MORRISON–A27-year-oldaccused ofa2019attemptedmurderanda2020 assaultonaWhitesideCountyjailofficernowhasathirdfelonycasefiled against him,thisoneaccusinghimof punchingajailworker.

JeramieM.House,whoseattempted murdertrialissettobeginOct.31,was chargedTuesdaywithtwocountsof aggravatedbattery.Investigatorssaid hepunchedajailworkerintheheador face,knockinghimtotheground.

Thechargecarriesthreetoseven yearsinprison.

Bondwassetat$100,000.

HousewaschargedMay2,2020, withonecountofaggravatedbattery. Inthatcase,whichisongoing,heis accusedofthrowing“aliquidsubstance”atanotherjailworker.Bondin thatcaseis$25,000.

Hehasapretrialhearingthesame dayhistrialissettobegin.

Officer shoots armed person while serving search warrant for meth

AnIllinoisStatePoliceofficershotand woundedan armedpersonwhileexecutingasearchwarrantabout5:30a.m.Friday,Oct.21,ataresidenceinthe600block ofNorthCherryStreet.Inanotherpartof theresidence,policefoundanotherpersonwithagunshotwound.

Bothwoundedindividualswere takentoanundisclosedhospital. A newsreleasefromthestatepolicesaid medicalconditionreportsontheshootingvictimswerenotavailable.

ThestatepoliceDivisionof Internal InvestigationissuedanewsreleaseFridayafternoonsayingitwasinvestigat-

ingthe incidentbecauseanofficer was involvedintheshooting.

Thestatepoliceofficerinvolvedis a four-year,highlytrainedmemberof a specialweaponsassaultteam,accordingtotherelease.

Officialssaidtheofficersservingthe searchwarrant–partoftheBlackhawk AreaTaskForce–werewearingbody cameras.Thewarrantwasbeingserved forpossessionwithintenttodeliver methamphetamineandpossessionof contrabandinapenalinstitution.

“Thisinvestigationisopenandongoing,”accordingtothereleasefromthe DivisionofInternalInvestigation.

“Uponcompletionoftheinvestigation,

allevidenceandfactswillbesubmitted forreviewtotheWhitesideCounty State’sAttorney’sOffice.”

Becauseoftheinvestigation’scommitmenttointegrityandtransparency, additionalinformation,includingthe bodycameravideo,wouldbemadepublic,whenpossible,withtheadviceand concurrenceofthestate’sattorney.

Thestatepolicesaidthatofficers heardgunshots fromwithintheresidenceastheybegantheirsearch.Officersencounteredthesuspectofthe warrant,whowasarmed.Thegenderof thesuspectwasnotlistedintherelease.

Thestatepoliceofficerfiredatthe armedsuspect,whowaswoundedand

thentakentoanareahospital.

Officerscontinuedtheirsearch.In a separatepartofthehome,theyfound a womanwhohadbeenshot.Shewas takentoanareahospital.

Theinitialnewsreleasesaboutthe incidentcameFridaymorningfromthe MorrisonPoliceDepartmentandthe WhitesideCountysheriff,whosaidthey wereprovidingsecurityaftertheincidentandclosingdowntrafficinthe vicinity.

Thefallprescribedburnseasonhas arrived,andwithitawindowofopportunitytosetablazeasmallpatchof prairieinFultononSaturday.Several membersofNaturalAreaGuardians ofWhitesideCountywelcomedthe opportunitytohelpwithaprescribed burn attheAndresenNatureCenter prairie.

Theprairiemeasuresaround9,000 squarefeetandissevenyearsinthe making,withvolunteersworkingto expanditeveryyear.Fromgoldenrod toIndiangrasstomilkweedtoasters, thenativespeciesareasourceoffood forinsects andbirdsandprovidean overallhavenforwildlife.

Diverticulaare pouch-likeareasthat balloonoutfromthecolonorlargeintestine,usuallyoccurringontheleftsidein thedescendingportionofthebowel.The diverticulaappearinareasinwhichthe wallofthecolonisweakenedbythe entranceofbloodvessels.Thisweakness isoftenpresentinmanymiddle-aged Americans.Infact,byage40,halfofthe peoplemayhavebeguntoformthese diverticula.Inpeopleoverage80,as manyas90%mayhavethese.Diverticulosisisthepresenceofthesepouches.

Thereisstrong evidencethatdiet playsaroleindiverticula.Diverticular diseaseislargelyunknownincountries wherethestandarddietprovidesalotof naturalfiber,suchas fruits,vegetables, wholegrainproductsandlittlefat.Once

Diagnosis often is made by the history of your illness as well asphysical findings. Blood counts may be helpful. Occasionally an X-ray examination of the colon is performed, though,sometimes a delay ismade until after the inflamma tionhascalmeddown.

During the acute phase of an illness, clear liquids are used. Your doctor may then advanceyour diet through stages, and you should follow those directions carefully and report any flareups in pain, increasein temperature, passage of blood in bowel movements, more swell ing of the abdomen, vomiting or other

changes in your condition. It is import ant that a laxative not be taken. Often times, physicians advise that seedy prod ucts be avoided during an acute infection of diverticulitis,however, thisis no lon ger felt essential. Hospitalization is sometimesnecessary for diverticulitis and occasionally surgery may become necessary.Your doctor also may want to do an exam with an instrument to look in thecolon(sigmoidoscopy).
