Resthave celebrates Father’s Day w ith a car show, cookout

Resthave Care & Rehabilitation, 408 Maple Ave. in Morrison, celebrated Father’s Day with a car show, a cookout and live music by Les Wilson on Friday, June 17.

A huge thank you to Mark Schuler and Veneta Leif for rounding up the cars. Thank you to everyone involved who took the time from their busy schedules to bring cars to Resthave home.

Resthave’s dietary staff did a great job putting together a delicious lunch consisting of hot dogs, chips, macaroni salad and our famous blue ribbon winning cookies baked by Tawn y a D e n n i n g , d i e t a r y m a n a g e r . Volunteer,

Terry Jones did a fantastic job grilling up the hot dogs.

DOROTHY SIEFKEN

Dorothy Grace Siefken, 102, mother to Russell (Carol) Siefken of Sterling, and Steven (Deeny) Siefken of Morrison and sister to Helen Wagenecht of Morrison, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Resthave Home in Morrison surrounded by family.

Born at home on April 28, 1920 to Earl Francis and Ethel Marie (Widdle) Hiddleson.

Dorothy had three grandchildren Tara (Rich) Curtis of Dixon, Mandy (Paul) Freeman of Morrison and Jeffery (Shannon) Siefken of Wisconsin; eight great-grandchildren.

She married the love of her life, Russell Garrett Siefken Sr., on Valentines Day, February 14, 1942. He preceded her in death on August 14, 2015 at the age of 94.

She was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church since 1937. Dorothy worked at Volckman Furniture Company in Morrison and 19 years at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Garrett Siefken, Sr., three brothers George Hiddleson, William Hiddleson, and Earl Hiddleson.

Funeral service was 10AM Thursday June 23, 2022 at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation in Sterling, with Reverend Polly Klimson, officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service from 9AM-10AM. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison.

A memorial has been established.

DARLENE SIKKEMA

Darlene Sikkema, age 89 of Fulton, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at her home. In following Darlene’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, June 11th at Rastrelli’s Restaurant on Main Avenue in Clinton, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date in Fulton Township Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Darlene Sikkema, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Fulton, Illinois, with family near, including her husband of 71 years, Russell. Darlene was the daughter of Andrew and Mae Bielema, along with her siblings Howard and Viola. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in the Albany-Erie area, and went to Erie High School, where she loved participating in marching band and excelled in Latin class.

She married Russell Sikkema in 1951. A devoted farm wife, she tended chickens, chased pigs, grew and canned vegetables and fruit, planted trees and shrubs at every house she lived in, and was well-known for her superb cooking for her family and many others who helped with the farm work. Darlene was a wonderful and supportive mother to her three sons Loren, Jon, and Scott, and was an active and vocal attendee at Fulton Steamer football games. She loved her daughter-inlaw Cecelia, and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. In later years, she enjoyed traveling, volunteering at Fulton Elementary School,reading biographies of historical women, an occasional glass of wine, and getting her hair done each week at Head Over Heels Salon, where she and Russell enjoyed good times and laughter with friends.

DONALD “POOD” KING

Born: August 22, 1935 in Sterling, IL Died: June 23, 2022 in Morrison, IL

DONALD “POOD” KING, 86. Of Morrison, IL, died Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Resthave Home in Morrison, IL. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Mr. Ken Renkes officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 28th at the funeral home. During the visitation, at 6:00 p.m., there will be a Fire Department walk-through. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. A memorial to Morrison Athletic Boosters has been established.

Pood was born August 22, 1935, in Sterling, IL, to Howard and Ivy (Twombly) King. He was a graduate of Morrison High School and Rockford Business College. On November 26, 1965 he married Coralyn Null in Morrison. Pood had worked at General Electric in Morrison for 37 years. He also worked as a bailiff for the Morrison County Court House for 28 years, and for over 25 years he operated his own lawn mowing business. For 28 years Pood was a volunteer fireman for the Morrison Fire Department. He was also a member of the Morrison Masonic Dunlap Lodge #321 A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Coralyn; three sons, Toby (Barb) King of Morrison, Kevin (Melissa) King of Mt. Juliet, TN and Jeff (Denise) King of Peru, IL; seven grandchildren, Kendra King, Andy (Kayla) Ellerbrock, Chelsea King, Elyssia (Adam) Sharrow and Dalton (Tiffany) Sego, McKenna (fiancé Joey Brackemyer) King and Erika King; one great grandson, Bryce Brooker; a brother-in-law, Jody (Nancy) Null. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Village of Erie, Illinois Business District Plan for the Proposed Erie Business District The Village of Erie is considering adopting a Business District Plan for the proposed Erie Business District (pursuant to the Business District Development and Redevelopment Law constituting Section 65 ILCS 5/11-74.3-1, et seq., as amended). This notice also includes the following information: 1. A public hearing will be held at 5:15 p.m. on July 12, 2022, at the Erie Village Hall, 740 Main Street, Erie, IL 61250. 2. In order to implement the activities covered by the Erie Business District, the Business District Plan must be adopted. 3. The geographical boundaries of the Erie Business District are as follows: 4. The Area encompasses 252 parcels of property and rights-of-way in the Village of Erie. Generally, this Area encompasses parcels in the central portions of the Village, as well as the northern, eastern, and western boundary areas. Beginning at the northeast portion of the corporate boundary, the Area takes in properties adjacent to Lake Erie and continues south to take in properties in the downtown area.
