“He’s of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger....he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts.” –Henry V, Act III, sc. vii

The word courage derives from the French word for heart. If there is a play that celebrates courage and the heart, it is Henry V. Written around 1599, Henry V tells the story of King Henry’s campaigns in France during the Hundred Years’ War. His rousing speeches to his men as they overcome impossible odds are among the most famous in Shakespeare. “Once more unto the breach,” as well as the Saint Crispin’s Day speech, would invigorate even the most daunted and depressed soldier. In Elizabethan England, nutmeg and cinnamon were among some of the more commonly used spices, and cloves were viewed as a pain-reliever. Coffee had yet to reach the British shores, but SoCo has joined two time-periods together with Courage: a bold, bracing flavor that truly is pure air and fire – and never dull.
