Ponderosa Annex A redesign
Spring 2022 School Individual Project Location: UBC campus, Vancouver Instructors: Mari Fujita, Travis Hanks
By redesigning Ponderosa Annex A into a small multi-media, multi-functional library that also houses a gallery, cafe, and reading room, BEACON is a project that unveils the effect of external forces and programs to building form. Focusing on circulation, program, and sense of safety, the four-storey complex aims to revitalize the originally quiet and secluded site by attracting visitors and student bodies to study and undergo various leisure activities within the building.
Exterior rendering along West Mall
The site is located on UBC Campus near West Mall, one major arterial within school grounds. Agronomy Road directly leads to a student residence called Place Vanier, which makes the site a perfect location to serve as a mid-point in between the two as a way to channel population.

02 safeguard Fall 2021 School Group Project Location: Charleson Park, False Creek, Vancouver Instructors: Arthur Leung, Pengfei Du
Based on the City of Vancouver’s Sea2City challenge in guiding urban development and ecological revitalization in the False Creek floodplain through different coastal adaptation strategies, project SAFEGUARD is a reimagination of the current water’s edge of False Creek in the aims of designing an interconnected sequence of open spaces and circulation networks for humans and nonhumans, while providing a layer of protection from heat waves and addressing to sea level rise for the next 300+ years. In collaboration with Makena Smith and Nathan Chew.
Part I: Shelter Other than combating heat wave, the shelter design was based on local information of sea level rise and tide levels in 2021 and 2100, as a means to display and reflect the impacts and possible scenarios of sea level change within the next 100 years.

Part III: Charleson Dog Park Shades and water facilities were added onto the existing Dog Park to provide a more habitable environment during possible heat waves.
03 static motion Spring 2022
School Individual Project Instructors: Mari Fujita, Travis Hanks
STATIC MOTION is a project that aims to distill information from a series of human action to inform the design of a small pavillion/ public installation located on pure imaginary lands. Through analyzing the action of tea whisking, a series of diagrams were made. Manipulating the digrams in length, width and height has ultimately lead to the development of the final static, yet visually churning, flowing form.
