Welcome WHY DO I LIVE HERE, in this wonderful community? For me, it’s called hometown pride. I was raised here, my family lives here and my friends are here—I still socialize with my high school friends. I love that I am close to a few airports, walking paths, great food. I love the change of seasons we see throughout the year. And, most of all, I love my career highlighting business in the area. But why do you live here, and where do you bring friends and family when they visit? There are many reasons and places, to be sure. Richmond and Spring Grove are perfect meeting spots between Chicago (68 miles), Milwaukee, Wisconsin (64 miles), and Madison, Wisconsin (82 miles). Like to take friends horseback riding? We have that! Want to brag you walked to Wisconsin? You can! Park in downtown Richmond and walk to Wisconsin on the Prairie Trail path—just to say you did it. Perhaps you love nature. It is a thing of beauty to see the Sandhill Cranes migrat-ing through our area to Mexico from Canada in November and in March when they return. Our villages are also the perfect stopping points to welcome travelers, ready to stretch their legs and buy coffee or candy before getting to the large resort town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Spring Grove is home to one of the most breathtaking 4th of July community parades and fireworks displays in the area. Richmond has the charming Downtown Fall Wine Walk in September, and tourists come from all over to enjoy the fall festivals at local farms and apple orchards. Our villages are also wonderful gathering and connecting places for us. I like that we have small-town living just a train ride away from the big city. The food here is outstanding. We can find everything from a burger and a beer in a dive bar to the most spectacular fine-dining experience. Music is all around us, from outdoor concerts to little clubs. Fishing and swim-ming, golfing, shopping and family pic-nics are regular activities. We restore our health by visiting the Chain of Lakes and many smaller lakes and streams, great for fishing, boating and skiing. Close by we have mountains for downhill skiing and terrain for cross-country skiing. We have every convenience—big box stores, as well as indoor and outdoor malls nearby—and we have the charms of local farmers sell-ing their garden bounty direct to us at their farm stands, and shop owners who know our names and call us to say, “I got something in today, you may want to stop in.” Venture away from of all this, and you will think, “I can’t wait to come back home.”

he Village of Fox Lake (population 10,700) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water, making the Village a haven for many water sport enthusiasts. Centrally located in the "Heart of the Chain O' Lakes," Fox Lake offers its residents and visitors a rich history, nature, and unique business opportunities. The Village Board consists of six Trustees, a Village Clerk and Mayor dedicated to keeping Fox Lake a wonderful place to live and conduct business. The Trustees are Nancy Koske, Bernice Konwent, Ron Stochl, Jeff Jensen, Brian Marr, and Danice Moore. The Village Clerk is Amy Driscoll and the Mayor is Donny Schmit who is serving his second term in office. The Village of Fox Lake is a full-service Village with the Departments and Divisions of General Government
(Administration, Human Resources & Finance), Community Development, Police, FoxComm 911 Center (multi-agency dispatch center), Public Works, Parks & Recreation, and the Northwest Regional Water Reclamation Facility (multijurisdiction treatment plant).
GO Fox Lake, a new upgraded website, road enhancement on Sayton, Frontage, Grand Ave. and more, enhanced communication through various social media platforms and an online e-newsletter. You will continue to see many projects completed within the next several years.
The Village Administrator, Anne Marrin, oversees the dayto-day operations and serves as liaison between the Village residents and the Board. Administrator Marrin also over-sees all Department Heads. Department Heads include: Chief Jimmy Lee, Fox Lake Police Department; Kealan Noonan, Director of Public Works; Ryan Kelly, Director of Northwest Regional Water Reclamation Facility; Donovan Day, Community Development Director; and Laura Linehan, Director of Human Resources / Assistant to the Village Administrator.
The Village continues to streamline the building and permit processes for developers and businesses. When you enter our Community Development and Building Department, you will be greeted with a smile and asked “How can we help you?” The Village actively pursues development and as a result, over thirteen million dollars in investment in businesses in Fox Lake over the last year and talks are ongoing with several developers for even more development.
In May of 2017, the Village Board approved a five-year Strategic Plan for the Village. With four Strategic Planning Teams, more and more projects are getting completed to continue to move Fox Lake forward. A few completed projects include: murals throughout the community, new events such as the Friday Night Concert Series, Bloody Mary Fest, Farmers Market, and

