In like a lion, out like a lamb Princeton’s Ace Hardware’s Lindsay Pierson weighs some grass seed which will eventually help provide another lush and green lawn within the community. Now that March is coming to end we will have April showers to anticipate. Those, of course, will bring May flowers. With our sudden snowstorm this past week, another old gardening saying comes to mind: Spring snow is the poor man’s fertilizer. The thought behind this saying is when a late snow occurs, the nitrogen from the air is accumulated into the snow. As it gradually melts, the nitrogen is absorbed into the soil rather than washing away as it does during a rainstorm. This provides the growing plants with a tiny boost of natural fertilizer. As the weather has warmed and the days begin to grow longer, many have begun the process of planning for the next growing season. Stores everywhere have begun to prepare for their customers who will be continuing their various outdoor projects. Plants, seeds, pots, tools, mulch, decor and landscaping equipment will now be front and center as the weather continues its journey through spring. IVS photo/Dave Cook
