Wors hi p S ervices T rad itions At 8:00am and 11:00 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre ed om At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a nontraditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Youth Choir - Thank you to those who helped support our Youth Choir financially and with prayers. They are home and had a fantastic time.

Patriotic Celebration - Yearly, we honor our military with a wonderful Patriotic Celebration. Wear your uniform, bring a friend, and be prepared to be blessed! Sun, Jul 4th, we will honor all of our servicemen and women (active duty, veterans, and families) in all of our services. Our Chancel Choir & Orchestra will lead at the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 services. 11:07 will have a modern tribute, communion, and patriotic-themed sermon.

Oakwood Summer Camp is an opportunity for students to retreat from the routine, reset their daily habits, and renew their faith. Join Fusion Student Ministries Jul 12–16th, 2021, for a five-day summer camp experience at Blue Lake Camp in Andalusia, Alabama. Oakwood is for completed 6-12 grade students. Go Team! Jesus Loves the Little Children Team, it is summertime here in Shalimar! Lots of hot weather and sunshine, or at least that is what I thought happened at the beach in Florida, but I realize this week it is not always the case, but with summer - comes fun! Everyone on vacation and away to see family. Students home from school and having fun, and of course, children headed off to camps and clinics. Summer is always a wonderful time of year, even with our wonderful tourist friends here on the Emerald Coast! As I was thinking about it, the church is really no different than everyone else during the summer. We have fun camps we are gearing up for with our student and children ministries. Staff are planning vacations for some rest, relaxation, family time, and fun. We have some exciting days ahead of us, like our Patriotic Celebration, and of course, we have worship each Sunday morning with a fun series I am enjoying called “Faith over Fear.” It is definitely an exciting time in the life of our church! With all that is happening this summer, I want to make sure you stay up to date with one of my favorite parts about our church in the summer, Vacation Bible School. The Gospels might differ from time to time on a certain miracle or a parable. They might offer different versions of the same event or even additions from time to time. But one thing is clear to me that they all agree on, Jesus loves the little children. In Matthew, Mark, and Luke, you will find these words, “Then Jesus called for the children and
said to the disciples, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.’” Children have a very special place in the kingdom of God and in the heart of Jesus. At Shalimar, we know this, and we do our part to make sure that all of the children in our community have a place that they can come and experience the love of God! This year we had over 170 children join us for a week of VBS. We sang together and ate snacks. We heard Bible stories and learned new bible verses. We played games together and collected money to help those in need around the world! VBS is an entire week set aside to give our attention and our focus to the youngest of disciples and the newest of theologians. I was blessed to share the bible story with the preschoolers and the kindergarteners each day. They would come and sit. I would have the room decorated and a new costume on so that they might experience the story in a unique and fun way! Every day I would begin by asking the children to retell me the story I told them the day before. As a highlight of my week and summer, I want to share the stories learned as told by the kiddos! On the first day, we started with creation and the fall. And as you might remember, as one young theologian offered, “God, no Jesus, no I think it was God told them, “Do not eat the berries, no it was apples, no they were berries. Do not eat the berries or else.” Followed right after another shouted, “Yea, they did it and accidentally got in trouble. I don’t think they meant to get in trouble, though.” Then another shouted, “The snake fell from the tree onto them and had to run and hide.” Sounds good to me. Another person, the next day reminded us about Jesus calming the storm while the disciples were on the boat. One child offered, “Jesus and his friends were playing with the beach ball on the beach when a storm came, and so they jumped in a boat.” Another said, “Jesus was really tired from walking on water, so he just took a nap this time.” Then when I asked,

“Well, what did Jesus say to calm the water?” This young guy jumped up with all the confidence in the world and shouted that Jesus said, “Stormy storm... you are canceled!!!” Another favorite from the feeding of 5,000. One little girl reminded us all that, “Jesus prayed to that other guy in the sky, and like a gillion gillion gillion people were fed goldfish from that little boy in the back’s lunchbox!” We ended the week with the story of Jesus healing a blind man; the best response was the simplest response, “That man was blind, jumped in a pool, and now he can see!” Amen! I really do have the best job in the world. I am so grateful and thankful for Nicci Fahle, our Children’s Ministry Director, all the many volunteers who helped to make this week happen, and of course, all of you who prayed faithfully for the kingdom of God to be seen by these wonderful children. We could not have done it without each and every one of you, and we look forward to next year’s VBS being even better! To close, I thought we might reflect on that verse from the start. Jesus says, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them!” I think Jesus was pretty clear about his hope for the children to come, to sit and to listen, and to, in their way, experience His love and grace. My hope for Shalimar UMC is that we, too, might be a church that welcomes all children. We might become a place where the youngest of theologians and newest of believers might find their place in the kingdom of God. I hope you will join us in this effort to reach out to those in our community. Invite someone new to join us. Invite your next-door neighbor you see with a child in one arm and the car seat in the other, or that family you often see with the two young children because they need a place to worship and call their own! It’s what Jesus told us to do. So let us work together to share the love of God with all the little children! Complete in Him, Matt Langford