ichmond, a community that blends old and new, was first settled in 1837 by William McConnell, who spent his first night under an oak tree that still stands today. Incorporated on September 2, 1872, with Dr. Fillmore Bennett, a poet, the first principal of Richmond grade school and elected first Village President, Richmond has seen many changes but has never lost its old world charm. Standing tall today, Memorial Hall was constructed in 1906 by the grandson of William McConnell and hosts a colorful history of serving as a library, auditorium, school gymnasium, as well as, Village Hall and Police Department until 1993. Memorial Hal holds true as the center of the community and a gathering place for community events. Richmond has been put on the map as an up-and-coming restaurant district that hosts a variety of unique, family-owned

and local eateries. From sandwiches to fine dining, there is something for everyone. Perfectly polished boutiques have sprung up alongside the lively nightlife scene and this small village is embracing its new identity. Richmond is proud of its many community-centric events: From the Fire Department’s Cruise Nights to the village hosted Richmond Retro Night, Bike the Richmond Trail and Christmas of Yesteryear; the American Legion Post 253’s Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day celebrations; not to mention the sidewalk sales and live music events local businesses host. While the businesses that inhabit downtown Richmond are new, the buildings they inhabit seem frozen in time, as well as, the immaculately conserved Victorian homes that sprawl throughout Richmond, it’s an architectural sight to see. Stepping back from man-made marvels, Richmond is
surrounded by scenic farmlands, rolling prairies and is adjacent to Glacial Park, which is the most treasured open space holding of the McHenry County Conservation District. Being the most popular site, the park attracts more than 64,000 guests annually. Prairie Trail, which runs through Glacial Park, is a 26.5 mile nature trail that connects Wisconsin and Illinois. Here and throughout Richmond, there are many enjoyable outdoor activities to participate in like biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing or just a relaxing walk on a Sunday morning. Richmond is a unique border town tucked between two great states. Residents and visitors enjoy the Village’s small town vibe and the unique offerings that have been cultivated over time. This is so much to see and so much more to look forward to in Richmond.

pring Grove is a vibrant small-town community with lots of family-fun and unique activities for every age and interest! Spring Grove’s hidden gem is Hatchery Park. Built as the first state fish hatchery in 1914, it is now a beautiful, quiet park for anglers and nature lovers alike. The lake and ponds are stocked with a great variety of biting fish, including largemouth bass, walleye, bluegill, crappie, muskie, perch, northern, and more! Bring a picnic lunch to eat under the new lakeside cedar pavilion and enjoy the mile-long walking path around the lake. Hatchery Park is also a great place to catch a view of a variety of wildlife, including sandhill cranes, painted and snapping turtles, red fox, muskrat and, yes, even snakes! Spring Grove is also home to the world’s largest corn maze, located on the Richardson Adventure Farm, with miles of
trails cut from a unique design each year. The many other activities there include a zip line, train rides, carousel, pig races, petting zoo, gem stone mining, paintball shooting gallery and much more! Private picnic/campfire sites and hayrides are also available. Come back after Thanksgiving and visit their Christmas Tree Farm in the winter and make new family memories with wagon rides, hot chocolate and fresh cut trees. For the canoe or kayak enthusiast, Lyle Thomas Park is one of four canoe launches/landings along the Nippersink Creek. The Nippersink Creek Canoe Trail is one of the most beautiful meandering canoe trails in Northern Illinois. Lyle Thomas Park is also home to a replica of the first vertical silo ever built, which was invented in Spring Grove in 1873. People come from miles around to experience Spring Grove’s traditional small-town events, including the annual 4th of July
festivities with a parade, games, food and fun at Horse Fair Park and a fantastic fireworks display. Speaking of Horse Fair Park, if you love horses, the Spring Grove Horse Show holds horse shows there every summer, where you can watch riders compete in the English/Western Pleasure Show, Hunter Show, Speed Show and Fun & Action Show. For ball fans, stop by Thelen Family Park or Spring Grove Park, both in the center of town, and cheer on the local sports teams as they compete on several baseball and football fields. When you’re done with all the outdoor activities, be sure to stop by one of the many restaurant venues offering a variety of cuisine, along with comedy shows, gaming and live music! From juicy burgers, brick-oven pizza and authentic Mexican fare, to sandwiches, soups and salads, you can find something for every appetite within an easy ½ mile corridor in Spring Grove!

