CRESTON BOYS BASKETBALL Coach: Brett Watson, first year. Watson spent the past four years as the head girls basketball coach at ADM, after spending five years as an assistant on the ADM boys staff. Assistant coaches are Michael West and Todd Jacobson (freshman coach).

Last year: 11-11 overall, 6-4 for fourth place in the Hawkeye 10 Conference.

Returning letterwinners: Jay Wolfe, Sr. (18.6 ppg, third-team all-state); Alex Nielsen, Sr. (10.4 ppg); Christian Groumoutis, Sr. (3.7 ppg); McClain Haines, Sr. (3.0 ppg); Sam Hartsock, Sr.; Jake Miller, Sr.; Cooper McDermott, Jr. New prospects: Chris Foster, Jr.; Cody Crawford, So.; Ryan Kucera, Jr.; Seth Thompson, So.; Kyle Somers, So. Conference prediction: Watson sees last year’s top teams Harlan and Kuemper Catholic as being the best until someone proves otherwise. Glenwood, Denison-Schleswig, Atlantic and Lewis Central will also compete.

“I always say this, if you’re good enough to compete in the Hawkeye 10, you’re going to be good enough to compete in Class 3A, period,” Watson said. “Because you’re going to see the best of the best. It’s going to be a very tough conference.”

Conference prediction: “It’s a really loaded conference in girls basketball with five rated teams, and several others very close, including us. Harlan was undefeated, Lewis Central and Shen won 17 games, Red Oak has a Division I (Bucknell) guard in Kate Walker and Carroll Kuemper is strong. We hope to compete in the upper group of a very strong field.”

Conference prediction: “The conference race is wide open this year,” Warren said. “It’s going to be very close. We will be in the mix if we play to our potential.”
