Candy Cane House returns to Perry Memorial The Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor its annual holiday bazaar, Candy Cane House, from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. A cookie sale will be held from 7 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 3. Both events will be held in the Medical Office Building Lobby at Perry Memorial Hospital.

In addition, Perry Memorial Hospital employees will be selling handcrafted items in the Main Lobby of the hospital. On Friday, the auxiliary will provide complimentary hot apple cider and cookies.

The Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary hosts a variety of book, bake and craft sales each year to raise money to buy equipment for the hospital. In addition to various sales, the Auxiliary operates the gift shop in the hospital’s Main Lobby. It’s time again to stuff the storefront Fifth annual coat drive has kicked off for Bureau County children in need

BY GOLDIE RAPP grapp@bcrnews.com PRINCETON — The storefront at Kramer’s Kitchen and Catering will be stuffed once again this year — with winter coats, mittens, gloves and hats for kids, that is.

Bureau County Food Pantry’s annual coat drive kicked off Oct. 20 and will go until the middle of November. People are asked to donate new or gently used schoolaged children’s items for wintertime. The items will serve children from kindergarten to eighth grade. It’s reminded that larger adult sizes are needed for the older children.

This is the coat drive’s fifth year. The event is sponsored by ServiceMaster Restoration by DSI and Kramer’s Kitchen.

Food Pantry Director Vanessa Hoffeditz said she’s grateful for her sponsors. They’ve helped contribute to the success of the drive each year, and Hoffeditz said she’s especially grateful for Kramers letting her use the storefront to collect the coats.

“If I didn’t have them, I wouldn’t have a place to store them,” she said.

This season’s drive will help to replenish the food pantry’s stock of winter coats. Currently, the food pantry has enough coats to begin giving out to families, but will need more to keep the supply full for next year.

Remaining dates for families who need to register for the distribution program are from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1, 2 and 3, at the Tri-County Opportunities Council office, 1019 N. Main St. in Princeton.

Coats will be distributed from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6; from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 7; from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8; and from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 9.

Coats are only for children in kindergarten to eighth grade. Parents or guardians must provide proof of 30 days of income and residency and must be a resident of Dover, Kasbeer, Malden, Manlius, New Bedford, Ohio, Princeton, Tampico, Tiskilwa or Van Orin.

‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ will be presented Nov. 3- 4 PRINCETON — The Princeton High School Theater Department will present its fall play, “The Diary of Anne Frank,” based upon Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl, at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Sally Skinner Auditorium.

PHS will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the publishing of Frank’s diary with the play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman. Frank was given the diary on her 13th birthday in June 1942, and her family went into hiding in July to escape Nazi persecution. The play gives us a very personal view of history through Anne’s eyes as she transforms from a child into an adult in the two years that she is confined in a secret annex along with

seven other people.

Fear, anxiety, laughter and hope will be portrayed on stage by seniors Haleigh Hall (Margo), Maggie Hoeffliger (Mrs. Van Daan), Zachary Quait-Ohlson (Mr. Frank) and Cameron Tieman (Mr. Van Daan); juniors Thressa Nelson (Miep), Kyle Degutis (Nazi Officer), Mia Akers (Mrs. Frank) and Brody Spencer (Nazi Officer); sophomores Mia Bowen (Anne), Beckett Conwell (Peter), Riley Lucas (Nazi Officer) and Eliza Atkinson (Nazi Officer); and freshmen Alex Kniss (Mr. Kraler) and Colin Kniss (Mr. Dussel).

Pletkovich’s new book, “Nuns, Nazis, and Notre Dame,” is a story of the Great Depression, World War II, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. The book examines the early life of Gerald A. O’Reilly, who was raised in Brooklyn during the 1920s and ’30s. His story takes

us from the alleys of Brooklyn to the hallways of Notre Dame during their championship years, to the innermost thoughts of an elite 10th Mountain Division soldier and the battle horrors of World War II in the Apennine Mountains. Gerald O’Reilly is the last surviving member of his company.

OGLESBY — The Thanksgiving Day 3-Mile Turkey Trot will start at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23. at Holy Family School in Oglesby. Entry fee is $21 prior to the race and $25 race day. A family special is offered for four in one family is $60 and each additional family member $10 (if turned in by Nov. 22).
