The Centre for Arts & Artists is where people gather to inspire one another to be creative as they offer many art classes such as clay hand building, pottery wheel, sculpture, rug hooking, fused glass and drawing. The CAA also houses several artists in their studio spaces, and a new gift shop.
Iowa Speedway, “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet,” is a state-of-the-art 7/8 mile asphalt paved tri-oval race track and motorsports facility designed by NASCAR Hall-of-Famer Rusty Wallace and located 30 miles east of Des Moines, at I-80 Exit. NASCAR purchased the facility in 2013 through the wholly-owned subsidiary, Iowa Speedway LLC.

Iowa Sculpture & Fine Art Festival

Held annually in June, there is a variety of media, shapes and forms of sculpture; entertainment and food. The purpose and goal of the Iowa Sculpture and Fine Arts Festival is to celebrate the development and growth of sculpture as an ultimate art form and to feature the artists who create it. Through community partnerships, the annual festival is located at the climatecontrolled venue on the Newton DMACC Campus located at 600 N. 2nd Ave. W.
The Jacob Krumm Nature Preserve has approximately 10 kilometers of mowed trails that can be used for hiking, mountain biking, nature observation and cross-country skiing.

The Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League was chartered September 20, 1945. The forty acres of land where the club is located today was purchased in 1950. The Club House and 3.5-acre pond was built by club members and dedicated in August of 1951. Over the years, an addition has been added onto the Club House, and the grounds include a full trap and rifle range and archery range.

The Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and monuments honoring local veterans are placed on the south and east sides of the Courthouse.

The Jasper County Historical Museum houses many artifacts displayed in individual room settings, including a country store, an agricultural building, a reproduction of a Victorian home, 1930’s home and tools and machinery used by early settlers. The largest exhibit in the museum recognizes the growth of the Maytag Company through examples of the many products it manufactured since the first washing machine in 1907.

Lynnville Historical Society – Wagaman Mill/Museum
the cheese plant, caves and farm. A 10-minute informative video shows the history and significance of Maytag Blue Cheese. Visitors enjoy the tour of the packaging and shipping areas, as well as a cheese sampling following the tour.

The Wagaman Mill, also known as the Old Mill, was constructed in 1848. It has been used as a saw mill, carding mill, flour mill feed mill and as a generating station for electricity. Complete interior restoration and interior interpretation of the wheel house is available for public viewing during the summer only; and the mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Maytag Park & Pool

It contains the locally-favorite Fred Maytag Bowl which houses entertainment throughout the summer months. There are several shelters, the hike/bike trails, an award-winning disc golf course, new playground, tennis court, sculptures and much more to see and do.
Mariposa Conservation Park

Fred Maytag Pool can be found nestled in the center of historic Maytag Park. Since the pool was built in 1935, it has served as one of the main summertime family attractions in Newton. Today the pool features zero entry access, a chair lift, water fountains, two water slides, a diving well and six 25-meter swimming lanes.

Set among rolling hills of prairie grasses and flowers are more than 5,000 acres of protected prairie and oak savanna habitats. Look for buffalo and elk along the auto-tour route. Experience several miles of trails and the Prairie Learning Center with its state-of-the-art audiovisual programs, underground prairie rootscape and interpretive displays.
A collection of native and introduced trees and various plants useful in the beautification and enhancement of the Iowa Landscape. The walking path through the garden is paved and adjoins the city hike/bike trail. The Krumm Horticultural Center is located in the Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. The building is used to hold various types of educational horticulture seminars and also has a small library that’s open to the public. The Krumm center is regularly rented out to hold meetings, graduations and weddings.
News Printing Company / Newton Daily News
Newton Community Theatre
A beautiful old building of almost 100 years is home to News Print Company owned by Shaw Media. Shaw Media has the 3rd longest family-owned newspaper company in the country. The building houses the Newton Daily News and Jasper County Advertiser. The building is a Classic-Style design and contains the original vault, and you can see the Goss Press from the 1960’s that’s still in use today. You can’t miss the News Printing Company with the Carl Homstad mural painted on the east side of the building as an extra attraction.
For over 50 years, the Newton Community Theatre has offered outstanding dramatic, comedic and musical stage productions using talented local artists and performers. The Theatre schedules three plays and one musical annually.

Newton Kart Klub is a 1/8 mile dirt oval Go-Kart track located 1.5 miles south of the Newton High School on approximately ten acres. Races run weekly during the summer months.
The Newton Dog Park is located at Westwood Park. The 1.5 acre enclosure offers a safe place for dog owners and their four-legged friends to recreate. The park includes a water fountain, a small dog area, picnic tables and a shelter located outside of the fenced area.

Explore this eclectic collection of nearly 90 installations of one, two, and three-dimensional artwork that includes sculptures, bas relief, and painted murals.
The Newton Downtown Historic District consists of 85 properties. It was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places in September, 2014. The original architectural design and appearance of these early buildings reflect the Italianate influence which was popular at the time. The changes made to the buildings over the decades have largely retained this original style.
