Old Settlers Day
It’s a short trail to Old Settlers Day, celebrated downtown in Checotah the second weekend in June. Area residents and visitors alike take a stroll back in time to enjoy a whole day of family fun from traditional games to races and more.
The Checotah Jaycees, as a reunion and a way to recognize the cowboy heritage of the city, started the first Old Settlers Day over 54 years ago.

Activities included a cow chip toss, turtle races, frog-jumping contests, balloon toss, pony rides, crafters, vendors, threelegged races, gunfight re-enactors and more.
Grab your boots and head to the Checotah Round Up Arena to rope in a great rodeo. You never know who you might run

in to. Checotah is known for quite a few famous cowboys still on the circuit and a few that have hung up their spurs, but not their hats.
Back in town at Old Settlers Day there’s lots of contests still going on for the bestdressed man, woman, girl, boy, oldest settler, farthest traveler and best beard.
The parade is always a crowd favorite with plenty of horses, bands and beauties. All cowgirls and cowboys are welcome to saddle up and join in the trail ride.
