Avoiding the flu Bureau County Health Department Finance Director Hector Gomez receives his flu shot from Peggy Cartwright, RN. With flu season upon us, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends residents get flu shots to prevent the spread of influenza. Most at risk are children younger than 5, but especially children younger than 2 years old, adults 65 years of age and older, pregnant women, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, people who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities and people who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu.