The young adult ministry at Shalimar UMC is tailored for those ages 18 -35. We hope to create a place where you feel welcomed, heard, and reenergized. In whatever stage of life you find yourself, we will have an opportunity for you to find community, be surrounded and supported by others, and walk through life with others. We will have small group Bible study and discussion, worship nights, fun activities and trips, as well as opportunities to make a difference in our community. We hope you will come and be a part. REVIVE: Join us on Monday nights from 7-8 at the Cross Corner Fellowship Hall for Bible study and discussion. We will go back to our Wesleyan roots and have a time to meet together, listen to one another, pray for each other, and walk through life together. COLLECTIVE: Every 2nd Monday night we will meet from 7-8 at Cross Corner for a time of worship. We will have music led by other young adults from our group and Pastor Matt will share a lesson with us. We will have food and activities on this night and provide an avenue to invite new friends to join us and create a more casual environment.

Our SUMC Missions team will host a community outreach "Back to School" event on Sun, Aug 1st, from 3-4:30pm outside in our FLC parking lots. While supplies last, backpacks and school supplies will be distributed in a "drive by fashion" to in-need elementary, middle, and high school students from our community. In addition, we will have an ice cream truck and other welcoming activities offered by several SUMC ministries for those attending, including our pastors sharing prayers with the families, and our church’s library providing children and youth books and Bibles to be taken home. Please share this information with any families you know who would benefit from extra help in preparing for the upcoming school year. If you want to help with this needed and special mission project to share God's blessings with others, please contact Mary Jane Robertson, (850) 499-6173 or mjr53@cox.net. There's a place for you! And another way to help is by donating any children/youth books or Bibles that are gently used or new. Please drop off books in the donation box just inside the back door of our church library.
We will never run out of this…….Ephesians 6:18 After we close Blessings for Children each Wednesday, we inventory what has gone out and what needs to be restocked to be ready for the children Jesus will send us the next week. It's with a prayer, held breath, and your generous support that we prepare for what we will need each week. There is always a chance we did not stock enough #6 diapers, or medium boy’s t-shirts, or 18-month-old onesies, or any of the items we share. However, we offer something at BFC each week that we know we will never run out of, the listening ear of our Heavenly Father and the praying warriors of our church. Ephesians 6:18 tells us to "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people." As we meet with each family, we always ask for their prayer requests. Even if we do not understand each other's languages, we can understand a request for prayer for someone's "familia/family." Our church's prayer team receives each request and has prayed for surgeries, finances, traveling mercies, pregnancies, jobs, health, restoration, grief, peace, food, safety. All requests we have made ourselves. So, while we may, on occasion, run out of a needed item, we will never run out of being able to share in praying for our families. Thanks to a Heavenly Father who always hears, a praying church family, and our SUMC prayer ministry team! If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider: • Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the
lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance. • Consider donating items we distribute to the children: diapers (size
4, 5, and 6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes,
toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at shalimar-umc.org/blessings-forchildren. You can donate items by stopping by the #10 2nd Street house behind the church any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm. •

Meet Sharon and Joe! Sharon and Joe live in Shalimar. When they saw Bread House's impact on the community, they brought a truckload of items to be shared with those in need. We receive donations every week from folks that live in the community. The Bread House has truly become a Community Outreach program to help those in need! Please stop by if you have not seen what all transpires here!

Christ Caring for People through People That’s the motto of Stephen Ministry. The Stephen Minister’s role is to bring God’s love into the lives of people who are going through a difficult time or experiencing a crisis. What do Stephen Minister’s do? They listen to you, care for you, support and encourage you, and pray with and for you. And in the midst of this confidential, one-to-one, caring relationship, God’s healing love comes pouring through.

Prayer Prayer Room The Prayer Room is always available for your use. The code to enter is 1423. After each Sunday morning service, someone will be present to pray with if you would like. They will also respect your wishes to pray alone. Prayer shawls are available for your use. The Prayer Box with cards is available for you to leave a request for either the pastors or Prayer Team. They will pray for you or a situation you would like lifted up. There have been great reports of use for this special place. Prayer Chain You can add someone to the Prayer Chain, share an answered prayer or receive prayer requests and praises through email. We are excited to announce the prayer list can now be accessed on the website or app. Please call the office for the password to this page.
