Wors hi p S ervices T rad itions At 8:00am and 11:00 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre ed om At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a nontraditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Win the Day Next Step- During our Win the Day sermon series, join Pastor Brad each Tuesday at 10am for a deeper dive into each week’s teaching on Win the Day. The teaching time will be available on livestream, our Facebook online campus, and in our livestream archives as each session airs. This next step is designed to help you be all God wants you to be as you seek the Lord and as God leads you to Win YOUR Day!

Youth Events - All youth in grades 6-12 are invited to attend The Superb Owl Party on Sun, Feb 13 at 5pm. Come enjoy a prominent football game, enjoy some great food, and have fellowship together!

Super Sub Sale – SUMC Youth Choir is currently selling tickets for their annual Super Sub Sale on Feb 13. Tickets are $5.00 per sub or $20.00 for a family meal pack of 4 with chips and drinks. All profits go towards our Summer Youth Choir Tour transportation expenses. Tips and donations are permitted and appreciated! See a member of the youth choir or stop by the church office to get your tickets.

Joyful Place – SUMC is excited to announce one of our newest additions to our congregational care offerings called Joyful Place. It is a respite ministry under the direction of Leigh J. Rice. The program will open in March on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am - 2pm in the fellowship hall of Cross Corner. Please consider partnering with Leigh as a volunteer, and if you are still uncertain, please offer prayers for Joyful Place and its launch.

Philip’s Focus What we Know Even When We Do Not Know One of the four initiatives that the Lord placed on my heart at the beginning of the year is to be more positive in the local church. After all, the reason we exist is to bring the good news of Jesus Christ. Bad news has supplanted the good news way too much in recent years. The world starves for good news, not bad news. So let’s do everything we can to make sure the good news of Jesus Christ is the center and pulse of everything we are through Shalimar United Methodist Church.
My good friend and colleague, Dr. Cory Smith, Senior Pastor of Auburn First United Methodist Church, recently posted about what we know in the United Methodist Church. So I asked Cory if I could share his positive word with you. “Recently, I was asked, “What is your opinion? Which direction do you think the United Methodist Church might be taking in the years to come?” I shared the truth, “I don’t know…And…here is what I do know.” I know that I was born into a United Methodist context and culture. My Dad is a United Methodist Pastor. He retired a few years ago from a part-time appointment where he served in the same UMC appointment for 38 years. It may be some kind of record! I know that this United Methodist Church is the church that has formed me, taught me, included me, and connected me to ministries in the inner cities of
Mobile, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia, and lots of wonderful rural places in between. I know that this is the church that has taken me to places such as Kenya, Cuba, and Costa Rica, opening my eyes to the way the United Methodist Church is strongly connected globally in transforming lives in various ways and in cultures wonderfully diverse and far different than my own. I know that this is the church that, when a disaster strikes, especially hurricanes and tornadoes where I live, this is the church that already has a tried-and-true built-in network to respond. I know that this is the church that when Holy Communion is celebrated, everyone is invited, everyone included and welcomed to the table....giving God’s grace room to work in transforming everyone into the image of Jesus Christ. I know that I love the United Methodist Church, imperfections, and all. I love our history and heritage. I also give thanks for our future as we move forward, trusting in God’s mercy and grace. So as questions are raised about the United Methodist Church, the best answer that I know to give is my own personal reflection. This is the church that has formed me, shaped me, and helped me discover who I am as a follower of Jesus Christ.” Thank you, Cory, for reminding us we have much we do know in times of uncertainty. I know that I have many reasons to give thanks to churches like Shalimar United Methodist Church. We do not know everything about the future, but we do know God is in charge. God is always reshaping His church so that more fruitful ministry can happen. We are entering a new church era. I know I am excited about what God is up to in the future, and I hope you are too! Guidebook for 2022 Guide Book & Directory Advertising Opportunity We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for the church. This book will contain everything pertinent to our church: the various ministries, organizations, committees, activities, functions and events plus a complete directory of all members. This book is being provided and direct-mailed to each family at no cost to our church, and it is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Church Office. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It “will pay” to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory.

Blessings for Children 2023 is calling already! Will you answer? When we opened the doors of Blessings for Children in January 2019, our mission was “to meet the needs of children in our community while encouraging and developing Christ-centered and church-involved relationships with their families.” Our mission remains the same, but to keep that mission-focused and fresh, our ministry is looking for someone to lead us onward starting in 2023. This ministry is thriving and growing. It meets our community’s needs with a committed and gifted group of volunteers and a church family that encourages our mission with their faithful and generous support. But now, it is time for someone else to step into the oversight role. Every successful ministry needs a point person, and with your gifts and skills, your passion and enthusiasm, and your guidance and ideas, Blessings for Children can continue to do the God-directed work that is needed. Is God nudging you to do something new, something different for Him and His children and yourself? If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider: Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. 4, 5, and 6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lice treatment kits, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at

Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed!

Prayer Prayer Room The Prayer Room is always available for your use. The code to enter is 1423. After each Sunday morning service, someone will be present to pray with if you would like. They will also respect your wishes to pray alone. Prayer shawls are available for your use. The Prayer Box with cards is available for you to leave a request for either the pastors or Prayer Team. They will pray for you or a situation you would like lifted up. There have been great reports of use for this special place. Prayer Chain You can add someone to the Prayer Chain, share an answered prayer or receive prayer requests and praises through email. We are excited to announce the prayer list can now be accessed on the website or app. Please call the office for the password to this page.
