The DePue Men’s Club has done a fantastic job of hosting this yearly event, they should be commended on their fine job. Bring this event back every year provides a homecoming for our great community. Not only former residents but many of our racing family. After a very difficult year, last year, the work put forward to put this event has been a hard decision that has required extra work! Your club has stepped forward and taken this on with great effort. I wish you much success and thank you for your due diligence. As a Village , we must keep that same energy in our work to help ensure our Village and its concerns are met in our Superfund clean-up process. with his son Joe in the 1100cc Runabout at the young age of 70. This quickly became his favorite ride, although he was admittedly nervous for his maiden voyage NOT being the driver. After the 1st heat was in the history book the 2nd heat he was rapping me on the back of the helmet telling me to squeeze the throttle and go at the start! He was a true gentleman on and off the course. He loved getting to the races first and waiting for his friends to show up, greeting them as they came in to chat about anything under the sun. He could turn a wrench and tell a story. Boat racing has lost another champion to time but his legacy will continue as he helped get his Grandson Austin (4th generation) up and running in the KPRO class. We will continue to race the 67 (G)in his honor. P.S. he LOVED the city of Depue.
Mike started racing in 1959 at the age of 14. He ran 1 race with a B class mercury and immediately realized that wasn’t fast enough for him. His dad Henry made it a point to go out and get 2 D class Mercury’s with a Sidcraft Hydro and an Ashburn Runabout for the very next race. Mike never looked back after that. He would run the “C” and “D” class for the majority of his 60 year racing career. During this time he was able to win multiple National championships, North American championships and High Point titles in both the National Outboard Association and the American Power Boat Association. He was a front runner in the 4 cylinder classes throughout his time racing. Mike especially enjoyed running his “D” Quincy Loopers at over 100mph. He had a natural talent to drive race boats fast! In his later years he continued to race in the Stock and Modified categories and enjoyed much success. In the last 5 years he made his way back to the Pro category as a deck rider

How To Watch A Race The boats are carried to the water to wait for the three minute gun. When the THREE MINUTE GUN is fired, that tells the drivers to start their engines and go out on the course. THE ONE MINUTE GUN is fired, and a white flag is displayed, the hand on the clock begins to move. THE FLYING START: The drivers move to the second turn picking their lanes and watching the clock, timing themselves to fly past the starting line the exact second the clock hand hits zero. THE FIRST TURN: It’s every man for himself with boats side by side and rooster tails flying. Someone will be in the lead and everyone else will play catch-up. THE FINISH: THE WHITE FLAG, one more lap to go and finally the checkered flag. The race is over! Relief - but not for long. They must do it all over again two more times. The total points from three heats of racing proclaims the PRO National Champion.

SCORE SHEET 2021 PRO NATIONALS For the PRO National Championships the drivers run three heats in each class. They receive points for each heat. When the heats are finished, the points are totaled to determine the winner. The drivers are ranked according to this total points’ figure and are then given a final position based on this figure. The points that they actually receive are then doubled. Points are scored through the 20th position. In case of a tie, time is the factor!

THE PRO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Sanctioned by the U.S. Title Series WELCOME RACE FANS TO THE PRO NATIONALS IN DEPUE, ILLINOIS The APBA / U.S. Title Series PRO National Championships Welcome Race Fans to the PRO Nationals in DePue, Illinois! On behalf of U.S. Title Series, I would like to welcome you all to the 2021 Pro National Championships. The PRO Nationals is a race that we prepare for all year long. Last year, Covid-19 threw a wrench into all our plans-the cancellation of the 2020 event was a huge disappointment to fans and racers alike. This year, teams from as far away as New York, Florida, Washington, and California are excited to be making the trip to the Midwest for the opportunity to race for a National Championship. We are looking forward to an exciting and memorable event. Our schedule brings a look to the future with the K-Pro kids’ class and gives a nod to the past with the antique classes. Your favorite racers will be back in all the exciting hydroplane and runabout classes with displacements from 125cc all the way up to 1100cc. As we did in 2019, we have invited some classes from the Mod Category to join us. They bring competitive and action-packed racing that we feel fits in well with our program. Hometown favorite Ray Rodda will once again be announcing. If you have heard him before, you already know that “Mr. Holy Buckets” is a wealth of information on this sport and he loves sharing his knowledge of the boats, the engines and the drivers who race them. We are once again holding a “Driving School” with the opportunity for a limited number of fans to pilot a race boat. This program proved to be a success with our first Driving School in 2019. The U.S. Title Series believes it is important to give back to the community and will be awarding scholarship money to a deserving student from DePue. Finally, I would like to thank the DePue Men’s Club and the Village of DePue for the opportunity for us all to come back to what many racers consider their Favorite Race Site.
