Our approach is to create and deliver an integrated retirement community that our local neighbours can also use. Executive summary Within Spelthorne, there are 18,600 people aged over 65, and this figure will only grow over the coming years, yet housing for these people is woefully inadequate.

253 local people have registered support through the Council’s planning portal for Inspired Villages’ proposed Integrated Retirement Community in Spelthorne.

The main reasons for support are: the need for dedicated homes for older people, freeing up homes for local families and the provision of local community facilities.

Almost one in five supporters are currently looking to buy or rent in the area.

Over half of the supporters are homeowners.

Two-thirds of supporters are over the age of 45.

I support this scheme because it... provides much needed homes for older people.

In Spelthorne, 18,600 residents are aged over 65 with 2,900 aged over 85.

By 2040, this is predicted to grow to 24,300 aged over 65 and 3,900 residents aged 85 and over.

There is an unmet borough-wide requirement for at least 282 market tenure Extra Care dwellings. At present, there are no private market Extra Care units available across Spelthorne to accommodate established demand.
