Welcome to autumn! This happy scarecrow at the Rick and Jody Jaquet property in rural LaMoille shows his joy at the start of his favorite time of the year, autumn, which officially began at 9:29 p.m. Monday. Pumpkin patches, apple cider donuts, football games and farmers harvesting their crops will again mark the fall season in the Illinois Valley area. But for many area residents, the fall season would not be complete without leisurely drives through the countryside and villages to view the brilliant reds and oranges of the turning autumn leaves. With the cooler temperatures experienced recently throughout the area, the peak of the fall leaf season could arrive a bit earlier this year. The Old Farmers Almanac is projecting the peak time for those fall colors in the Illinois Valley area will be Oct. 5-21 . BCR photo/ Goldie Currie
