THE WIZARD OF OZ

The Wizard of Oz (1939) a film based on the children’s book

by L. Frank Baum is a cherished musical favourite with Judy Garland taking the very famous lead role of Dorothy Gale and where the song ‘Over the Rainbow’, was ranked as the number one movie song of all time.

The programme and ticket sales are being donated to two charities this year, Age Concern and The Wessex Cardiac Trust.

THE ISLAND SAVOYARDS THE MIKADO The Island Savoyards are proud to stage this production on its 40th Anniversary Year.

It tells the tale of an all powerful emperor of Japan issuing an edict that any person found guilty of flirting ‘unless connubially linked’ must be beheaded. This law is not received with great enthusiasm in the town of Titipu where Nanki-Poo, the son of the emperor (but disguised) has found his way. He is fleeing from a Harrtidan called Katisha. Needless to say, much water flows under the bridge until at last happy solutions are found.

JENNY ECLAIR “OLD DOG NEW TRICKS” Having amused the nation in the Jungle and the fearlessly taken on bush tucker trials, the time has come for Jenny to get back on the road and do what she does best.

Jenny is fifty years old which in dog years would qualify for The Guinness Book of Records, having recently been dewormed and with her teeth newly bleached, she’ll be prancing around the regions, basically doing her comedy tricks for a ‘nice biscuit and maybe a glass of Chardonnay’.

His evergreen career has been acknowledged through numerous awards within both the music and entertainment industries, from a BAFTA Nomination as a TV entertainer to a Gold Award from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

When presented with the Gold Award from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters he was described as someone who, for half a century, has travelled the world with just a guitar and an immense collection of stories, gathered through his own experiences.

JOE LONGTHORNE IN CONCERT

This talented artist began his career over three decades ago with appearances on Junior Showtime, followed by a grounding on the tough Northern club circuit.

His big break came in 1981 when he was a finalist on London Weekend Television’s Search for a Star - this lead to appearances at the London Palladium with Bob Hope and The Talk of the Town. Joe’s repertoire of voices is endless and includes hundreds of the world’s top singers, however, he is perhaps best known for his impersonation of Shirley Bassey who has commented, “Joe can do me better than I can do myself”.

He starred at New York City’s Lincoln Centre in a universally acclaimed one man play ‘The Devil and Billy Markham’ written by Shel Silverstein especially for him. He has written songs that have been recorded by a wide variety of other artists including Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Southside Johnny, Crystal Gayle, BJ Thomas, Olivia NewtonJohn and Helen Reddy.

T. REXTASY 40 years ago, a record that inspired and kickstarted a new music and fashion culture soon to become termed glamrock was released. That record was ‘Get It On’, a song synonymous with the 1970’s legendary musician and icon, Marc Bolan of T.Rex.

T.REXTASY will be playing homage to Bolan’s biggest hits such as ‘Ride a White Swan’, ‘Jeepster’, ‘Hot Love’, ‘20th Century Boy’, ‘Telegram Sam’, ‘Metal Guru’, ‘I Love to Boogie’, ‘Children of the Revolution’, and of course ‘Get it On’.
