From the tall grass in our yards to the tall corn stalks in the fields, we are grateful for it all. We trust in the Creator to provide for His world and for His children. Beautiful summer days that fadel into wonderful evenings bring us ever closer to our God. This is His day.
This morning for church, I had the honor of greeting our church family as we gathered outside between the old church building and the parsonage. Dr. Vincent Marandino gave the message this morning, while Pastor Charlotte enjoyed her vacation time.
After church, Deb Ohlwine, Sandra Ford, Katie Pfundstein, and I, along with young Amelia, went to the new building to look at fabric samples and discuss decorating ideas. It feels good to look toward the future and imagine church services in our new building.
In the afternoon, I traveled to Sycamore to meet up with a group of my friends from the Northern Illinois Uni
“We had a lot of good comments on the food trucks,” Metzger said. “Everyone was practicing social distancing and the majority had masks. It went very well. They enjoyed having some kind of normalcy.”
Organizer Jane Koeller and the Sauerkraut Days committee were pleased with the turnout and the weather considering what was provided this year. There were some concerns prior to the event about

Weekly Events
Kids Café lunch has begun at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesdays and versity program. We haven’t seen each other since March, other than Zoom meetings and FaceTime.
We gathered at a shelter and made lunch. Carol and her family, Brooke, Robin, and Valerie planned a great afternoon. It turns out they were surprising me with an early birthday party. My birthday is next month but with our schedules and distance we won’t be able to get together.
We spent the afternoon visiting and singing karaoke songs. Brooke brought a homemade blueberry crumble pie made with fresh blueberries from Michigan. She had just returned from the state on a quick weekend trip. I will always treasure these dear friendships.
On Saturday afternoon, I went over to the Silver Ridge Golf Course in Oregon to celebrate my nephew, Garrett Bittinger’s graduation party. Garrett will be attending college this fall in Morrison. The guests had a wonderful time visiting over lunch and cake.
My brother, Ben and his wife, Jo, will have an empty home as both of their sons, Hayden and Garrett will be attending college this fall. This is just another reminder that time is moving way too quickly.
On Friday night, I finished the last homework assignment for the summer semester. In just a few weeks, I’ll start my last semester of classes before student teaching. It’s a scary and exciting time. people gathering.
Koeller said she received positive comments and no more than 50 people were in one place at one time.
“The committee, we tried to look at something that gave people something to do that was safe,” Koeller said. “We have to meet people’s needs and what they’re comfortable with. I think we did a good

As I drove home on Sunday, I thought about the many friends I met through the teacher program at NIU. Our shared experiences have brought us closer together. We encourage each other, give support when needed, and cheer each other when times get tough.
I have been very lucky when it comes to making new friends. Some of my greatest friendships started because we shared an experience at work, school, or with our children. I am truly blessed.
When we carry the love of God with us, we want to share it with those around us. It feels good to reach out to someone who shares our interests. For those that also love God, that friendship turns into family ties.
Everyone needs someone to share their celebrations and discouragements. It is especially nice when we find someone who listens and shows concern. When we know that’s the type of friend we need, we learn how to be that type of friend to others.
As we grow in Christ, we learn about the importance of His friendship. His love is unconditional. We can strive for that kind of love for others. There is no condition in which we won’t show God’s love because that’s how He loves us.
I hope you will join us as we meet for our outside service next Sunday. We will spend time with our church family in worship and prayer. We are glad for the moments together in friendship and love.
