he Village of Bartlett truly embraced its motto of Progress With Pride during 2019 by encouraging and supporting new businesses and investment throughout the community.

long-time businesses in the center, as well as the entire downtown, should soon see the benefits of a more attractive setting and additional foot traffic at Streets of Bartlett.

Brewster Creek Business Park continues to flourish and attract new businesses that diversify the local economy and provide employment opportunities for area residents. A new 400,000 square foot facility will be the first industrial project in the Cook County portion of the business park and will ultimately employ 200. Construction will take place throughout 2020.

The Village Board and I have supported much of this reinvestment into our community through the Bartlett Economic Development Assistance, or BEDA, program, which provides grants to businesses and developers who convert vacant or otherwise underutilized buildings into businesses that add jobs and sales tax revenues to Bartlett.

The program also supports long time business owners looking to enhance or improve their business.

Just outside of Brewster Creek, two 207,000 square foot speculative warehouse facilities will house future Bartlett businesses. Our community’s advantages for warehousing and manufacturing are so strong that many industrial developers have similarly constructed buildings prior to having a tenant, and they all filled very quickly.

On the south end of town, just east of IL Route 59 on Army Trail Road, an attractive new strip retail center called the Galleria of Bartlett has opened.

The Village is excited to be working with another developer who is transforming an older downtown shopping center with a high vacancy rate into a vibrant, renovated property with new businesses.

The owner is converting Bartlett Plaza into Streets of Bartlett and has had three new businesses open, with more coming soon. Besides the new business,

VILLAGE OF HANOVER PARK

T

he Village of Hanover Park is a dynamic community because of its residents and businesses. It is a community rich with culture and has a reputation as a friendly, quiet place to start your life and to raise a family where housing is affordable with quality schools. With 80 different nationalities and 30 languages spoken in Hanover Park, we are, as our tagline says, “America’s Global Village.” Hanover Park is known for responsible government, and I am proud to say that for the fourth consecutive year, the Village of Hanover Park will have a zero percent property tax increase and no increase to the water and sewer rate for the fifth consecutive year.

The Village is in the process of developing a new Village Center in the current Ontarioville Historic District. To start, overhead wires are being buried and streetscape improvements will be installed in Spring/Summer 2020. A new plaza and park are part of a well-designed public open space system around the Metra Station.

Hanover Park just added several new restaurants – yes, we truly are a Global Village! Check out the new Yummy Station for Asian cuisine, Neehee’s for Indian, and Briana’s Pancake House for an authentic American brunch! Over 50 local dining establishments are located in Hanover Park – check

the Village’s online Business Directory on our website at hpil.org.

At this year’s U.S. Conference of Mayors 87th Annual Meeting, Hanover Park was one of five cities in the United States to receive an Annual Climate Protection Award- Honorable Mention- in the small city category. Hanover Park won the award for its Solar Installation Permitting initiative.

The initiative took quick, bold steps to encourage solar energy growth and remove obstacles to solar development in the community. The program has leveraged more than $780,000 in solar energy investment, helping bring more clean energy and climate protection to Hanover Park. The award highlights that Hanover Park is “Open for Solar Business!”

chool District U-46 serves families in 11 communities across 90 square miles including Bartlett, Elgin, Hanover Park, South Elgin, Streamwood and Wayne and portions of Carol Stream, Hoffman Estates, St. Charles, Schaumburg, and West Chicago. The District is nestled in the Fox River Valley and includes communities within Cook, DuPage, and Kane counties.

Nearly 39,000 pre-school through 12th grade students attend the 57 district schools and programs. The vibrant student population lists 103 home languages, with more than half of the students from Hispanic families.

More than 30 percent of the students are English Learners, a demographic that paved the way for U-46 to develop its renowned dual language program in 2012.

The program allows many students to maintain their first language of Spanish while learning English and also offers an opportunity

for all students to become fluent in Spanish in addition to English and any other languages they may speak at home. With the Dual Language program now serving students in kindergarten through 10th grade, more than 11,000 students are developing bi-lingual and bi-literacy skills in U-46 classrooms. On any given day, children are speaking both English and Spanish as they discuss concepts in language arts, math, science, and more.

“This position provides me an opportunity to give back to the same community that has given me so much.”

From principals to bus drivers, many of staff members are former students who returned to their communities to serve and lead students within U-46.

PARKS AND RECREATION BARTLETT PARK DISTRICT The Bartlett Park District was established in 1964 and serves approximately 41,000 residents.

Embracing a mission statement of, “We create fun!” by providing the finest in Parks, Programs and Recreational Facilities for our Community. The BPD provides opportunities for participating in cultural activities, self-discovery, nature, fitness, athletics, and much more throughout the year.

Each park offers something slightly different; guests can game it up at Edgebrook Park’s playground and basketball court, or explore nature with Heritage Park’s fishing, biking trails, picnic area.

The Seafari Springs Aquatic Center creates watery fun with water slides and pools, while local garden plots encourage community members to plant fruits and vegetables.
