SHARVARI SHANMUGAM

INTRODUCTION

my perspective towards architecture.

Master Thesis 2016-2017 One of the things which I enjoy the most in architecture is the relationship between scientific and humanistic themes. What affects me is that the space design should be harmonious between theoretical, social, functional and technical characteristics and,at the same time, relate respectfully to the context. In every project I worked on I have always tried to maintain a well balanced treatment of any of those aspects and to tackle the need of the built environment in the most realistic objective way. In addition, I think it is very relevant to notice how architecture works at many scales, from a small residential space to a community to a city. From spatial issues to structural details: this underlies the link between architecture, urbanism , building science and their mutual implementation. My experience not only includes university curricullum but I also tried to relate to professional world. I conclude that it is not only purely architectural design part which fascinates me, but also all the other knowledge that an architect needs to acquire in order to perform as one.

IInd Yr Master Thesis Glen Wash & Juan Carlos Dal’Asta Tongli, Jiangsu

Project Description Rural regeneration and revitalization follows many precedents and questions which need to be explored, answered, analyzed and need to be questioned again. The project is focusing on the current rural and urban scenario in China and the raising gap between rural and urban due to the development, migration and the opportunities which the urban centers provide. The proposed project is trying to bridge the gap between this problem and can be a possible alternative for future development in such areas.

Framework for analysis and design -The framework consists of several identified qualities which shape an environment. -These qualities become questions in itself. -The 3 different contexts were examined morphologically , on the basis of this strategy the 3 diff. contexts have been further designed.

Observatory tower needs to act as a landmark for the intervention that means it should be spotted easily. Hence CorTen steel cladding is a good choice as it is naturally reddish in color which occurs due to corrosion.

Grace

A woman’s grace not only lies in her body but also in every moment and gesture. The idea is to use the abstraction of a woman’s moments as installations which add softness to the space and make it more desirable.

Dami & Xiaomi a school for ASD kids, Beijing

Dami & Xiaomi Education is a flagship center in the city of Beijing. The school focuses on children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Core

The program should contain a reception area, a waiting area for parents, offices for staffs and advisors, a training room and all different classrooms. The rectangular-shaped (almost square) floorplan direct us to grouped functions and keep control of each type of visitors in the school.

The core becomes an interactive element in the space.

The main concept rotates around a stripedwood main core area. The design aims to provide a unique yet functional wooden core serving all the horizontal and vertical circulations and offering diagonal views for children to play safely.

Play area

All the rest of the education center remains simple white spaces giving all the attention to the central wooden space. Materiality and colors had been carefully selected to offer the most optimal conditions for these children to thrive.
