• Cookie, candy sale in Prophetstown: The Royal Neighbors are presenting the Prophetstown Area Historical Society’s annual cookie and candy sale. The sale will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 13. Stop in for some homemade treats and see the museum decorated for the holidays.
• Prophetstown library hosts Dungeons & Dragons play: The club meets from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Monday at the Henry C. Adams Memorial Library. This is for anyone ages 10 and older. • Ukelele concert Dec. 10 in Fulton: The
Windmill Volunteer Educators at the Windmill Cultural Center in Fulton are inviting the public to the Dec. 10 Wild Winter Wednesday program. Phil Vernon and the Quad-City Ukulele Club will be performing festive Christmas yules. Playing the ukulele is one of the fastest-growing crazes in the U.S., and the players will get your toes tapping as they play songs of the season. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for coffee, hot cider and mill treats. The program begins about 9:15 a.m. The building is handicapped accessible. The center is located at 111 10th Ave.
• Have breakfast with Santa in Albany: 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Albany United Methodist Church, 502 First Ave. There will be an opportunity to have a photo taken with Santa. Cost is a donation.

Clinton Symphony to perform Dec. 13 at Durgin Performing Arts Center

Clinton Symphony Orchestra’s annual “Holidays with the Symphony” concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in Durgin Performing Arts Center at Clinton High School.
Silas Nathaniel Huff continues his season as the orchestra’s conductor.
This year’s edition features New York City–based soprano Heather Petruzelli, whose versatility spans opera, operetta, musical theater and big-band jazz.
The program will include popular seasonal favorites such as “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “I’ll be Home for Christmas,” “What are You Doing New Year’s Eve,” “O Holy Night” and a traditional singalong.
In addition, the orchestra will play selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” and Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”
The program will include two original compositions by Huff – “Big Brass Swingin’ Christmas” and “The Mouse’s Gift” for narrator and orchestra, with text by Huff’s wife, Taylor Morris, a writer of children’s books.
Parking and easy access to the auditorium is on the south side of the complex, doors C18 and C19.
Admission to the concert is by season ticket or single concert adult ticket available at the door for $20. All students are admitted free, and a student’s adult companion may apply for a half-price ticket at the door.

Erie Public Library to host afternoon of live Christmas music Dec. 11
The Erie Public Library will host an afternoon of live Christmas music with local musician Ron Eckberg at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.
Eckberg will perform classic holiday tunes and tell charming stories. Paired with fresh cookies and an open Wassail bar, it’s an afternoon fit for a Norman Rockwell painting.
Adults are welcome. The Erie Public Library is located at 802 Eighth Ave., Erie.

MORRISON - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Theodore Charles McKee, who died on November 29, 2025, at Morrison Community Hospital at the age of 84. Ted was a devoted husband to his wife of 63 years, Reta (Norman)McKee and loving father to daughters Janet, Karen, and Rhonda (Nick)Alvarado.
Ted was born on January 1, 1941, at Home Hospital in Sterling, Illinois to parents Ruth (Lendman)and Gordon McKee. He was the 2nd oldest of 10 children. He grew up in the Sterling/Rock Falls area and raised Catholic attending mass regularly and served as an altar boy. He attended Catholic schools, proudly graduating from Newman Catholic High School in 1958. Ted excelled in athletics and was remarkable to watch on the basketball court and on the football field. His competitive spirit was matched by a deep sense of discipline and humility that carried with him throughout his lifetime. He likely would have continued to pursue athletics had a knee injury not sidelined him and which bothered him his entire life. After high school, he attended Lincoln Barber College in East Moline. He spent 46 years behind the chair, most of which were at The Loop Barber Shop in Rock Falls, Illinois. The barber shop was more than a place for a haircut, it was a gathering place where friendships were formed, laughter flowed and everyone was treated like family. His niece recently reminisced on bringing her children to him to get their haircuts and now grandchildren and how

The Volunteer Educators at the Windmill Cultural Center in Fulton will host a Wild Winter Wednesday musical program with Travis Hosette on Dec. 17.
Hosette impersonates and sings Sinatra-like vocals professionally for all sorts of special events throughout eastern Iowa, western Illinois, and as far away as Milwaukee and Cincinnati.
He discovered Sinatra music more than 30 years ago through listening to Harry Connick Jr.’s music. He fell in love with
the big-band sound and continues to deliver this timeless music. He will treat the crowd to the sounds of Christmas.

