‘For it’s root, root, root for the home team ...’ Whether it’s high school baseball or softball, a rousing Little League game, a church league, a T-ball contest or even one of the area farm teams in Peoria or the Quad Cities, Bureau County — just like the rest of the nation — loves its ball games. Area baseball/softball enthusiasts won’t be longing long for the crack of the bat and the cheers from the crowd, as the season arrives with all the fanfare of area youth enjoying the game. On most every night and during every weekend, you’ll be able to find a game in Bureau County — whether it’s being played by the very, very young ... the older guys who still love the game ... and everyone in between. It’s in our blood ... our nation’s favorite pastime, so to speak. So take the family out to the ball game ... to the crowd. Buy them some peanuts and Crackerjacks ... You won’t care if you ever get back. And don’t forget to “root, root, root for the home team; if they don’t win it’s a shame. For it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out; at the old ball game!” Pictured, Princeton Tiger pitcher Garrett Allen moves in to cover home plate during a contest between the Tigers and the Ottawa Pirates. A wild pitch allowed the Ottawa runner to score a run and beat the throw. IVS photo/Mike Vaughn
