STARRY STARRY NIGHT- Starry Starry Night will be held on June 3, 2022 at 6pm, doors open at 5:30pm. It is a gala event that will host both a silent and live auction along with dinner. It’s not too late to get tickets! We will be selling them in the FLC lobby during the Fellowship times. PENTECOST CELEBRATION & NEW MEMBER APPRECIATION- During the Fellowship time on June 5th we will celebrate Pentecost and the closing of our 50 Great Days series. We will also honor our new members who joined during this time.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL- Registration is open for our 2022 Shalimar UMC Vacation Bible School. The theme this year is “Food Truck Party!” Join us as we get on a roll with God and learn more about his love in this year’s amazing VBS! Takes place from 9amnoon the week of June 6th.

PHILIP’S FOCUS 50 Day Challenge Takes Final Turn We began a challenge of 50 Days on Easter Sunday. Our goal was to reach 50 new members by Pentecost. As of May 26, we are at day 40 of the journey. As of the 40 day mark, we have added exactly 41 new members. This number does not include the additional children who are pre-confirmation age. How exciting it is to see our congregation have a “jump start” of growth again. Also, in addition to the new members, God has renewed a spirit of growth throughout Shalimar UMC in these Great 50 days! God has blessed our congregation in working together and chase a God sized dream! The attitude change in our congregation is noticeable! What a difference these days have made! In addition, to whatever growth is gained in the Great 50 Days will be a stronger momentum going forward! This momentum is huge. In my forty plus years as a pastor, I have noticed one area of growth often leads to growth in other areas. God blesses our stepping out in faith in ways that are seen and unforeseen. Our congregation is also to be commended for this turn of events. In our 50 days, more people have been intentional about inviting others to worship. Many of you have invited and encouraged others to join during this time. There are so many of you that have offered prayers and encouragement! Again, growth is very contagious. Who would have thought on Easter Sunday this goal 40 days later would be so in reach! Thanks be to God! As we begin the final 10 days of this challenge, I wanted to invite our worshippers who are not members yet, to make Shalimar UMC your church home. If you are considering joining, please let one of the pastors know. We would love to include you as a part of those who joined during the Great 50 Days.
Next Sunday, June 5, is Pentecost Sunday. We are going to have a time of celebration for all God has done during the Great 50 Days. Pentecost Sunday, of course is already a very special Sunday. It is a time to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church! As we culminate the Great 50 Days, what a day of celebration June 5 will be! Let me add…Along with our church striving to reach 50 new members, other United Methodist Churches in our conference have also participated in the Great 50 Days. By participating in the 50 Day Challenge we have strengthened our connection with other United Methodist Churches. Some churches that may have felt 50 new members was not realistic for them have found other ways to step out with God. In the coming weeks, I will update how God has worked in other churches, as well as Shalimar. Would it not be great to end our 50 Day challenge with some surprises in the last 10 days? As we began the journey 40 days ago, we trust God is at work the final days! Let us keep inviting our community to be a part of Shalimar UMC. A Request for Prayer In the upcoming months, it will be exciting to be a part of Shalimar UMC. Look in the Beacon and listen to the announcements on Sunday mornings to see what events are occurring. However, even doing that will not always give you the whole rundown because there is so much going on that the entire list cannot be covered in the space available in the Beacon and time available on Sunday mornings. This all leads me to the focus of this article. There is a great need for all of us to pray for Shalimar UMC, especially during these times. 50 churches in our conference have met and decided to bring in 50 new members each during the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost. That means it will take a lot of bold prayers for this to be accomplished. I am asking that everyone pray for SUMC to reach our goal. In addition to prayers for our 50 new members, I ask that 100 people come alongside the Prayer Team to pray for SUMC (Pastors, events, and programs of the church). From time to time, I will send special prayer emphases by email for special prayers. If you would like to join us in this prayer effort, please email me at jamesbrantley3@cox.net. I will add you to the group. God has a plan for us. We need to pray to get in tune with what His plan is. There is no limit to what can be accomplished if we get aligned with His Vision. Read Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! PRAYER Prayer Room The Prayer Room is always available for your use. The code to enter is 1423. After each Sunday morning service, someone will be present to pray with, if you would like. They will also respect your wishes to pray alone. Prayer shawls are available for your use. The Prayer Box with cards is available for you to leave a request for either the Pastors or Prayer Team. They will pray for you or a situation you would like lifted up. There have been great reports of use for this special place.
Prayer Chain You can add someone to the Prayer Chain, share an answered prayer or receive prayer requests and praises through email. Dear Family, At Food Truck Party VBS, your students will enjoy an interactive, energizing, Bible-based good time as they get on a roll with God. They will become Chefs and discover how we can turn to God in prayer every day to meet our needs and how we can join God in providing for the needs of others. After a high-energy Opening Assembly time, the Chefs make their way to the Bible Study Station. Interactive Bible lessons reveal Daily Specials to equip your Chefs for an active life with God. Your Chefs will also discover our Main Course (Bible memory verse), which will remain with them in their faith long after VBS. The students will expand on what they’ve discovered by making their own art projects at the Craft Station, singing new songs at the Music Station, exploring the wonders of God’s creation at the Science Station, playing games at the Recreation Station, and enjoying tasty traits at the Snack Station. Along the way, the Chefs will hear about our mission project as their response to a call for action! Join us as we get on a roll with God at the Food Truck Party! Blessings for Children Praise God for You Who Pack our Lunch
I love the Upper Room devotional, and my Bible is stuffed with devotions pulled from it over the years that have spoken to me - spirit, body, and soul. One in particular, from January 8, 2022, by Inger Logelin, where she lifted up the story of the feeding of the multitudes in a way that shouted to me about the ministries and missions our church undertakes, and in particular our Blessings for Children ministry. Ms. Logelin said she “wondered about the one who prepared the boy’s lunch.” Yes, Ms. Logelin! Those behind the scenes who do what they do (pray, give, make, take, write, donate, call) so that those who share “in the field” will have what is needed. The boy had a lunch prepared by someone at home that, in the hands of Jesus, would be used in a miracle! Every Wednesday, when we open our Blessings for Children doors, we serve the “lunch” that so many gracious giving others have prepared. The diapers, toothbrushes, school supplies, t-shirts, and all we can provide to those in need who God sends has been prepared behind the scenes by someone who has a heart for others and is probably not sure how their gift will be used, but believes it is needed and is given in love. God does the rest! Praise God for all those “behind the scenes!” If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider: Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance.
- Consider donating these items: diapers (sizes 4-6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lice treatment kits, and toilet paper.