Arellano to host Dec. 16 special legislative update in Sterling State Sen. Li Arellano, R-Dixon, will lead a legislative update Tuesday, Dec. 16, that will provide an opportunity for residents of the 37th District to hear about recent legislation and ongoing policy discussions.

they loved to visit with him and how he always made everyone feel important and that he was always one of her most favorite people. His picture remains on the shop wall to this day. As a young father, he understood the true meaning of family. He always took the time for his children. He spent hours playing catch, shooting hoops in the driveway (never letting you win a game of horse or around the world, but letting you think you almost could), riding bikes, swimming, ice skating, going on long walks and often taking the family to area parks to have picnics, packing the cooler, grilling out and to go hiking as a family. There were no extravagant, expensive vacations, but just precious time with family, teaching them to appreciate the simple joys in life which money could never buy. This was especially true at Christmastime. Not only was Christmas Vacation his all-time favorite movie, Ted was the original Clark Griswold. He even looked and sounded just like him. He could quote the movie verbatim and sing “Joy to the World” in Clark’s voice to a T. He bent over backwards to ensure Christmas was a magical time for his young children. He loved to decorate the tree and would only allow the icicles to be put on the tree one by one. No shortcuts. It had to be perfect. He would also go to the finished basement on Christmas Eve and “meet” Santa at the fireplace to get our gifts and played both Santa and himself while his children waited excitedly upstairs full of wonder. He often bought and wrapped his own gifts, labeling to: Ted, from: Reta and she always looked so confused when he opened them on Christmas Day. Though it was never about the gifts under the tree. For him, the true joy was in the magic of the season and the smiles on his children’s faces that meant the most.
Aside from working, time with family and his persistent knee injury, he was still a natural athlete, staying active and enjoying every
game he played. He played on a recreational basketball league in his early 30’s with his team “of scrubs” taking 1st against a group of young college kids in a city tournament. He also played slow pitch softball for years and had the highest limitless arc, spot-on pitch anyone had ever seen. He was dubbed “Double Clutch” with his unusual pitching style by his close friend and teammate. He played wallyball, volleyball, an avid golfer (with one hole-inone without any witnesses but know he would never lie)was on a bowling league for years and he and his wife had aggressive tennis and pool matches against one another for years. He was the most patient, soft-spoken and sweetest man, but extremely competitive and the only time he ever showed any aggression. He also was a talented woodworker building his own workshop and deck for his family’s backyard pool amongst many other things. Per his wife’s request, he built a cupola for their garage with a weathervane and a windmill to honor her Dutch heritage which placed first at the Whiteside County Fair. He never once used any power tools. A true craftsman, he later designed and had a memorial archway made for the courtyard of his assisted living facility for everyone to enjoy well beyond his lifetime. As he became less active, he began beautiful writings. Inspirational and faith-based words of wisdom, each given a title and hand drawn title design. He gifted personalized copies to each of his family members and staff at his assisted living home. He always shared love and light with everyone around him, not with grand gestures, but through small meaningful acts. Nothing brought Ted greater joy than his grandchildren. Watching them grow and compete and excel in their sports and extra-curricular activities filled him with immense pride. He never missed a game or dance recital. His grandchildren were blessed with the same God given athleticism and talent. He was
able to enjoy everything from little league baseball championships to high school state championships in both football and track and later college baseball and football. He loved to share their accomplishments with anyone that would listen. He lovingly nicknamed his grandson “Flyin Rylan” for his speed on the track and that he flew through the air in the long jump. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life and supporting them became one of his proudest roles. Beyond being a devoted grandfather, he was a man remembered for his kindness, steady presence, warm humor and the way he made everyone around him feel valued. His love reached far and touched many, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity. Ted is survived by his wife Reta, daughters Janet, Karen, and Rhonda (Nick) Alvarado. Grandchildren Dane Roth, Charlie (Jaryn Franklin) and Danny Dennehey, Grace Onken and Rylan Alvarado. Great grandchildren Everlyn and Harrison Dennehey. Brother Dick of Rock Falls, Sisters Sharon Fuglestad of Fitchburg, WI, Kathleen McKee of Orlando Fl, Kevin McKee of Hendersonville NC, Colleen (Ann Marie Stanczyk) Sterling of Blairsville, GA, Maureen McKee, Micheal McKee and Jeannie (Ed) Ramos all of Sterling, IL. In keeping with his wishes, Ted will be cremated. Family & close friends will attend a private graveside service and he will be laid to rest on January 1, 2026, which would’ve been his 85th birthday.

