Creston man sentenced to 9+ years in prison COUNCIL BLUFFS — Peter James Wiley, 33, of Creston was sentenced Wednesday to 110 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His sentencing also includes three years of supervision following release. On Dec. 10, 2013, Wiley was identified as a person of interest in a shooting in Page County — according to a United States Department of Justice press release. Several hours after the incident

On Dec. 11, 2013, Adams County Sheriff released the description of a vehicle involved in a possible shooting. Creston Police Sgt. Eric Shawler identified a vehicle matching the description in Creston around 5:15 a.m. that day after the vehicle failed to stop at a stop

What do you do when your boyfriend dumps you and breaks your heart? Follow him to Harvard Law School. In the award-winning romantic comedy, which is based on the MGM film, Legally Blonde the Musical, Elle Woods (Brenna Baker) follows her ex-boyfriend Warner (Jake Hitz) to Harvard Law School with the hopes of winning him back. At Harvard, Elle feels overwhelmed and unprepared as Jake finds new love with Vivian (Maddie Travis), who is a serious law student. Determined to get Jake back, Elle works toward her law degree, as well, to prove to Jake that she is good enough. Baker said her character Elle is heartbroken and a bit distracted at first. But, with the help of her friends and classmates, she becomes empowered and learns what real beauty is all about. The musical features 15 songs and choreographed

Creston and Prescott community school boards passed a motion to draft a petition to continue with the consolidation of the two school districts during a special joint meeting Wednesday at Prescott Community School. The petition is part of the state of Iowa code to hold a hearing for Green Hills Area Education Agency to allow the school districts to continue with consolidation. There will need to be at least 490 signatures on the petition. Creston and Prescott school boards will vote on the final petition draft separately at their regularly scheduled meetings Nov. 17 and 19, respectively.

Stabbing occurs today at Axe Murder House VILLISCA —Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation of a reported stabbing 12:45 a.m. today in Villisca at the “Axe Murder House,” 508 E. Second St. According to a Montgomery County Sheriff’s report, Robert Steven Laursen Jr. of Rhinelander, Wis., suffered a self-inflicted injury while visiting the location for a recreational paranormal investigation.
