00 PROFILE PAGE What means architecture for me? Architecture is one of the best ways to get people thinking about what could be better in the environment. In any context, architects are pushed to analyze all factors to reach the best solution. Besides that, creativity has the biggest role in solving these designing problems. That's the reason I'm inspired by the profession. One of the biggest wicked problems in the world at this moment is about the changing climate. I feel called to be involved in this topic. Through the knowledge, experiences and references I have accumulated, I see this calling as a personal goal for me as an architect. Besides that, my main goals are; Bringing people closer to each other, connecting communities Consciously dealing with use of materials, building processes and maintenance Thinking out of the box, use creativity by solving problems Working together and benefit of everyone's qualities Jean Nouvel once said: 'It is not possible to design always the same. How to be different in each different place – that is the most important work and duty of the architect to find out.' His way of designing inspires me a lot. In my personal designmethod I find it important to keep analysing every designchoise. Every project has his different context, goals and demands. But I think, as an architect, I need to solve every project with my same personal designmethod, that can be adapted to any situation. I believe it's important to characterize your own design process, that makes you as an architect exceptional from others. It influences your designprocess, it's related to each other.

What inspires me Jean Nouvel designed the 'One Central Park' in Sydney, Australia The project pushes the integration of landscape and tower architecture to a new level and offers Sidney a new architectural The strategic use of greenery is significant however; One Central Park was named the Best Tall Building – Worldwide 2014 approach these plants represent. This example shows the potential of sustainability and buildings on a large scale. That is
icon that symbolizes the city’s sustainable future. largely due to the innovative and sustainable why it inspires me.
What I can offer as an architect To get an idea of how I developed myself into the beginning professional I am today, here is an overview of my developments during the minor 'Architectural Design'.
Skills and knowlegde My personal designmethod that I have devolped during my education. How to create an individual style of drawing and expressing ideas. How to develop my drawing skills, both in 2D, isometrics and perspective. How to apply the six compositional principle to my designprocess. How start a design based on a specific guiding theme. How to adapt a design to changing factors. How to recognize and express characteristic details of a building How a strategy affects the design process and collaboration within a working group. My added value is that I realize how important it is to keep devolping and my knowledge. Standing still is going backwards. I am open to new expertise and innovation and realize how important the role of an architect is.

Project: Climate Adaptive Center Groningen, The Netherlands Location: January 2021 Date: Academie van Bouwkunst, Groningen Client:
Occasion of the project || WHY? In January 2021, there will be a Climate Adaption Week at Groningen. To give this year of action and activities a more permanent place in Groningen in the future, ideas have been formed about the development of a new Climate Adaptation Centre Groningen, somewhere in or around the city centre. A centre that brings together all the activities, initiatives and knowledge about climate adaptation and that focuses on experience (the people) and expertise (theexperts).
The requirements of the project || WHAT? The client has created a program of demands which the building had to meet. These demands were about the next subjects:
RECUDTION MAP
RECUDTION MAP
Buildings
Building site About the exact location, the relationship between the building and the site and the function of the site. Building in general About what general functions the building should have, minimum requirements of the functions and the appearance of the building. Material use About how the use of materials and technical aspects can make the building climate adaptive.
Cycling roads
Noorderplantsoen Univeristy Martini kerk Grote markt Forum Groningen Stadshuis Shopping zone
The challenge of the project || HOW?
Vismarkt The A-kerk
While designing the Climate Adaptive Center, there must be taught about many aspects. For example, the following questions came up on my mind directly; How can it get as much attention as possible from the residents and the visitors of the city? In which way can the building create awareness of the chancing climate? Which guiding theme fits the design process the best, to meet all the demands?

My designprocess For me, the perfect start of a designprocess, is to start with a research. During this research phase, all the usefull information will be collected at one place, this is the base of the process. This cause that there are new demands formed, that makes the designprocess after my own and unique working style. Analysing for the location Based on the conclusions of the analyses, as shown at the left, the location was chosen at the Noorderplantsoen. In my designprocess, it's very important to keep analyizing the choises I made. The conclusions of the analyses are saying what the point of improvement are. At this way, I can get a solution for the questions I asked my self at the start of this project. With this tecnique, I came to a floorplan that meets all the demands of the client and the demands that I made up for my self based on the first research phase. The floorplans at sections are shown at the next page.

The designmethod, based on the guiding theme From small to big, that's the processmethod that was used for this building. It is based on the guiding theme; Biomimetic design. Biomimetic refers to human-made processes, designs, devices, or systems that imitate nature. This guiding theme will suport the 5 domains of the designprocess. Important design choises By analyzing the site for sunlight, sightlines, traffic flow, views and important environmental factors, there were made diagrams about the classifications of the building. These conclusions formed the first sketches of the floorplans and sections.

Guiding theme Biomimicry is a method for creating solutions to human challenges by emulating design and ideas found in nature. It's the guiding theme of the designprocess. This page shows how it has effect on the domains 'material' and 'form'.

Effective use of sunlight is important to create an as pleasant as possible climate, without mechanical assistance. The diaphragms in the windows react to the amout of sunlight. This way the indoor climate can be controlled. Besides that, it gets peoples attentions and make them aware of the possibilities of sunlight use.

Transport at the Hereweg Project: Groningen, The Netherlands Location: October 2020 Date: Academie van Bouwkunst, Groningen Client:
Occasion of the project || WHY? This is an assignment from the minor Architectual Design. The goal of this exercise is to develop and practice my research skills. The content and structure of this module has been designed with the purpose of creating an active learning community and generating collective knowledge.
The requirements of the project || WHAT? The Hereweg, Groningen, was the given location for my assignment. I made a poster about the possible effects of personal transport and public transport. These two different effects are called as a ‘what if’ scenario.
The challenge of the project || HOW? This assignment was conducted through a research method that focuses on the 6 domains. The topic of the poster was based on personal preference and the interests of the topic. The topic of climate adaptation was kept in mind during the research. The challange was to create a professional poster with all the right information and images, to get the message clear.

Adapting Loskade Project: Groningen, The Netherlands Location: November, 2020 Date: Academie van Bouwkunst, Groningen Client:
Occasion of the project || WHY? To this point climate adaptation hasn’t been a theme in the development of the concept of Van Wijnen, but it will be in the future. Van Wijnen has initiated this assignment to receive new, fresh ideas on their concept, with De Loskade as the case to study. New ideas on improving the circular concept and ideas on making the houses and the neighbourhood climate adaptive. The client asks for an integral design proposal with conceptual ideas on both themes and on both levels (house and neighbourhood).
The requirements of the project || WHAT? Making a strategic and integrated design proposal with conceptual ideas on different scales to improve the next experimental circular and climate adaptive housing and neighbourhood for your client Van Wijnen, using De Loskade as starting point.
The challenge of the project || HOW? This project was conducted as a team effort. The challenge was to produce a professional result for the client in a short period of time (1 week). The focus was on the strategy of the method. Through an effective division of tasks and research we came to this result.