Jim was born in Moline, IL, on September 21, 1943, to Warren and Ruth (Peterson) Naftzger. He graduated from Erie High School in 1961 and married his partner for life, Beverly Temple, on May 17, 1963. Coming from a long line of farmers, Jim proudly continued the family tradition, farming in rural Albany and Fenton for 27 years. He often shared stories of his childhood on the farm memories he recounted with humor, humility, and gratitude for the simple things that shaped him.
Alongside farming, Jim dedicated 46 years to Erie Foods International, where he served as a plant and production manager until retiring in 2021. His work ethic was steady and unwavering. He led by example and quietly showed what responsibility and integrity truly looked like.
Deeply committed to his Christian faith, Jim was an active member of Newton Zion
Reformed Church and Erie Evangelical Free Church. His faith guided how he lived and how he cared for others.
Jim was a kind and compassionate man. He had an extraordinary ability to make people feel important—whether it was a long conversation in the living room or a quick chat at the kitchen table, he always cared about what you had to say. He listened with sincerity, spoke with gentleness, and carried a peaceful presence that made everyone around him feel seen and valued.
A natural storyteller, Jim loved reflecting on the day’s events and sharing memories from the farm or from his decades at Erie Foods. He cherished time with his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He celebrated their victories wholeheartedly and offered comfort and encouragement in their disappointments. His quiet strength, patience, and unfailing support made him a constant source of love in their lives.
Jim set an incredible example of what it meant to be a good husband and father. He loved Beverly with deep devotion for 62 years, and together they built a family grounded in faith, hard work, and love.
Jim is survived by his wife Beverly; sons, Neil (Krista) Naftzger of DeKalb, IL, and Jeff (Shelly) Naftzger of Prophetstown, IL; daughter, Lisa (Robert) Deines of Port Byron, IL; ten grandchildren, Katie (David) Johns, Sydney (Dustin) Forbes, Sam Naftzger, Brody Naftzger, Will Naftzger, Caleb Naftzger, Carter Deines, Derek Naftzger, Linnea Naftzger, and Stella Deines; three great-grandchildren, David Johns, Scarlett Johns, and Walker Johns; and sisters, Sharon (Dennis) Bicker and Marilyn Schaver, both of Albany, IL.

Kenneth “Stretch” Tegeler, 80, of Fulton, formerly Fenton, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025 in his home.
Kenny was born on November 20th, 1945 in Morrison, Illinois to Kenneth “Skinner” and Marguerite (Strating) Tegeler. He was the fourth of seven siblings and spent his childhood growing up on a dairy farm. He graduated from Erie High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Gayle (Graham) Tegeler. The two were married on August 27th, 1965 at Fenton Church.

Having four boys definitely contributed to his grey hair down the road as he had to be the one to lay down the law after they finally got on Mom’s last nerve.
He devoted 30 years of his life to working at John Deere Harvester as an Assembler and was able to retire from there in 1996. He was a hard worker, but when he wasn’t working he was traveling the country with his family or playing slow pitch softball. In 1982, he was a member of “The Other Place” team that won the State Championship. Kenny loved animals, flowers and to travel. He and Gayle spent their winters in Florida enjoying the sunshine and friendships made there.

