
