Q — My cabinets and stair rails are suddenly very sticky. What is causing this? A — With summer’s heat and humidity upon us, the wood fibers are absorbing moisture and expanding. This is forcing the hand oils that have accumulated to the surface.
Q — I have tried to remove the stickiness with various products, but it keeps coming back, even though I have actually removed the color from some areas. A — Over the counter products are not capable of safely penetrating the finish and wood deeply enough to dissolve and remove the oils. And when homeowners apply too much force, they end up destroying the protective finish.

Q — What are my options to solve the problem? A — A professional service that has the products and experience to remove the oils, repair any worn areas, and apply new protective finish. This can be done without sanding or mess, and usually takes only a day.
