SOUTHEAST MISSOURIAN The diverging diamond interchange at Center Junc≠ tion along U.S. 61 between Cape Girardeau and Jack≠ son could be complete and open to traffic by early Octo≠ ber, according to the project contractor. ì Thatí s the game plan, if we can keep the weather away,î Penzel Construction president Phil Penzel told

SOUTHEAST MISSOURIAN Tuesday marks the bi≠ centennial of Missouri becoming Americaí s 24th state, the Æ rst of the states entirely west of the Mis≠ sissippi River, to become part of the Union. The State Historical Society of Missouri has asked all Show Me State communities to remember the arrival of statehood by staging ice cream socials, a reminder of a vital part of the stateí s past. During the 1904 St. Lou≠ is Worldí s Fair, ice cream waffle cones began to be widely used during the seven≠ month event, some≠ times referred to as the Louisiana Purchase Expo≠ sition.