He was first up to teach them how to drive, and he and Gayle could always be found at the top of the bleachers at any sporting event cheering on one of the kids or grands.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Gayle Tegeler; sons, Bret (Tracy) Tegeler, Shawn Tegeler and Mitch (Jill) Tegeler; daughter-in-law, Tammy Tegeler; honorary son, Chad (Bre) Clark; siblings, Verna Anderson, Karen (Bob) Sweikar,

RHEA JEAN BUTNER, 95, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Resthave Home in Morrison.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. There will be no memorial service. A private graveside service will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established.
Rhea was born on October 6, 1930, in Milledgeville, IL, to Roy and Irene (Ward) Schreiner. She was educated in the Chadwick grade schools and graduated from Chadwick High School in 1949. She continued her education at
Western Illinois University in Macomb, earning her degree in education.
She first married Arthur “Mick” Kromrey. Later, Rhea married Cornelius “Neil” Butner on June 12, 1973, in Joliet, IL. They shared their lives for nearly 12 years before his passing on February 22, 1985. She dedicated her career to teaching elementary education in the Rural Whiteside County Schools and later in the Morrison School District. She was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church.
Rhea was a talented quilter who also enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending cherished time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Seyller of Morrison, IL; two grandchildren, Timothy (Katy) Seyller of Madison, WI, and Christine (Bill) Fruin of Nashville, TN; one great-granddaughter, Hayley Ross; and one sister, Tonia (Diana) Day-Schreiner of Sterling, IL.

IOWA CITY, IA – Leslie E. “Pete” Williams, age 86, of Erie died Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.
Leslie was born on July 28, 1939 in Louisiana, MO the son of Leslie and Francis (Smith) Williams. He married Rose Nuzzi on March 11, 1963. Leslie later married Shirley Williams on October 13, 1984. He served his country for 20 years from 1956 – 1976 in the United States Navy. He was then employed as the head of Maintenance for the Village of Lyndon. Leslie was a volunteer on the Lyndon Fire Department from 1979 - 1991. Leslie enjoyed fishing, gardening, farming and traveling.

JoAnn was born January 22, 1931, in Moline, IL, the daughter of D. Kirk and Neta (Perkins) Guthrie. She graduated from Erie High School in 1949. JoAnn married Roland Mose on May 31, 1953, at the Erie Methodist Church.

The Emmanuel Church of Morrison’s “Voices of Praise” will present the 18th annual Christmas cantata, the high-energy “Joy! Unspeakable Joy!” which will be presented in three services at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19; 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20; and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21.
Voices of Praise will sing with the strength of 93 voices, its largest group in its 18-year history. Singers join members of Emmanuel’s Sanctuary Choir, coming from more than 20 churches, with some traveling more than 100 miles to be part of this outreach group.
Worship songs such as “Jesus, Is He Worthy?” and Cece Winan’s “That’s My King” invite audi-
ence participation as the sanctuary fills with song and worship. Director Rich Criss and Pam Muur will be featured soloists, and Dennis Boeck will provide narration.
No tickets are needed for this 70-minute concert. A freewill offering will be collected. All ages are welcome, and the church is handicapped accessible. A fellowship hour will follow all performances.
A free shuttle bus will be provided for one hour before and after all three performances. The shuttle bus will pick up people who park in Ebenezer Reformed Church’s parking lot, located two blocks south of Emmanuel’s campus, and will drop them off at the curb in front of Emmanuel. 1965: Fulton Public Library renovation plans approved by City Council

Plans for renovating the basement of the Fulton Public Library and making other improvements to cost a total of about $9,000 were approved at the meeting of the City Council. The plans call for complete rewiring of the building in addition to making the basement usable for public gatherings as well as various library purposes.
The Council accepted a bid of the Fulton Fire Protection District for the old City Hall property on Fourth Street. Trustees of the Fire District hope to use the acquired property for an expansion of the present fire station.

