SEPTEMBER
JUNIPER NETWORKS ATTRACTS INVESTORS, by the end of the year, Juniper raised $40M in a round that included four of the five largest telecommunications equipment manufacturers: Siemens, Nortel, Ericsson and 3Com.
JUNIPER SHIPS ITS FIRST PRODUCT, the M40 Internet backbone router (nicknamed Martini). The innovative packet forward engine (PFE) technology enabled the M40 to forward an unheard of 40 million packets per second.
JUNIPER PATENTS
FAST REROUTE, bringing greater reliability and resiliency to connectionoriented internet traffic.
THE M40 WINS BEST NEW PRODUCT RECOGNITION along with PC Magazine's UK 1999 Technology Innovation Award. At this point in time, the M40 was being used by 50 telecommunications companies, with agreements from Ericsson and Alcatel to distribute internationally.
APRIL
1999: JUNIPER GOES PUBLIC!
Juniper filed its IPO in April and debuted on the NASDAQ in June declaring "The NEW Network is Here!" The stock set a record in first-day trading in the tech sector by jumping 191% to a market cap of $4.9B, becoming a "Darling of Wall Street".
JUNIPER RELEASES
JUNOS OS, the network operating system based on FreeBSD, allowing for more stability and robust functionality. The M40 would run on Junos OS.
JUNIPER'S FIRST HQ MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA and the company would remain there until 2000. In 1999, Juniper established HQ's in the UK and Hong Kong, along with a subsidiary in Japan and offices in Korea.

Juniper opens its India Excellence Center in Bangalore.
JUNIPER ACQUIRED NETSCREEN TECHNOLOGIES for $4 billion. Netscreen, a leader in firewalls, brought advanced network security solutions into Juniper's portfolio.
JUNIPER ACQUIRES SEVERAL COMPANIES in an effort to expand its product portfolio, including Peribit Networks, Redline Networks, Kagoor Networks, and Acorn Packet Solutions, broadening its offerings in WAN optimization, application acceleration, and voice-over-IP.
THE MX SERIES ROUTERS MAKES THEIR DEBUT, setting a new benchmark for Ethernet servicesespecially focusing on high-performance environments - and launched Juniper into edge routing.
JUNIPER LAUNCHES THE EX SERIES ETHERNET SWITCHES, marking its entry into the switching market and expansion beyond routing and security.

Juniper forms a strategic partnership with NOKIA SIEMENS NETWORKS to offer an end-to-end networking solution to meet the needs of some 200 joint service provider customers worldwide.
JUNIPER RINGS THE OPENING BELL AT THE NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE.
On that same day, Juniper launches the New Network at an event at the NYSE, unveiling our new corporate brand and identity.

JUNIPER ACQUIRES ANKEENA NETWORKS to strengthen it's capabiltiies in media and content delivery solutions.
Juniper ends the decade with a NEW corporate identity and begins to NVISION a new state-of-the-art headquarters in Sunnyvale.
