The big game Super Bowl 51 is set for Sunday, Feb. 5, when the New England Patriots will face the Atlanta Falcons at NRG Stadium in Houston. Lady Gaga is expected to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show, and Luke Bryan is scheduled to sing the national anthem. While the Super Bowl is the football game most sports enthusiasts wait for every year, those who enjoy the commercials during the big game wait to see what innovative spins major advertisers will put on their products. In 1967, a 30-second commercial costs about $40,000 during the first Super Bowl. Today, a 30-second spot is said to cost $5 million. But whether you are watching for the football or the commercials, you sure won’t be in the minority. In 2016, Super Bowl 50 was the third most watched broadcast in U.S. television history with 111.9 million viewers. And what will the winning team get? Besides bragging rights and quite a few pats on the back, the National Football League will pay for up to 150 Super Bowl rings, valued at $5,000 each. The NFL also gives the losing team 150 pieces of jewelry, which is not to exceed half the cost of the winners’ rings. The Pittsburgh Steelers have recorded the most Super Bowl wins — 6, and the Denver Broncos have the most losses — 5.