Drives, Inc. has purchased the assets of Agri-Chain Products, Inc., of Dolton, Illinois, and all machinery, equipment and
inventories will be moved to the Fulton plant. This information was contained in a letter sent to all Agri-Chain customers and signed by both Ronald DenBesten, president of Drives, and Robert Green, president of Agri-Chain Products, Inc.
Two new businesses opened in Fulton. Kevin Anderson and Roger Witoff have opened a greenhouse in Fulton. The greenhouse, operated for many years by Jake Wiersema and known as Wiersema Greenhouse, has been closed for several months after the death of the owner. The new owners will continue to call the business by the same name and will continue to offer many of the same services that were offered before. A second new business owner, Jil Hanen, has opened Gift Gallery in the River City Mall.

For the second time in the past two years property taxes in the city of Fulton will drop. Last year taxes dropped 12% but this year property taxes will drop again to be 22% lower than the 1988 level, which was the highest in recent years. In 1988 the rate was .9890, last year it was .8797 and this year .7694 per $100 valuation.
At the City Council meeting, the sale of land to Ross Motors of Clinton in Fulton’s Industrial Park was acted upon, resulting in the action that the council has dropped the project and in reality will not allow Ross Motors to purchase up to three building lots in the Industrial Park to install a salvage recycling business including a body shop, repair shop using new and
used parts and some retail sales of parts.

Richard and Susan Walker of Stoneham, Massachusetts, have purchased the Hank Legel property. The land located at the east end of 10th Avenue and east side of Route 84 will be the future site of two new businesses. Remodeling is being done in the former cafe featuring Brick Oven baked pizza. A landscaping business featuring natural stone used in landscaping projects is also being planned.

On Nov. 19 Steam Anchor Coffee & Cafe, located at 1310 17th St., opened its doors to the Fulton Chamber of Commerce members as well as the Fulton City Council and Administration. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held. Owners Paige and Ben Wilbur were presented a clock from the mayor on behalf of the city of Fulton to thank them for choosing Fulton for their business.
Fulton Historical Society continues in researching and publishing articles on its “History of Historic Buildings in Fulton, Illinois” series. Riverdale leads BCR Three Rivers All-Sports Race

After winning its first BCR Three Rivers All-Sports championship in 2023-24, Riverdale is back on top of this year’s race through the fall sports season.
The Rams have been boosted by first-place finishes in boys golf and its girls volleyball team, which placed third in Class 2A, in the Three Rivers West. Overall, Riverdale has 34 points, just enough to hold an edge by one point over Erie-Prophetstown (33), which had firstplace finishes in volleyball (TRAC East) and girls golf.
Rounding out the top five through the fall season are Sherrard (32), which swept the cross country titles and won boys soccer with co-op partner Orion, Princeton (30.5), which was second in volleyball, football and girls cross country, and Orion (28).
Each school is awarded points for its sports finishes based on the number of teams in that sport. Most of the sports are split by divisions, rewarding a first-place finish six points, a second-place finish five points, etc. A first-place finish in sports with a full conference netted 14 points, etc.
There are 14 sports recognized in the conference with the addition of boys soccer in 2023-24.
This is the eighth year of the Bureau County Republican Three Rivers All-Sports Race. Rockridge won the first championship in 2015-16, followed by a two-year run by Newman (2016-17, 2017-18) and Orion in 2018-19.

Milledgeville 54, Morrison 39: Julie Folkers led the Missiles with 19 points, and Jozlynn Castro scored 15 in the win. Milledgeville led 18-7 after the first quarter. Zoe Milder scored eight points in the second quarter for the Fillies.
Fulton 52, Rock Falls 35: Breleigh Hayton and Haley Smither each scored 14 points for Fulton in the home win. Wrenn Coffey added 11 points for the Steamers (2-2).

Sterling’s Sarah Doughty wins Oregon invite: Sterling’s Sarah Doughty rolled a 1,282 to take first for the third straight year. LaSalle-Peru (5,211) won the tournament, Dixon (5,173) was second and Sterling (5,090) was fourth. Oregon/Stillman Valley (4,405) was fifth and E-P (3,209) was ninth.
Dixon had four bowlers over 1,000, led by Madelyn Bird’s 1,095 to take fourth. Carli Bailey led Oregon with a 1,090 to take fifth. E-P’s Mia Trent led the team with a 769.
