Annual ‘Sparkling Evening at the Reddick Mansion’ OTTAWA — The Reddick Mansion Association (RMA) invites the public to its fourth annual holiday preview party from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, featuring a special musical performance of Christmas carols by the Men’s Catholic Community Choir.

“I have heard the men’s choir sing in church and am very excited that they will be performing at the Mansion,” said Donna Nordstrom, Reddick Mansion Association board member. “This choir is amazing — they have such depth, beauty and strength in their voices. We appreciate these gentlemen sharing their talent and time with the Mansion.”

Meyer, RMA board member, assisted by Roger Hooper and Mary Baker, members of the RMA, will oversee and coordinate the decorating of the more than 20 rooms in the Mansion. By that Friday evening and after more than 200 volunteer hours, all the trees, garlands, can-

dles, ornaments, centerpieces and lights will be in place.

Along with enjoying the lovely decorations in a relaxed atmosphere and chatting with costumed docents throughout the building, people will also be able to visit and take photos with Father

Christmas (as portrayed

by Roger Hooper).

Refreshments will reflect the “Sparkling Evening” theme and will feature champagne and chocolate. Visitors to the Mansion are invited to enjoy these treats while shopping the unique ornaments and gift shop items for sale on the lower level of the Mansion. Just in time for this event, several new items including coffee mugs and Christmas ornaments with the Mansion’s image will be available for sale.

A donation of $10 per person is requested.

The Reddick Mansion, built in 1858, is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites and is open to the public for tours.

The Mansion, at 100 W. Lafayette Street, Ottawa, also has meeting/reception rooms available for rent for special events.

Casting call for Stage 212’s ‘The 39 Steps’ LASALLE — Director Scot Smigel has announced auditions for the first show of Stage 212’s 50th anniversary season, the winter 2018 production of “The 39 Steps,” will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, at the theater, 700 First St. in LaSalle.

“The 39 Steps” is a fast-paced, often hilariously irreverent, mystery

thriller adapted by Patrick Barlow from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film.

Smigel will be casting one man able to play age 30 to 40 and one woman able to play 25 to 35. This actress will play three separate roles. He will also be casting two actors who will play 150 different roles between them. These actors must be extremely versatile, cre-

ative and playful, with excellent verbal and physical comic timing.

Christkindl Markt is back for its ninth holiday season

Tree of Lights campaign to help buy EKG machines for clinics PRINCETON — The Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Tree of Lights Committee kicked off its annual campaign at the Auxiliary Candy Cane event on Nov. 3.

Since 1990, more than $101,000 has been raised and donated to the hospital for needed equipment.

This year, donations to the Tree of Lights will be used to two EKG machines, one for Perry Memorial Hospital clinics located in Henry and Walnut.

Special stars will be hanging this Christmas at Perry Memorial Hospital on the tree located in the emergency room waiting area. A donation to the Tree of Lights is a unique way to express appreciation by honoring loved ones, friends, teachers, special groups and others.

It is also a special way to memorialize someone who has left behind countless memories and friendships.

A donation of $10 will hang a small star on the

tree and a donation of $100 will hang a large star on the tree. When a donation of $20 or more is given, an acknowledgment card will be sent to the person or family the donation is honoring.

PRINCETON — The ninth annual Christkindl Markt (Christ Child Market) will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Open Prairie United Church of Christ, 25 E. Marion St. in Princeton (behind the Apollo Theater). Christkindl Markt is a popular feature of the Princeton Main Street Christmas Walk. Admission is free.

At the market entrance, coffee, hot chocolate, hot mulled cider, stollen, lebkuchen and homemade soft pretzels will be served all day. A German Brathaus will serve lunch (brats, franks, sauerkraut, potato salad, and homemade potato and cabbage soups) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An international cookie bazaar is a highlight of the Christkindl Markt each year. Shoppers will be able to select from 25 different kinds of cookies representing 20 coun-

tries. The market also features pottery, foodstuffs, artwork, “American Girl” doll clothes and other handcrafted gifts for sale.

Fair trade coffees, chocolates and olive oil as well as frozen homemade entrees (breakfast casseroles, lasagnas) that are helpful to have on hand for the holidays will be available for purchase as well.

Children are invited to decorate and take home their very own gingerbread house, the market’s free children’s activity.

Father Christmas will be there and so will the Princeton High School German Club selling German Advent calendars.

PRINCETON — In addition to being able to come into the Princeton Public Library to use its computers or access its free wireless connection, patrons can also check out one of the library’s five new Hotspot Wi-Fi devices to take home.

The borrower must be a library card holder, 18 or older, and in good standing with the library. First-time users must sign an acknowledgement form at the circulation desk prior to checkout. The device can only be checked out for seven days, and will not be renewable.

When checking out the Hotspot, the borrower will receive the device, a power cord, an instruction manual, and a carrying case. All items must be returned at the same time to the front desk during business hours in order to avoid a late fee. They cannot be returned using the drop box locations.

The overdue fine is $1 per day. Failure to return the Hotspot and accessories within four weeks after the original due date will result in a charge to the cardholder’s account of $100 with a $15 additional charge for the adapter. Hand the case and its contents directly to a library staff member. The user assumes responsibility for the cost of repair or replacement in the event that Wi-Fi Hotspot or its accessories are lost, stolen or damaged.

The Princeton Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. Users are prohibited from using Wi-Fi Hotspots in any way that violates federal, state, and municipal laws. Users are encouraged to follow safe Internet practices. Gov. Bruce Rauner signed into law House Bill 2893, which amended the Illinois Wildlife Code to repeal restrictions on the use of crossbows during archery hunting seasons in Illinois.

Illinois law previously allowed the use of crossbows for archery hunting by persons age 62 or older, and those persons with disabilities who qualified for a crossbow permit issued by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). In addition, the previous law allowed certain youth hunters to use crossbows, and allowed all archery hunters to use crossbows beginning the Monday after the second firearm deer season.

The 2017-18 season dates for archery deer and fall turkey archery hunting in Illinois are Oct. 1, through Jan. 14, 2018. Archery seasons will be closed Nov. 17-19 and Nov. 30-Dec. 3 during the firearm deer season in those counties open to firearm deer hunting.
