HEALTHY FOR THE HOLIDAYS: FIVE TIPS This month is all about staying healthy during the holidays. Let’s face it; this is not always an easy task with all of the holiday parties and celebrations.

We have many classes at Mazopiya during December to help you stay on track during this holiday season.

Here are some tips to get you started: 1.

Take time to move. Exercise will not only help you relieve stress during the holidays, but it helps to keep extra pounds off, too.

2.

Don’t over-indulge. It’s always a good idea to eat a light, healthy snack before going to a holiday party, especially one with a good source of protein, fiber and fat. This will help you overcome the temptations of special sweets.

3. Watch the drinks. Calories from both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks can add up quickly. Instead, choose a spritzer of sparkling water with a splash of cranberry juice.

4. Think color! Eat the rainbow by adding colorful fruits and veggies to your plate. Try starting your meal with some fresh veggies or a colorful salad.

5. No deprivation. Have just a taste of the things you want, but don’t deprive yourself. Just keep the not-so-good foods to a minimum. Remember, the holidays should be enjoyable and not a time to stress over a strict and rigid diet!

DIY CORNER LAVENDER ROSE BATH SOAK

Here’s a little extra help with relaxing, just in time for the busy holiday season. Everything you need for homemade bath, cleaning and wellness products is at Mazopiya’s DIY corner in the bulk section!

Ingredients 2 cups Epsom salts 10 drops of rose essential oil 15 drops of lavender essential oil 3 drops of orange essential oil Handful of dried rose petals Handful of lavender flowers Instructions Place Epsom salts in a bowl. Add oils and mix until oils are well-distributed throughout the salts. Stir in your lavender flowers and Rose petals and mix until combined. Store in a glass jar. For a luxurious bath, add 2-3 tablespoons of the mixture to your tub.

RECIPE GLUTEN-FREE CRANBERRY CHOCOLATE SCONES Ingredients 2 cups blanched almond flour ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons arrowroot ½ teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons baking powder 2 tablespoons maple syrup ¼ cup melted coconut oil 1 egg

Instructions ½ cup dried cranberries 1½ tablespoons cacao nibs ¼ cup mini chocolate chips 1 teaspoon vanilla ¼ cup pecans Zest of 1 oranage

Combine flour, arrowroot, salt, and baking powder, and set aside. In a small bowl, combine syrup, vanilla, coconut oil, and egg. Whisk until blended. Add wet to dry ingredients and mix until combined.

Fold in cranberries, chips, zest and nibs.

Form dough into a ball and place on a piece of parchment paper. Slightly flatten and place on baking sheet. Cut into 8 wedges. Bake at 3500 F for 20 minutes.
