Happy Birthday, U.S.A. Bureau/Putnam counties set fireworks celebrations Area residents have a variety of ways to show their patriotism and celebrate the Fourth of July holiday this weekend with community celebrations, family picnics and evening fireworks. The Fourth of July represents the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, and the birth of the United States of America as an independent country. As is tradition, Walnut will host its annual Hometown Celebration this weekend, with fireworks set for Sunday evening at the Blue Raider Park. Other area celebrations include the Princeton Jaycee’s annual fireworks show at Zearing Park on Friday; the annual fireworks show on Thursday at the baseball park in Mineral; and the Spring Valley fireworks celebration on Thursday at Hall High School. In Putnam County, fireworks are set for Friday night on the Illinois River in Hennepin.