he Village of Volo is an up-and-coming community in Lake County, Illinois. Incorporated in 1993, Volo has quickly grown from under 50 residents to over 5,400 in its 26 year lifetime. Volo is home to the world famous Volo Auto Museum, open daily and featuring a wide array of classic, performance, and TV & movie cars. Towards the center of town is Fish Lake Beach, featuring activities such as swimming, fishing, camping, and seasonal living. The Millennium Trail bike path runs right through the center of town, allowing

residents scenic access to the Lake County Forest Preserve and neighboring communities. Volo also features close proximity to the Chain-of-Lakes, which offers recreational activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, and hiking. Throughout the year, Volo holds seasonal events such as an Easter Egg Hunt, Kite Fest, Volo Fest, and Christmas Tree Lighting, all opportunities for residents to come together and celebrate their community. During the winter season, residents can utilize the municipal complex for its sled hill and outdoor ice
skating rink as weather permits. Volo feeds into the Big Hollow School District 38 for Primary, Elementary, and Middle Schools, and Grant Community High School and Wauconda High School District 118 depending on residents’ location. The Mayor and Trustees convene for Village business every first and third Tuesday of the month at 7PM at the Village Hall, located at 500 S. Fish Lake Road.

ox Lake, Illinois offers its users the services of a modern, state of the art public library facility. The librarVs new building was opened in 201 0 and has won a Distinguished Building Award for Merit in Architecture from a local chapter of the American Institute of Architecture.
The librarVs collection includes over 100,000 adult and children’s books, recorded books, e-books and DVDs. An adult new book section adjoins the building’s main lobby and includes many recent bestsellers, Also just off the lobby, a large collection of DVDs is available for loan free of charge, as are recorded books and audio compact discs. The main floor children’s room is an exciting center of study and activities, and includes books and audio-visuals, kids’ pomputers, a play area, and an activity room where story hours, craft and movie programs are offered through the year. The second floor adult services area offers a large collection of fiction and non-fiction books as well as study rooms and a peaceful,

quiet reading room. Twenty-four public computers are available for use by library patrons. ippersink Public Library District on Hill Road opened October 22, 1990, moving from Memorial Hall in Rich-mond, which had been its home for 18 years. This 9,000-square-foot Prairiestyle building grew to 18,000 square feet when the second-floor addition was built in 1996. The Library is tax-supported and serves approximately 11,188 people in Richmond and Burton townships. It is a member of the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS).
Library Director Cynthia Cole leads a staff of two full-time and 12 part-time employ-ees who manage the library’s collection of books, newspaper and magazine titles, DVDs, music CDs and books on CD. The library offers internet access, and access to a variety of resources including the library’s online catalog, downloadable e-books and e-audio titles, and several databases. Reference and Reader’s Advisory Services are available all hours the library is open. The library is part of the Northern Illinois Consor-tium (NIC), an online consortium of seven public libraries. Materi-als not owned by the library can be obtained through NIC and other Interlibrary Loan services. Programming is conducted throughout the year including story hour for preschoolers and the annual Summer Reading program. A 99-person capacity meeting room, with kitchen facilities, is used by service and civic groups and is available to all community groups. Smaller meeting rooms are also available. he Fox Waterway Agency was created to improve and maintain the Fox River andChain O’Lakes public waterway for recreational uses, to restore environmental quality, manage flooding, promote tourism, and enhance the quality of life along the waterway for residents and users alike. Our jurisdiction includes the 15 interconnected lakes, which make up the Fox River Chain O’Lakes and 30 miles of the Fox River stretching from the Wisconsin State line to the Algonquin Dam, as well as their tributaries and over 40 miles of navigable channels. Although our physical jurisdiction is limited to the Waterway itself, our partnerships with local landowners and organizations, and governmental agencies allows the Fox Waterway Agency to cooperate in many land-based projects that effect the waterway.
