The Mercy Moment How you’re helping people walk toward lasting freedom

Your Support Gave Lisa the Freedom to Begin Again When Lisa moved to BC to restore a relationship with her family, it didn’t turn out the way she hoped. Instead of reconciliation, she was rejected by those closest to her.

“I needed this counselling program because of the hurt I was feeling — betrayed and abandoned,” Lisa shares. “And that’s what led me to Mercy Canada.”

Because of your generosity, she didn’t have to face what came next alone.

Lisa’s story continued from cover At Mercy, Lisa found what she’d been looking for. “It wasn’t just talking to somebody — it was them giving you the tools and resources you needed to continue on with your life, grounded on a foundation of Christ.”

She’d spent years letting others define her worth. Through the support group, Lisa learned to set healthy boundaries and connect with Christ in a deeper way.

“I was a huge people pleaser, and I let people give me my own identity. Mercy Canada taught me to find my identity in Christ and who I was as a person and as a woman.”

Her kids have experienced her transformation too. “They’ve seen the change and growth in me, and they’re so proud of me. My daughter’s like, ‘I need to get counselling now so I’m not in my 40s getting counselling!’”

Because of your compassion, Lisa also discovered something unexpected — the gift of solitude with God.

“I was alone, but not lonely. I got to learn about myself and who God says I am, and I actually love myself for the first time.”

Today, Lisa’s thriving. She paints. She writes.

She starts her mornings with God. And as a Mercy graduate, she’s signed up for another group — because healing is a lifelong journey, and your faithful giving ensures it’s always within reach.

“I’m actually full of happiness and joy now — and peace that I’ve never had in my life. And I owe that to Mercy Canada.”

Where Healing Takes Root This spring Mercy launched a new set of Educational Support Groups — safe, Christ-centred spaces where men and women are finding freedom, building healthy boundaries, and receiving steady, guided care.

A Poem for Anyone Waiting

Written by a Mercy mom, for all of us While her daughter was in the program, Joy wrote this reflection. We’re sharing it because we think it will speak to you too.

“Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.”

Do not look right or left! That’s GO. BEGIN is different. It’s friendly. It breathes. It lets me think and gives me permission to take my time. BEGIN is brave. I can begin and still be waiting, inside myself.

What will you begin today as you wait and hope with expectation? If it is simply to get out of bed, do that. If it is to step outside and look up instead of down, do that. Breathe. In. Out. Try smiling.

Can I?

Perhaps begin to read a few scripture verses in the Psalms. Tomorrow read a few more. Maybe there is a new project to begin. Don’t think of musts or shoulds. That’s GO. Today, simply begin.

Tomorrow, begin the next step.

To wait seems paralyzing. GO implies hurry, at all costs. Get to the destination!

BEGIN and WAIT are compatible, and not paralyzing at all.

But how? How will I wait?

If I’m waiting, I can’t GO.
