Our Mission We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world. We TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy-Scripture. We SEND our members and missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal life.
Traditions: 8AM & 11AM Meet us in the Sanctuary as we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith. Such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and Traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11AM service. Connect: 9:30AM Join us in the Sanctuary as we engage in a fourfold services of gathering, praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations of prayer, and sending forth. Worship is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.

Philip’s Focus “And Into the Next Year of Ministry”

In doing some quick math this week, I realized I began the journey of being a United Methodist Pastor forty-seven years ago this month. Wow! How did that happen? How have so many years passed? In some ways it seems like yesterday, and, other ways, many lifetimes ago. It was all the way back on July 10, 1975, I said “yes” to God’s call into ministry around midnight. As it was around midnight, I am not sure whether my profession of calling happened on July 10 or July 11. What I do know is that a year of searching ended with the “peace that passes understanding that night.” Amazingly, the peace of forty-seven years ago was constant even though I had no idea what was going to happen next. The peace I had in trusting God then is possible still today. Well…fast forward forty-seven years and much has changed since 1975. The world has changed. The Church has been continually challenged. We face as many uncertainties and unknowns as ever. Ministry continues to have to adapt and change. Yet… during it all…there is some exceptionally good news! God has not changed. God’s PEACE has not changed. His peace is available to us all today. His peace passes understanding. (Philippians 4:7) HOPE in God has not changed. God holds the future, and this includes His Church. This hope never disappoints. (Romans 5:5) We can meet the uncertainty of today’s times with the TRUTH of God.
His truth does not change with our circumstances. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8). God’s LOVE is still the greatest force in the world. Greater than evil and hatred alike. (1 Corinthians 13:13) Love is the greatest! When we get out of kilter remember love of God and neighbor are the greatest! We walk by FAITH each day not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7) We do not have to know what is going to happen next to have peace. By God’s design we only see in part now. (I Corinthians 13:12) We walk by faith into the unknown with God’s certainty! Into the next year, is a wonderful time to live into God’s peace, hope, truth, love, and to walk in faith. In forty- seven years, I have found these moments of trusting God with the future have brought the most peace! I invite you to join with me into the next year as we seek God daily and live into His peace! Shalom, Philip

Stay Up To Date
Kidz Summer Camp is an opportunity for children to grow in their relationship with God through experiencing Bible stories and faith sharing, as well as connect with their church friends during activities such as swimming, canoeing, having s’mores, hiking, games and more. Registration is open on our website, under ‘Children.’ Last day to register is July 18th and the camp fee is $345. (Options are available if financial assistance is needed.)
We are offering a Financial Peace University from Ramsey Solutions. This is a 9-week course that will begin Wednesday, July 13th. They will meet following fellowship dinner from 6-7:30PM upstairs in the FLC. We would encourage all who have yet to be a part of this class to reach out to the church office for more information. The course fee is $75.

Blessings for Children

You may remember that Blessings for Children has been looking for someone to take over leadership in 2023. So it is with great relief and joy to say that prayers have been answered and God’s timing is perfect with Rendi Bonner responding “yes” to God’s call to lead this mission outreach!! Rendi brings to our ministry a mission mindset, energy and enthusiasm, new ideas and creative plans. She has a formidable skill and gift set to go along with her heart for children and meeting their needs, and has hit the ground running. Rendi will be assuming the leadership role in August. Together, with the help of an incredible group of dedicated volunteers, God’s guidance and a supportive and generous church family, we have over the last 4 years created and grown this Shalimar UMC mission outreach into an impactful and meaningful presence in our community. Our mission from the start has been “to meet the needs of children in our community while encouraging and developing Christ-centered and and church-involved relationships with their families.” Your support through prayers, donations, and your willingness to volunteer have allowed us to reach a constantly growing number of families and children, providing clothing, personal care items, Bibles/Bible stories, and school supplies to those who visit our ministry. God has affirmed that with Rendi and our amazing volunteers this mission will continue, and under her leadership will not only continue, but grow and expand in new and exciting ways to bless others. In closing it has been a gift to serve with Blessings for Children these past 4 years and now a joy to know we can continue to serve our community’s children in the years ahead. The SUMC family has grown Blessings for Children together, and together we will continue to pray that God will be glorified in this ministry’s new and needed season, and as we have always said …..that our blessings will be turned into blessings for others. Thank you, church family, for your always gracious, generous help to this ministry. Like all of us who serve this mission, Rendi will be overwhelmed by your encouraging support and now we will look forward to serving with her as she helps move Blessing for Children forward! Joyful Place New Volunteer Training
Some people volunteer to make new friends; others give back becasue it feels good or because they want to make a difference. There are many reasons people volunteer, beyond the simple goodness of their hearts. One of our volunteers shared recently that her doctor noticed a positive change in her condition. She attributes her improvement to volunteering at Joyful Place. She is more active and social than she has been in years. Laughter really is GOOD MEDICINE! Please consider coming to our upcoming volunteer training. Attending doesn’t commit you to volunteering, but you just may reakize spending time with us is just what you need.
